Inexpensive Preschool in San Antonio?

I moved here in November and I am FLOORED by the price of preschool here! I've tried churches, centers, etc., and they all require, on average, a $100 registration fee, a $50 supply fee, and then monthly tuition of $225 or more for a simple 2 day/week 3-hr block of time! I don't understand! My sister in Oregon is paying a $30 registration fee, no supply fee, and $59/mo for the same thing.

I don't want a daycare--all I want is a two days a week, three hours each time, curriculum-based program. One that doesn't break the bank! Is there anything like that here? I live on the NE side, so one close by would be preferrable, but with the way things are, I'm willing to travel a little bit if there's a good one available.

What can I do next?

I haven't had to put my kids in pre-school for a while (i have one 4th grade and one in 5th grade)but, you might want to try:
thousand oaks baptist church (thousand oaks)
community bible church (1604)
madison hills baptist church (o'connor road)
parkhills baptist church(san pedro)

it's been awhile for me but i can't imagine that they've gone up that much on prices! That's pretty expensive for such a short amount of time! Both of my kids attended madison hills and one has also attended thousand oaks.

Good luck!!!

Valerie

It isn't on the NE but in Universal City and it seems hidden back in the community but I would recommend this preschool to anyone. Universal City United Methodist Preschool and Kids Day Out. They are Accredited by NAEYC and Just received the highest score possible. They are a small preschool with wonderful teachers Their prices just went up a little but they are still very reasonable. They do fill up but you might give them a try. My 4 year old goes 4 half days and I pay under 200 a month, she is very well prepared for kindergarten and socially she loves her friends and teachers and can't wait to go to school. The Kids' Day Out offers Tuesday and Friday 9-3 and all my kids started there. They just had registration so now is definitely the time to think about this. You may find it harder to find openings in good preschools the closer you get to September. Hope this helps. BTW, we are military and this school was recommended to us before we even moved here.

Me, too! My dd had just started last fall. She is 3yrs also. In a preschool just like you described. We were paying $100/mo. That is all that I can really justify as long as I'm a sahm. I'll be watching this thread. I have a teaching backround and do a little with her each day but I know she misses the interaction. (and I miss the free time.)

I just enrolled my daughter in Childhood Expressions it is at Windcrest United Methodest. It is a 100 registration fee and 100 suply fee but only 170 a month for 2 days and they go from 9-200. I have several friends with kids in this program. I am with you it is expensive- but it sounds like this is a little less then what you have been finding.

hi S.! so many things to keep in mind because if its cheaper but far from you, that isn't great either. The city is huge afterall! 225 is what i'm planning on paying only because where I moved from, preschool two half days a week was almost 600!!!! 225 is a big discount to me! :) I am in the same situation looking for information on this, so I hope you get good responses. I am wondering how you know one is good or not. Because if its cheaper, but of less quality, I don't think I'd do it. I want a good quality curriculum and care and hopefully not on the other side of the city!!! GOOD LUCK!

HI. My kids go to Triumphant Lutheran. It is a preschool on Bat Cave Rd in Garden Ridge. Close to Rolling Oaks mall. I pay $194 a month for both of them. They go Tues and Thurs from 9-1:30. I don't know the price for one kid but it will be less expensive than two, and you have the choice of 2 to 4 days a week and from 12 to 1:30. Whichever time frame and days you prefer. They are also accredited.

The best thing, I can think of is try....a place like Howard Early Learning Center ( AHISD). If your child has a speach delay ( which by the standards set is pretty easy to qualify and or other conditions ) you can get in. My sons go M-f 3 hrs a day and the bus brings them both ways. Mt Pre K kiddos can already right his name, count to 100 and is very social now. Every school district offers a simular program ....other than that good luck. I had that problem too just plain Day care in my area charges 120 a week! and I have two kids lol.

Also if you just want a Mommy's day out I believe there are a few church's that do that but not sure if they teach anything.

Sincerely
Valere
