Cough Remedies for 1 Yr Old Twins

Grand Rapids, MI

Hello everyone! I'm very new to this and am actually making my first post - yay! I love this site because people have such great advice and ideas, so here we go. Having 1 yr old twins and working full time has proved challenging in many ways. Since both my husband and I work full time, our children are in day care, which they love and we've grown to accept. However, they seem to get sick quite frequently, and there isn't anything OTC that we can give them anymore. They both have horrible coughs (not croup) and the typical runny nose/watery eyes. Any ideas on what we can do for the coughing? I feel awful hearing them cough all day. We give them plenty of fluids, warm baths, use the vaporizer at night with Vicks vapor mist in it, run the Vicks on their chests, backs, and feet......what else is there?!?!?! I'm at a loss.... Thanks in advance for any/all advice!!!

Frustrated with Primary Care Physician -Cymbalta

Dallas, TX

Ok so here I am again looking for advice. My primary doctor put me on Cymbalta a few months ago because I was having extreme anxiety issues due to family crisis. Well I took myself off of it about a month and half ago because I felt better and I have been doing fine. THings at home have calmed down and I am dealing with stress so much better. Anyway I went to the doctor yesterday because I have been super stiff and in a little pain. Well he thinks I have arthritis and did a blood test. I also have a urinary tract infection that I cannot seem to kick. Sorry I digress. I told him that I had stopped taking the Cymbalta because I feel better when I don't take it. So what does he do, he tells me to get back on it and this time ups it to 60mg. I told him that it was really hard getting started on the 30mg because I litterally felt like I was dying. So he prescribed me Xanax to take with it while I adjusted to it. Well I am not a pill taker and I felt like I was a zombie so I tried taking half of the Xanax and I finally just got tired of feeling liking a zombie so I stopped taking that too and by that time I was feeling ok on the Cymbalta. So here is my dilema I am afraid of how my body will react to the 60mg of Cymbalta. I don't want to take the Xanax to adjust to the Cymbalta. I don't know if I should just go to another primary. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really do not want to get back on the Cymbalta and definitely not at a higher dosage. I am not sure my doctor is listening to me. And about the arthritis he did not even prescribe or suggest anything for the pain. Help!

How to Prevent Scarring from a Hot Oil Burn

Dallas, TX

HI Moms. My son got a burn from a hibachi restaurant when hot oil splattered on the stove top. It hit him right between the eyes at the top of his nose. The scab came off today but it is very raw and red and the size of a pencil eraser. Any advice on how to prevent this from scarring and make it go away? Help. Thanks.

Juice Plus?

Dallas, TX

I was recommended Juice Plus by several friends for my children. Have some of you tried it? I looked it up on the internet and saw some bad things about it. Has it worked for you? I do have a friend that sells it, so please,I do NOT need to find a vendor ( I would use my friend). I just want to know from someone who does NOT sell it , if it has worked for your kids as far as keeping or making them healthier? Do you still give a multivitamin? Thanks, B.

Migraines-Topamax

Chicago, IL

Hi moms, I was wondering if anyone out there has taken the medication Topamax. It is a preventive medicine for migraine sufferers. My doctor has suggested I get on it because of my frequent migraines, but this is a medication you need to take daily and I am a bit skeptical about daily medication. The side effects are scary to which are: sleeplessness, loss of weight (extreme), forgetfulness ( I already forget everything)and tingling in hands and feet. If anyone has taken this medicine please let me know as I am really considering it because I am tired of being sick all the time. Thanks.

My Daughter Won't Take Medicine!

Sacramento, CA

My daughter is almost 2 1/2. When she was 19 months old, she had to have surgery for which she was required to take pain medicine afterwards. Unfortunately, on the car ride home, she got sick from the anesthesia, just as we were dosing her with Tylenol. Since, we have tried disguising the Tylenol in every way imaginable and we have bought the chewables. She won't take it! She will spit it out. We have to use a suppository! Right now I think she may have a secondary infection (I'll be taking her to the doctor in the morning), and if she has to take an antibiotic, I don't know what I'll do. Please help!

