Can You Recommend a Good Kids Shampoo and Conditioner?

My daughter and I both have long hair and like using Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship conditioner. That line of products actually has several conditioners that I really like.

My daughter (who is 9 now) grows hers out for Locks of Love and once it gets past shoulder length we start using Infusion Spray Leave in Conditioner and then braid it before she goes to bed at night. Doesn't seem to matter what shampoo we use as long as we use the conditioner, it is soft and easy to work with in the morning.

I absolutely love Trader Joe's Nourish shampoo and conditioner. My daughter has very ratty hair and that stuff works great and it's mostly organic and not tested on animals and only $2.99 a bottle.

I have custody of my 3 1/2 yr old grand daughter. She to had long hair till we had to have it cut duo to Sm bowl obstructions do to her eating her hair. I used/use Johnson's baby shampoo with conditioner in it. They do have a it but very hard to fine. I gave up on looking, so I use a little pantene pro-V in her hair it works great. The Johnson's detangler spray works great too.

I use Suave Kids Shampoo/Conditioner but with my older daughter I use my conditioner otherwise I cannot get a comb through her hair.

I gave up on buying children's shampoo and conditioner a year ago. I was having the same problems as you and I felt like their hair was getting really dry. I switched to using my shampoo and conditioner and I found that makes a big difference. I once read that shampoo doesn't matter as much when you use a cheaper brand vs a more expensive brand, but you should use a good conditioner, which would help you with your tangles. I use Biolage and I have been happy with it.

For my long haired daughter we use Pantene Beautiful lengths shampoo and conditioner and then comb through with a wide toothed comb and detangling spray and braid it while wet to sleep. Make sure to use the non-pull hair elasic bands.In the morning undo the braid, comb through a little more detangler and your done:)

I agree with Jessica F- about Trader Joes' Nourish shampoo & conditioner! It is also great for dry scalp (or dandruff or psoriasis). $3 for 16.9 oz. No laurel/laureth sulfates.
(I really dislike Johnsons' Buddies. They smell and feel like plastic or wax.)

We use Suave conditioner with detangler (green bottle). I know a lot of people are appalled when they hear what I'm about to say, but in truth, our hair does not really need shampoo. Rinsing and rubbing the scalp and hair with warm water is often enough. The shampoo and its ingredients really roughs up the hair shaft and results in your situation. Our daughter has long, curly, coarse hair and we use shampoo on it about 3 times a year. We wash her hair usally twice a week, but with only the conditioner. We rub it in and around to make sure her scalp is clean and healthy and you would not believe the difference in how nice her hair looks compared to when we used shampoo all the time. We use the Suave detangler spray (green bottle again) in between "washings" as needed. The curlier the hair, the less shampoo is needed. The hairs natural oils never get a chance to make it to the end of the hair shaft before the crown looks too greasy and continually washing hair with no natural oils is super drying and h*** o* it- causing the tangles etc. It's hard to do at first, it's all mental thinking your hair isn't clean without shampoo. Give it a try for just one week and see what you think. I'd be interested to know if it worked as well for you as it did for us!

S., as someone with long thick hair most of my life, and now with a daughter, I do have some input! It doesn't matter a lot which shampoo and conditioner you use, as long as you do use conditioner. We even like the Shampoo & Conditioner in one. Keep some spray detangler on hand for when you are combing dry hair and use it liberally. But my BEST advice is, GET A PICK. Remember those really wide toothed plastic combs and picks? These are the BEST for getting through thick long hair with the least pain. Especially when wet. It's amazing, really. It's all I use on myself when my or my daughters hair is wet. If you can't find one at a target or Walmart, check at Ulta. Good luck!

My son has dry, curly hair and I have long hair and I use Suave 3 in 1 (shampoo, conditioner, bodywash) and Suave for Kids Kids Conditioner plus Detangler on both of us -- they're tear free and I don't have to buy seperate stuff!

Johnson and Johnson has a great leave-in conditioner that you put on after you get out of the tub and I usually just comb through with a wide-tooth comb. Works great. I can't rememeber what it's called but it's in a green bottle.

My six year old has very thick hair and hates getting her hair combed. We now use Arbonne adult shampoo and conditioner. She has to be careful not to get it in her eyes because it burns. But it works good. Found only through an Arbonne consultant-let me know if you don't have one.
I also bought her the "Ouchless" brush. We found it at Wal-mart. It works really good.

Hi S.. My dds are 5 and 7 and both have long hair. I just use Suave kids shampoo with conditioner, mostly. The best thing I can recommend, though, is the spray detangler. I use that just about every day when I brush out their hair and it helps a lot. Just having it wet, sprayed down with water, helps. Making sure you brush it in the morning and at night before bed also helps cut down on the tangles building up and getting bad.

When my daughter was young and had long hair I'd brush it before bedtime and put it in a loose braid. Made mornings so much easier (and quicker)with lot less tangles in her hair. My daughter also had/ has thick and wavey hair.

I like the new Suave 2 in 1. I think there is a strawberry one. There are cartoon girls on the front. My daughter has really curly hair, but it gets so stragly in the winter and this seems to help.

my daughter has a ton of hair--she's 4 1/2 and has had it cut at the local salon probably a good 10 times, 2-4 inches each time! It's thick, but pretty straight. We use Johnson/Johnson shampoo/conditioner combo for straight hair, but I believe they have one for curly hair too. We then also use J/J "No More Tangles" spary after bath (or shower) before combing--works like a charm. If there are extra snarles, I just spray a little extra in that spot. My mom used that stuff on us (that was over 30 years ago) so I'm thinking it's a pretty reliable product. Good Luck!

I agree with Sharon D. Even with a good conditioner, a spray detangler will help a lot. I think J&J and Loreal but make one for kids.

My 5 year old has hair down to the middle of her back. I use the Suave 2 in 1 or 3 in 1 and then I use the Suave kids conditioner. As long as I use both her hair is a lot easier to comb through. Plus these are not that expensive.

My three year old has very long hair and is curly, I started using Garnier Fruitus Hydra curls shampoo and conditioner. I also use a pick and it works good.
