I went to the dr today for a regular check up! I am 21 weeks now and I have been having some swelling in my left foot, which I thought was weird that it was only in one foot. My dr said that it is very common, but she wants to do a leg ultrasound on Wednesday just to be sure that it is not a blood clot. My knee on my left leg has been swelling, too, but I have tendonitis (sp?) in both knees and that happens occasionally, so I didn’t think anything of it! I am now really worried! I had a similar scare when I was pregnant with Brodie. I know that it is very treatable if I do have a clot, but I am still kind of freaked! Did any of you have this happen in any of your pregnancies? Thanks, Ladies!

What can I do next?

It sounds like your doctor is being careful and that is good. If he was telling you that it is no big deal I would be more concerned. They have lots of ways to deal with blood clots if that is what it is, but it probably is just usual swelling.

I would go see a chiropracter who deals with pregnancy. They may be able to make a small adjustment to easy the swelling.

I had this with my second pregnancy towards the end of the eighth month and all through my third pregnancy. First it was only on my right side, and later it was on both. I wore Ted stockings to help with circulation and it helped a bit. My midwife said it was common with subsequent pregnancies, and I should see a chiropractor who specialized in pregnant and post-partum women.

During my third pregnancy I also got numbness radiating from my elbow down to my pinky finger (along the ulna) but only on the one side. I had two vertebrae out of place in my lumbar region (lower back) and one in my cervical (neck area). One appointment was all it took and I felt better than ever (though it was suggested I continue, I didn't have insurance to cover it at the time).

I would talk to your doctor, and if he/she feels it could be something besides a blood clot, maybe schedule an appointment. I can't tell you how great I felt, not just physically, but for the piece of mind. Don't be afraid to ask questions and shoot out other ideas. It's better to ask than not to know. Best wishes, and congrats on the new baby! :)

I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. I'm sure it's just regular swelling but it's better to be safe than sorry! I had severe swelling with my first pregnancy and it started on just one side too. It looked really bad and funny but everything was fine :)
