Hi S.. I have 4 year old twin boys, and one of which failed the hearing test in the right ear in the NICU at birth. He was givin a hearing aid at 6months old! He has very narrow canels and his ear drums are diformed a little but otherwise work fine-if the sound could get to them. Since the aid was working so well they also gave us an aid in the left one even though he really didn't need it in that one. He is doing great and through the school receives speech as well as hearing services. His brother also receives speech as they seem to pattern their speech after eachother. Just wanted to reach out to you even though your post is kind of old...lol. Hope all is well!

Hi S.!
I also have a daughter who is "moderately" hearing impaired. I have NEVER met anyone with a child who has a similar issue. As a newborn, she failed the screening in the hospital (the ABR?), but wasn't able to get aids till she was 4 due to inconsistent tests (many, many tests!).
Anyway, I'd love to hear other stories, compare notes, etc.

Hi S., I have 2 y/o boy who has moderate/severe hearing loss in both ears. He passed his new born hearing screen but never responded appropriately as an infant, etc. I had him screened when he was 1 y/o and he has been wearing bilateral hearing aids for almost a year now.

Hi,

I just recently found out my 7 yr old has hearing lost in his left ear. After he failed his hearing test at school. They sent him to a specialist. Then they did a ctscan which came back fine. He has what they call a nerver loss in that ear. So he will never regain hearing and nothing can cure it. Doctor said that we would need to get a hearing aid in time. But at his age it would be more of a pain to get it set right etc.
I am here if you want to talk but I am on the new side of this. We can learn together :)

Hi, I have a 3 year old son, that was born with a prfound hearing loss in both ears. He failed his newborn hearing test. At the age of 1 he received his first cochlear implant and at 2years received his second one. He is now hearing and speaking like any other 3year old. We tried hearing aids but they did not benefit him at all.
