Hitting the Milestones

My daughter is 3 months old and was only 4lbs at birth, now she is just under 10lbs. Does anyone else have a premie and when did they hit thier milestones such as holding things in thier hands and holding themselves up when on thier tummy? When I try to put something in my daughters hand she can't hold it,like her hand is too small. And when I put a teething ring in her mouth she couldnt bite that either, like her mouth is still too small. She seems to be hitting all of her developmental milestones but not the physical ones. The dr says...

My 14 month daughter does't care about eatting solid food. When I bring food to feed her, she never be happy. I have to play her favorite DVD, she will opens her mouth sometime. Sometimes she keeps food in her mouth but not swallow it, or sometimes spits it out. If I put her in highchair, it will be worse. The only time I feel her hungry is at night. Because I am still breastfeeding, she still eats several times at night. I read alot about let her be hungry, she will eat when she is hungry. But at night she just cry to eat. Sometimes I...

Is It Telling Lies or Make Believe?

My eight year old daughter is still into fairytales. She still believes in the tooth fairy and since Christ's Day is approaching, her Santa questions are on the rise. I am getting to the point I don't want to keep telling her make believe stories or lies to keep her in awe. I admit that the questions are pretty unique and interesting but I have to reply back with something quick and meaningful for her. The latest question she's asked, "Depending on where we spend Christmas, how will Santa come into our house or dad's house if neither house...

How Do I Teach Independence?

Hi ladies! I need to know how to teach my almost 4 year old to be independent when doing class work. For example, when we try to get him to write his name he says "I need your help" or "I don't know how". Basically, the only way to get him to write his name is to sit with him and praise every single stroke. UGH! Now he is in preschool and he wants the teachers to "help" him with EVERYTHING. I do not understand how we got here. **I suppose I need to give a little more information. My son started potty training at 27 months (very...

Language Skills for a 2 Year Old

My daughter is almost two years old and I am worried about her language skills. When other people are around her they do not understand what she is saying and I have to constantly tell them which is frustrating. To me it is pretty clear (most of the time)but obviously not to others. I know I shouldn't compare her to other children but when we take her to play areas or story time it seems that other children speak pretty well. When I ask how old they are their mothers say 2. Well that doesn't help me, that could mean 24 months or 34 months....

My son is 3 years old. He will be 4 in March. He seems to have trouble recognizing, remembering colors. He is able to identify black and white. Other colors though, its iffy. Sometimes he identifies the colors correctly, and other times not even close. I worry and wonder how I can help him to correctly identify his colors. How old were other children when they began to be able to correctly identify colors? He does a wonderul job identifying is upper case letter and is still learning to identify numbers. Switching Letters and Numbers

Ladies, In an effort to keep up with my DS's matriculation into 3rd grade, his teachers sent home reading comp and math homework folders for the summer. He is almost 8, reads at a 5th grade level and handles math at a 6th grade level. His big challenges have been social and emotional. His most previous (and may I say wonderful) teachers wanted to make sure when he is evaluated in September that he score well. Their concern is that if he scores lower than his capability, they will assign him to a group that doesn't challenge him and...

How Do You Teach a Child to Ride a Bike?

The title says it all, but here are the details... My six and a half year old daughter needs (in my opinion) to learn how to ride her bike. We bike a LOT as a family, and she's outgrown the bike trailer, and will outgrow the "ride behind bike" (don't know the name of it...the little extra bike frame that attaches to the back of a bike) within a year or two. We took the training wheels off her bike at the beginning of summer, and have made a few attempts, but I'm not really sure how to do it. I see all these three and four year...

I just read a question and answer post about a left handed child. Here's my problem, my son will be 4 in October and he doesn't seem to have a strong preference to either his left or his right hand. I usually just put a crayon or spoon down perpendicular to his body, so as not to influence his choice at all and I would say he has a Slight preference to his right hand and seems to have a little better control with it, but not enough that it is a clear choice... Should I encourage the right hand at this point. Dad is a lefty and I am a...

Helping My Little Guy to Crawl

I know that all kids develop at different paces as well as the way that kids these days skip crawling but I would like to try to help my 9 month old get as much help from Mommy as possible. I have a hard time keeping him on his belly. The second I put him on his belly he rolls right over to his back. He's been doing this ever since he learned to roll. He figures out how to get to places by just rolling there, not crawling or creeping. So, I try to keep his interest on his belly but it doesn't seem to work very well. My pediatrician...
