Jeans for Large Children

My son is 4 1/2 yrs old. Because of a underlying metabolic issue, my sons belly is much bigger compared to his height. He so wants a pair of jeans to wear to school. Does anyone know of brands that make jeans bigger in the belly, but shorter in the legs?

I had him try on a pair of size 6 jeans a few weeks ago - he could not even snap the snap under his little belly, but they were very long from the waist to the crotch and crotch to the ankle!

Thanks all for the help.

Please do not answer with things about my sons weight, how he should loose weight or eat better. His metabolic issue has caused severe liver damage which has resulted in the bigger belly and chubbyness he has.

What can I do next?

Google "husky jeans for kids" and you will find several discount clothing stores that carry wide-waist jeans.

I hear ya! Going through the same problem, again...

Walmart, and Target sell jeans with elastic waists. You may need to either have him just wear jeans shorts (we do this with my son), or buy a pair that fits and have them hemmed at the dry cleaners.

I don't know that you'll find a waist larger than a 6 but length shorter like a 4 or 5 BUT what I would do is buy jeans that fit in the waist and have them taken in by a seamstress to fit the length (and she may have to taper the legs in a bit so they don't look "too wide" for him. Here, there are tailors and seamstresses at some of the dry cleaners in town and they're pretty reasonable...he'd be SO happy! Good luck and God bless your little O.!

so sorry to hear about your son's medical problem. Sending prayers up for him and your family.

I buy jeans at SEARS because they have the kid vantage. They also have husky sizes. May have to try several sizes on him. My son was into a 12 regular, but the length was way too long. I tried the husky knowing they wouldn't work and he could wear size 8 husky. They were big around waist for him, but fit him in length. Would rather do belt than cut/hem.

Good luck in your search. It is hard to find clothes that fit!! May try jeans that have elastic waist band also.

walmart carries husky . then you could take them to the cleaners and get the hemed if you don't sew. i know it is hard my girl is 10 and 5ft.3 and 140 lbs. she is all belly. we are now in a 8 ave. junior. this is the first time she has been able to put on a pair of jeans that fight. if they are a little large in the croch don't worry about it. he will be on cloud nine because he is in jean. my girl was in 3rd grade before we found her a pair that kind of fit. if they are big in the waist get a cool belt. she could waer bigger sizes at that age but they were way too short. i know one time at old navy she tried on 14 pairs of jeans and we left with they lady saying i am so sorry. of yea, she told us to go to gap kids they have more sizes. we didn't even try. we were both done by that point and went home with no jeans. good luck. You may need to go to some place like this http://makeyourownjeans.com/ to get his jeans custom made. They say on their site that they do make jeans for children just make sure when you order that you tell them it's for a child. They will be more expensive than buying off the rack, but in the end may be worth it for his self esteem. You may also ask at your local dry cleaners. Often they have tailors that might be able to take an off-the-rack pair of jeans and make it fit him.

People can be cruel. I have a 12yods with Aspergers and people often just think he's snobbish or rude because of it. I hope you find something that fits him, he sounds adorable.

Sounds like my answer has already been suggested. ....husky jeans. Sometimes you can find it with elastic while they are younger. I bought husky's during my child's development. Sometimes they just go through some odd stages and the body is bigger than the legs. I have also hemmed pants for him as well. You or a cleaners could do it. Take a pair that fits him --a good length---and they can measure from there. Or if you go to a tailor, they can measure where to hem. I recommend leaving enough so you can let them down as he grows. Kmart and Walmart I think also have husky sizes as does Sears. Check with them as well. I never did much shopping at Old Navy or the Gap. There is a Kmart in Wilmington as there are all the other stores(Gap, Old Navy, Walmart....) if you need to leave your area for convenient shopping.

Poor little guy! Just buy him a pair that fits his waist and then hem the length to fit his legs. If you take them for alterations, it'll run you about $10.

My son is 4 1/2 as well, and we had to buy a size 7 for his school uniform this year. They are so long, but we are having my mom alter them for us. We bought them from Old Navy. We have to go through this every year with both of my kids, my daughter is 6 and wears a size 10. Elastic is our friend haha.

Old Navy & the Gap sell Husky size jeans with elastic bands hidden in the waist. They tend to be at least an inch bigger in the waist. You may be able to find husky sizes elsewhere. My mom bought them for me at Sears when I was growing up :) If they are still too long to be manageable, find a dry cleaner near you who also has a tailor who could alter them- just leave enough length so he can grow some.

Good Luck !
