I Have Got to Find a GREAT OB/GYN in Dallas

I have gone to a few of the "best" OB/GYNs in Dallas (there is a list). I have had the current one for 5 years after I took a break when I was out of state. He delivered my last child at Med City. He first saw me in the late '80s then when I would come home from college. I just can't believe he is the best that is out there. He has a partner that is great but I can't transfer in the practice. What I am looking for is someone who is against The Pill or synthetic BC as the ONLY solution for problems. In fact someone who will admit that some women cannot take any form of fake hormones. I can't tell you how many doctors have told me that all of the side effects I had on every BC under the sun, Mirena, Depo, Lo Estrogen, Mixed Type, Etc - were not side effects. Serious, serious side effects were just imaginary. So he and I have never gotten over that spat because I refuse to go back on BC even if I will eventually have other problems. That is over. I don't need BC anymore, my husband is fixed, but somehow everyone just wants you to take it. 'Take it for your period, take it for your mood swings, take it to get "normal", take it for your endometriosis or you'll get cancer'. That is the first problem. Second problem, I don't feel like these people listen to me whatsoever. I read a few books on bioidentical hormones and by golly, if they can drug me to simulate being pregnant (that's what the pill does) they can drug me to have the hormone panel of a 20 year old! Third problem is that I would love to have a GREAT staff. Nurses that call back, appts that are reasonably kept like I have a 1000AM and I am seen by 1030AM. Yesterday I waited 2 HOURS TO BE SEEN for a yeast infection!

My doctor did a GREAT job with my deliveries. But he has no clue what an aging woman goes through. I can do private pay along with insurance, no problem. I can even drive to Irving or Fort Worth. I do need someone who will see me for "routine" things like whatever, a pap smear. Dr. Margaret Christiansen here in LH doesnt do routine stuff. PLEASE HELP. If you are an OB/GYN and are reading this - PLEASE HOOK ME UP - I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER. If you are my current doctor and recognize me, dude - do yourself a favor get some updated info or retire. Women actually do know their bodies best!

So What Happened?

So finally I had enough time to follow up on the 38 names I got from everyone! Thank you guys so much. This last week I found THE MAN - Dr. Janusz Kalanowski - who is in Medical City. He is exactly what I was looking for and I think 2009 will be my year finally. He right off the bat ordered a blood hormone panel, spent probably an hour with me in total. Perfect. Of course the other office in Medical City has yet to send him my medical records (3 requests faxed), but I had copies from my files. His back office is amazing. Thank you all for your kind and wonderful response.

I would strongly recommend Robert Bender in Plano (Plano Medical Center is where is office is located). He has stepped out of the OB aspect to focus his pratice on the GYN part of the medicine! I have been to him for several reasons over the years and have recommended him over the years to friends. They all have be very happy. Good luck!

Hi Allyson,
I know you received a lot of responses, but I wanted to let you know I had the same problem. I went through the pill (every brand), the patch, etc. I just can't do hormones. My dr, who was frustrated with my problem sent me to Dr. Maria Reyes and she took care of me. As a matter of fact she and Dr. Elizabeth Stevens share their practice. I noticed someone else suggested Dr. Stevens (she's great too....she was on call and delivered my 22 month old)!! I now have the copper IUD (NO HORMONES). I am happy!! Either choice is a great one: Dr. Stevens or Dr. Reyes (Dr. Reyes # is ###-###-####). Good luck!!

I cannot recommend them highly enough, once you go there, you will never go anywhere else! The midwives at Allen Birthing Center!

They can do every practical thing a doctor can do, only more safely, they know natural and prescription remedies, they do full spectrum well-women health for all ages, they do pre and post natal care and of course birth babies! They are ALL so nice, prompt, acurate, attentive, smart, they listen, they care, they go out of their way for you in every area-even billing and such--they are very reasonable, as well! Just visit once and you'll be hooked, I promise!

