Midwives at CDH or Edwards?

I know CDH does not have any midwives, nor does Edwards as I've heard. Hinsdale and Rush-Copley are the ones I know of as well that have mid-wives. I have to second that the midwives at Rush-Copley (Karen & Noreen) are EXCELLENT. The doctor group back up is also EXCELLENT. My first born was with them. I had Karen and Noreen up until the birth, as my son was born early and c-sectioned because he was breech, so at the birth I had a midwife AND doctor. I felt so good about it having the midwife Karen there throughout the whole c-section process along with Dr. Tom who did the c-section. My second was born at CDH (as I was no longer a candidate for midwife delivery I guess) and I didn't like it NEARLY as well. I'm back with the Rush-Copley group despite the 40 minute drive!! They are SOOO excellent. I've met all but one doctor in the doctor group along with both midwives and they are all SOOO EXCELLENT. At my CDH group, despite the high recommendations I'd heard at the time from people who ONLY used that group, of the half of the doctors I met, half were okay and half I didn't like, so HUGE difference to me. Not nearly as good bedside manner there, terrible scheduling and office wait times, and felt much more rushed with the doctors. May have been alright not having had experienced such a great group with Rush-Copley. The Rush-Copley group is so thorough and good, along with having excellent bedside manner!! I highly recommend them, though they may be a little out of the way. At the time my first was born 4.5 years ago, they no longer offered water birth since their birthing tub had broken (a friend had a water birth there the previous year or so with Karen and Noreen and had an excellent experience). They sent on the message that I was interested in the water birth possibility to try to gain enough patient interest for the hospital to spend the money investing in a new birthing tub. So they MAY have gotten a new birthing tub since then...not sure. :) I think Delnor might have midwives as well...not completely sure. Best wishes to yoU!!

I don't know if this info is useful for you, but Copley isn't to far from Wheaton and they have great midwives. Karren Bar and Noreen are excellent! They also give the option of doing a water birth. I had my second and third babies there and was very happy with them. Feel free to email me if you'd like more info.

There is a practice that is associated with Edwards that has something like 3 drs and 3 midwives. I wanted to use them but they only take BLue Cross insurance and I don't have that. I don't remember the name, but I am sure if you look at Edward website you can serach for them.

congratulations on your pregnancy! I am due Feb. 4 and after months of research before getting pregnant, switched to Fox Valley Medical Group in order to deliver at Rush-Copley with the midwives Karen and Noreen. They have both been great thus far, and the birthing tub has been replaced, as I am planning on laboring and or delivering in the water. Alexian Brothers in Arlington Heights allows midwives through an organization called Midwest Midwifery (http://www.midwestmidwifery.com/index.php?page=Map_Direct.... They have offices in West Chicago and Elk Grove and maybe Addison...I'm not positive.

Another option is at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park. They have a few rooms in their ABC (alternative birthing center)and I think there are two midwife groups that have privileges there.

I know of some out of Hinsdale and In Aurora. Is that too far for you? How far along are you? Are you looking for all natural birth too? Just an FYI I am a certified HypnoBirthing instructor and training Doula. I had my son out of Edward hospital and I cannot say they have midwives there. Though my Doula was completely helpful in helping me establish my goals for a natural and gentle birth while also using HypnoBirthing. Let me know if I can help. I can see if there are Midwives at CDH, though I am not certain there too. I know Edward is very conservative and not big on midwives, which stinks!