Needing Pros & Cons on "Adderall"

San Antonio, TX

We have been having long term "focus" issues with my now 11 year old son and have exhausted all other avenues to try and help him. Last year he was tested for ADHD and it came back negative, however, this school year the daydreaming and lack of focus during school has increased. We have adjusted his diet from less processed sugars and have focused on higher protein and although it has generally improved his health it really hasn't done much for the attention issues. Up until now, we have been opposed to medications for all the reasons many parents have. A trusted colleague has gone through the same issues with his son and they finally decided to try Adderall. He tells me it has changed his son's life for the positive. He is able to do his homework, his grade's have vastly improved and most importantly his son is happier. I have done internet research, but I want to hear the good, bad & ugly from a parents perspective. Thanks for your input!

Recalled Children's Medicine

Houston, TX

I haven't been to the drug store since the recall of the children's cold medicines. I went yesterday and was surprised to see many of the medicines that were on the recall list...on the SHELF!!! I was wondering if the recall was mandatory or not? I'm still not going to give it to my son, but I'm afraid some people may still be tempted to do so.

Refusing Medication

Dallas, TX

My daughter has never wanted to take medicines such as Tylenol infant drops or antibiotics. We've tried the droppers, the syringes, letting her do it herself, bribing her with candy and we usually end up having to practically force it down her (and half of that she ends up spitting out). I recently bought the Tylenol meltaway tablets now that she's two thinking she might take those, but she still spits it out and refuses to take her medicine. Has anyone else had this problem? I'd love to hear any suggestions that have worked for you.

Ritalin

Pensacola, FL

I am sure this is a hot topic, but I haven't had time to really look around here about it. My son was on Ritalin for ADHD and I took him off of it for the summer. He seemed to do fine but is now stating that he can not focus and he wants to be back on the meds. Sigh. I am so worried about future problems resulting from him taking the meds :( Anyone else have this dilemma? He is 12 years old and very smart. It is hard not to treat him like an adult because he is advanced intellectualyy.Should I put him back on a stimulant drug that I hate to give him but it does seem to help him focus? Are there other alternatives besides medications like ritalin? I tried homeopathic treatments but they were all chewable, terrible tasting huge wafers. Any insight would be so helpful! Liz

Seeking Advice on Strattera ADHD Medication for My 5 Year Old!!!!!!! Help!!!!!!!

Houston, TX

O.k. mommies I need some advice... My 5yr old daughter has been diagnosed with ADD. Her pediatrician gave her Strattera for her to begin taking tomorrow. He started her on an 18mg dosage for 4 days, then wants me to increase to 25mg per day, is this the normal dosage?? I want to know if anyone has any experience with their children on this medication. I read a bit about it on the internet and I really am reluctant to give her this at all. To top it off I do not see any focusing or hyper activity in her at all. She attends a very fast paced private school and they want her to repeat kinder at this point which I am very much against. Anyone who knows my little one says it is crazy to think she is ADD but her teachers insist that she is...

Side Effects of Yaz - Agitation?

Columbus, OH

Due to a medical prblm my OB put me on Yaz. I haven't taken the pill in over 2 decades and have noticed that since I have been on it, I have been very agitated, short-tempered and impatient. I am not on any other drugs that could have some type of reaction w/this pill. My OB thinks my agitation is unrelated but nothing else has changed in my life. I'm also experiencing fatigue, headaches and lack of motivation (a general blah kinda mood). I just wondered whether there are other women out there that have had this type of experience on Yaz and what you did about it?

Specialty Pharmacy Needed in North Dallas, Addison or Richardson

Dallas, TX

Can anyone recommend a good specialty pharmacy? I need a pharmacy that can do compounds for children, which regular pharmacies do not do. My daughter is recovering from heart transplant and several of her medicines need to be filled at a specialty pharmacy. I've had problems in the past with the branch we were using in Houston, and would like a new one in Dallas rather than depending on the one in Houston to ship to us! We live in North Dallas between Addison and Richardson. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

My six year old spiked a fever of 102 today. We have been treating her every six hours with Children's Tylenol but it seems to be keeping her awake. UTI Remedies (Urgent)

San Francisco, CA

Hello moms! I'm having a major issue with a UTI. I have had it for coming up on 4 months now. I have tested and re-tested myself. I have done two rounds of antibiotics (and I can't remember the last time I took them before this so I know my system is NOT immune to it). I have taken two full bottles of cranberry tablets, one full bottle of d-mannose and about 15 bottles of unsweetened cranberry juice. I drink about 3.5- 4 liters of water daily and would consider my system flushed out. I know of one other supplement that would be helpful but since I'm breastfeeding I know taking Uva Ursi is out. I was given sulpha drugs to begin with and those are contraindicated with breastfeeding. Any possible suggestions?????