I transferred to them mid-pregnancy with my fourth child, I ended up being a little late and needed a c-section, but Becky delivered me vaginally with her incredible skill and patience. I walked home that night and was cleaning a little the next day, I felt so great! I had three hospital babies, but never again!
I went back for pap-smears, physicals, a lump I found, hormones, they can do it all. They even do the lab work right there!

They are all so kind and phenominal, I'm treated like a Queen!

I hope to only have a female OB/Gyn from now on. Love having a dr. that can relate. Jennifer Freeman is excellent--smart, on top of all that's new for women, listens, takes time, very personable. Friendly staff too. Dr. Freeman is at Presby Dallas. Also, a great doctor but less personable is Dr. Crockett.

I have the same feelings about many doctors. I LOVED my OB and she just retired to stay home with her kids. So, I can't wait to see the responses you get. I am in LH too and I do know there are a lot af doctors at Presby that my friends say they love but since mine retired I don't really have names. I wish I could help more. Good luck!

Hey A.,

I have been seeing a WONDERFUL OB/GYN for the last 2.5 years now. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 5 years ago (so I understand issues with hormones) and it took 2 years of infertility treatments to have our daughter. I just had our 2 baby 4 months ago and told my doctor that I would not be going back on the pill as I had a HORRIBLE experience on several different versions of it (I am also certain that it's what triggered my PCOS issues because until I went on them I never had any problems). He was very supportive, listened to what I had to say, and gave me multiple options (while explaining the pluses and minuses to each). He staff is AMAZING as well. When I got pregnant on my own the second time they rushed me in to do blood work to make sure all was well (I had two miscarriages before my daughter). They call back after hours to give results as well. At one point during my first pregnancy we thought we were losing her, and I called in a state of panic around 2am. He calmed me down, then had me come in first thing in the morning (I could have gone to the ER, but if I were truly miscarrying there would have been nothing they could have done). He and the staff were awesome through the whole thing. They were also able to fit my mom into a very busy schedule (she lives overseas)without any issues, and ask about her constantly when she is gone. His name is Dr. Fong and his office is right next to Medical Center of Plano. That may be too far away for you, but I had to mention him just in case. Good luck and I hope you are able to find the doctor that works best for you!

Best wishes!

I recommend Dr. Frances Crites at Presbyterian - Dallas. Don't know about the medicines - but she is very open.

Also, she gets you in and out -- I have never had to wait that long - even if I call because I have an issue and need to be seen that day.

Try Dr. Jan Goss, at MCD. She's wonderful, and has made the "best ob/gyns" in the country. She's caring, attentive, readily available, and works with you to create a plan that you like. She treated me when I had some real problems, and there have been times I stopped at her office without an appointment, because I needed some questions answered, and she actually took the time to listen to my concerns!

I personally see Dr. Kristi Ryder at Northlake OB/GYN. They are at Medical City in Dallas. I think she is great and she really listens. When I go in for my appointment I am usually back with a nurse within 10 minutes of my scheduled time. She is kind of yound but there are several other doctors in the practive. A client of mine seens Dr. Roberts and she says she loves him and has been going to him for years. Everyone I've met that sees Dc. Mclintock in the practice has outstanding reviews as well. Look them up and give them a call the nurses and reception staff is very nice and caring.

I'm done having babies, I had a tubal, so I don't even bother with an OB/GYN anymore, I just go to a Dr. who practices Internal Medicine. She does my yearly paps. I really like her and she's very down to earth. She even occassionally has her dog at the office, signs posted of course in case of allergies. But she's the first Dr. I've been to who listens and doesn't interupt me after 30 seconds. I've lived in Flower Mound & now in Plano & I'll still drive the extra distance to see her.

Her name is T. Anne Myint:

Besides being a great doctor she has the best nurse in the universe.

I love Dr. Elizabeth Stevenson, located at Park Lane and 75. see http://www.parklaneobgyn.com/
She's a younger doctor (late 30s) and is in touch with women's issues. I've referred a lot of my friends who have issues that run the gamut. I would give her a try. I don't know of her opinions about BC as I've never been on it, but her staff is excellent and courteous. She delivered my two kids and is a DO, not an MD, so she's more natural about childbirth.
Hope this helps.

