Hello! I have been trying, rather unsuccussfully, to get on a regular excercise schedule since my daughter was born over 2 years ago. I beleive that a short race, approx. 5 miles, would be a great goal to set to help motivate my efforts. Is anyone aware of a local, relativey short race, that will take place in fall/winter? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi A.-Marie,

So many of us moms struggle with the same issue - time (and energy) to exercise! Check out www.fityummymummy.com (and www.fymclub.com) - it's a fabulous program and there's a lot of mom-to-mom online support to keep a person motivated. I love it! There are hundreds (or more!) of moms who are enjoying great results using the FYM system - all ages, at all stages of parenting (or some with no kids at all), and all over the world. It doesn't matter what level of fitness you are currently enjoying (or not enjoying!) - it works for anyone who wants to work it.

Just thought I'd share - check it out and see what you think.

God bless you,
S.

Hi A.-Marie,

I would suggest looking into some Team In Training Events through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. There are several walk runs happening in the Fall, and they train you from start to finish! You can go to the team in training website, or the leukemia & lymphoma site to get all the information you need! I just completed an endurance hike through the Hike For Discovery program, which is also a part of Team in Training. Be aware that any and most traces will require a registration fee and/or fund raising.

Good Luck!

A little about me:

I am a STAH mama to 4 beautiful little men ages 9,6, and twins that are 4! I love to sing, cook, hike, camp, and spend time with friends and family!

There's a great website that has information on local races and events called Active.com. You can narrow down your search under "running" and where/when you want to run. I'm actually running a 10k (about six miles) tomorrow in Los Gatos. I also set this small goal so that I'd stay motivated with my workouts. Good luck!

Hi A.-Marie,
A great "race" for the whole family is the Big Sur Half Marathon/5K Walk-Run which is usually in mid-November. It starts in Monterey and winds along the Monterey Bay Coastline on Oceanview Blvd, Pacific Grove, and back along the coast bike/walk trail. Old and young, singles and families participate...each at their own pace. There are lots of motels for the night (it's only 1 hr and 15 minutes from San Jose), great restaurants, and shopping for later. If you come, do visit the cute shops in downtown Pacific Grove---N.'s Attic, Mrs. Trawick's, Tides, Trellis, and lots of clothing stores! N.
P.S. I'm married to a runner/triathlete and he hates to miss this race!

there is the rock n' roll race coming in Oct. in San Jose. I think you can do a 5 mile - 13 mile run.

I loved the Palo Alto Moonlight run. I think its end of Sept. Really fun, friendly race, by the bay on the first moonlit friday in fall. They also do a stroller 5k if you want to run/walk with your little girl. I think the registration should be opening quite soon. (I did the 10k 2 years ago). They have this cool warm up aerobics thing, too!

The Palo Alto Moomlite run every yer in September or October is fun (around the full moon). It's usually a friday evening and they have different length events 5k - 10k. I usually do the 5k walk.
