Hi Every one - What brand/type of shoes do you suggest for a little boy under 2 year? My little son is 21 months old and started walking and running as soon as he turned to one. He has a good arch but it seems that he put pressure more towards inside while he is walking? Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I would say stride rite or Carter's brand shoes. Both my daughter's pediatrician and my sister's pediatrician have recommended these shoes. I know they are a bit pricier (especially the Stride Rite brand) but they are worth it!!!

My kids are older now, but when they were toddlers they just wore shoes from Target, etc. because they grow out of them so quickly. They were totally fine, never wore Striderite, and now they never have health problems because they wore inexpensive shoes, in fact, they are very athletic and are the fastest runners in their classes.

I think Dr.'s recommend none......but you do have to have some sometimes.......if he does real well, get some nice flexible sandals for him for summer......not the kind that goes between your toes.....the open toe kind.......or some nice tennis shoes are good as well.......

Let him walk in them at the store to make sure they are not weird for him and he falls....

Good luck....have fun chasing him!!

Stride Rite, and kids dont form arches until they are at least 3 or 4. I would suggest the natural motion system line of shoes for outdoor play and bare foot indoors. Never ever buy resale shoes or cheap shoes you will pay for foot problems in the future. Yes Stride Rite shoes are expensive but very worth it. I provide for my children before myself and they need good shoes. Maybe look for a Stride Rite Outlet close to you, they will help you with sizing and find you a great pair of last season style shoes.

Our pediatrician was adamant about not buying into Stride Rite's "you have to have proper foot formation" claims. He has 3 kids under the age of 5.

Instead, he said the biggest issue initially is to make sure they're protected from environmental factors (mulch, rocks, spinters, insects, heat). He was a big fan of Robeez for learning to walk.

We have kids with Fred Flinstone feet - literally. Our son has finally transitioned from a double wide to almost normal. Our daughter is still a double wide making it really tough to find reasonably priced shoes.

Our constants are Crocs, tennis shoes (Saucony, New Balance, Clark's, etc) and some kind of dress shoe. We got really lucky this spring and found great deals on shoes at Kohl's that our kids have destroyed playing outside. At $12/pair, I don't mind as much as I do with a $50 pair of shoes from Stride Rite.

If you're concerned about putting pressure on his arches, I'd ask the pediatrician about it at his next appointment. If there's an issue, he'll likely refer you to a podiatrist for evaluation.

Don't know much bout arches and children, but with the speed that they grow and the price of those Stride Rites, I buy Payless. But my son does own StrideRites - Gammie bought them as she says they're the best. (I don't even spend $30 on MY shoes, much less my son's). But PAYLESS has WIDE shoes and not a lot of shoes for kids this young do have wides. So that's what I buy, or I go to the resale shops and buy their Stride Rites for $10 or so.

Hello, We raised all four of our kids on Stride Rite shoes. They are durable and comfortable. When we had custody of our grandson (5 months to 3 1/2 years) we had to go pretty far to find them and also found Elefantins. We had to go to Nordstrom's to find these. The Stride Rites are still an excellent buy, but the Elefantins are more flexible. Like Stride Rites, they have a pretty large selection of styles. At Nordstrom's they size them very well and the customer service is great. I even had to exchange a pair after several months due to the fact that I had bought ankle boots for my grandson and it was almost summer. He didn't wear them. They exchanged them with not a problem. They are more costly than PayLess shoes, but they are such good shoes and neither brand wears out before the child grows out of them.
As far as putting pressure on the inside of his foot, our youngest one did that. We had him in the shoe splints, which are connected to a good pair of shoes. Later, he was in a "Dennis Brown" correction prescription. Some doctors believe that this can be corrected by itself, but our son was very "pidgeon-toed" as well. The correction can be put into a good solid shoe. However, you would probably need an orthopedic doctor to prescribe it. If it isn't too bad, then he might just correct it on his own. You can ask your doctor's advice.
Good luck with your precious little boy.

I have a pair of Nike's for my 15 month old daughter. She's very comfortable in them and has no problem walking. I was told about Stride Rite, but they were all too big for my daughters feet, lol.

Hi L.,

So I've heard lately that flip-flops and crocs are not good for kiddos. Sorry...I know it's a staple in a lot of families.

I like www.squeakyshoestore.com. You can take the squeakers out if you want. The shoes are good quality. I also like Gap shoes for boys. They have a summer pair of "sandals" that keep the toes covered, yet breathable.

Good luck!

They cost more, but the Pedi Peds have always been a major winner for comfort, ease of putting on, and durability. They have a web site otherwise I only see them in boutique baby shops. I'm not a boutique baby store kind of person, but when it comes to shoes, I am.

StrideRite. Yes, they're pricey, but I think there's a sale going on right now. (They tend to run a little small, or my son seems to outgrow them very quickly. I might suggest buying one size up from what they recommend, then at least the shoes will last you 6 months instead of 3 months.)

I buy Stride Rite shoes for my kids, but that's mainly because my kids have the widest feet ever! They sell x-wide and xx-wide...they're expensive, but they do last and my kids are always comfortable in them.

Good luck.