Hi A.:

NEVER in my life have I heard of not being allowed to transfer to a partner within a practice...that's just ridiculous...just call and make an appointment...they can't control whether or not you see the doctor or the partner...that's just laughable, you're certainly entitled to see any doctor you choose...and I can't believe anyone would go along with that.

I have a great OB/GYN that I've gone to for years...he delivered both my children and has never tried to persuade me one way or the other concerning birth control or any other issue, it's always strictly my choice..he has lots of partners and you can see any of them that you want to. He's in Medical City Dallas, which is a great facility.

Dr Samuel Tyuluman is wonderful. He is near Presby Dallas in the new Carrell building. I just went from OB to GYN, so to speak, and he spent an hour talking to me about cells and cancer and exercise and self care, and not a word about hormones. He is incredibly smart and incredibly nice. I highly recommend him. Check out his website if you are interested. I'm not going to say that he is perfectly on time with each appointment, but when you are his patient you know that the lady in the next room is getting really great health care, and that he will spend as much time with you as you need, too.

You should go talk to Julie Hagood - part of Walnut Hill Ob/GYN at Presby Dallas. While I can't speak to the part about BC - because the whole time I've been seeing her it's during this phase of my life where I want to get pregnant - I can say that she seems to be on top of the latest thinking and open to different methods - not just what she's always been doing. Part of the reason is that she's younger - mid to late 30's. I just had a great discussion with her the other day about accupuncture for fertility.
On top of everything she has a wonderful nurse Emily and Dr Hagood is an amazing person. I'm always amazed that she has so much compassion & respect for me as a person. And she's been there when we had are wonderful little girl - and had to deliver a baby boy at 20 weeks.
I would at least schedule an appt with her for a consult (just talking) and see if you and she are on the same page. That's what I did before my husband and I tried to get pregnant - b/c I didn't like my OB at the time - part of a very conservative practice at Baylor (also considered one of the best).

Good luck. And just a random question - why were you going to a doctor for a yeast infection - just go get some monistat and cut out the long wait : )

Looks like you have several responses. Jan Goss and Cheryl Kinney at Medical City dallas are fabulous. They do not push anything. They are both older women that have been through or seen it all. Dr. Goss even referred me to another M.D. at a different hospital for my infertility problems. I now have a 6 and 7 yr. old. If they do not take your insurance, ask for a name of a DR. at Presbyterian. There is a great OBGYN that sounds like Ann "Lutitch". I know Dr. Goss delivered 2 of her kids. The DR. that delivered my kids was in her practice, unfortunately, she is no longer practicing. Good luck!

First of all, you're hysterical! This sounds like a difficult situation, but you write with such humor. Second of all, I have a recommendation for the best ob ever. (Seriously). BUT she's all the way in McKinney and can be tough to get in to. Dr. Jennifer Allen delivered all three of my kids. When I wanted a tubal ligation she refused because there is research out there that shows that it causes problems later in life. She pays attention to what is going on in the medical world. She listens to her patients. She is simply the most wonderful dr. out there. If I had a son, I was going to name it after hers...that's how much I love her! She is in the North Central Women's Health Partners practice http://www.ncwhp.com/ and their numbers are 972/542-8884 or Metro 972/562-1065, if you're interested. Good luck. :)

Dr.Phyllis Gee in Plano is awesome. A very up to date and thorough doctor. Her staff is super nice and professional. This is a woman's office. The office is clean and comfortable. Dr.Gee doesn't do ob so the oppiontments aren't pushed back for all the reasons most ob/gyn appt. are. She has a good website that will tell you more about her. I personally saw her once because I already have, love, and need my ob/gyn. She would be my choice if I didn't need an ob and love my own doc. Dr. Ricks is my doc. and he is great. I would reccomend him to anyone but you would likely preffer Dr.Gee being a woman and not having the delayed appt.s that Dr.Ricks has. Well, I hope you find who you are looking for :)
