Sad to Return to Work After 3 Months

My daughter is now a little over 3 months and officially in "daycare" full time. Fortunately we have family watching her. However, I'm still really sad, hate to leave her in the morning and cry sometimes during work because I miss her so much. Some days are better than others. When does this sadness go away? How long does it usually take to let go?

What can I do next?

Hi A.,
I know it is tough, really, super tough. I think that you will be a little less sad once you see how happy/adjusted she is when you pick her up in the afternoon. And, just think of how her exposure to other people is good for her. Plus, she's with family so that gives them a time to bond with her. I still get sad and my baby is 9.5 months but I realize that in order for us to give her the things she needs that I HAVE to work. I had family watching her from the time she was 5 mos. until 8 mos. and then started her in daycare for 2 days a week. At first it was difficult knowing she wasn't with family but she just loves being around other kids and your baby will, too!
Hang in there. It's tough but remember why you are going to work and that your baby is loved and she is just fine!

I put my daughter in a home daycare (few kids) at 6 months old and it took a couple months to get use to. She is a year old now and it is getting easier.I am a teacher so I get to see my daughter a lot, because of the many holidays/summer. It does get a lot easier- my daughter loves her daycare lady and the other kids. Sometimes I feel guilty not being home, but if I stayed home we would not survive financially.

Hi A.,

I returned to work when my son was 3 months old also. The first month was the worst. I cried all the way to work as well. It has gotten easier (He is 9 mo old), but I still miss him most days. Hang in there..

My daughter is almost 15 months old now and is in daycare full time since she was almost 4 months old. It was hardest for me that first month and then everytime she would start to do something new. I still have days or even weeks where I hate to be at work because I miss her so much. She drives me insane sometimes too but I miss her so much when I am at work. It seems I spend most of my day thinking of her or thinking of ways to improve her lifesystle (soymilk vs. cows milk, cloth diapers vs. disposibles). I have spent a lot of time on these types of websites since I have returned to work and it helps to see other people going through the same thing. Be happy that she is with family that you can trust to take good care of her. I have been through 4 daycares or sitters since returning to work and finally think I have found the last one I will have her in. She loves it there.

I can only imagine how you feel. When we started having kids I could not bring my self to go back to work. So I found Premier Desings.

Premier Designs is amazing! It is based out of Dallas, Texas and is new to this area. It is growing so strong here. I would love for you to be a part of it.

I have been with Premier Jewelry for 6 years as my full time job. You make excellent income with all the perks of play time and great support from others.

You make an average of $200.00 to $300.00 per night. I have made as much as $700.00 in one night! It just depends on the private showing of the jewelry. But you always make 50% commission with no sales quotas!

Give me a call. I would love to meet with you for coffee and give you all the information with no strings attached. It is only my job to share it with others, not to convince you this is the best. It is up to you if you want to make a little or a lot of extra cash and still stay home.

I have four children and they love that I have been to all their functions and still volunteer at school!

I completely understand how you feel. I cried for at least a month on my way to work. My mom watches my daughter so I know she's in good hands, but it's HARD! Especially since they become so much more alert and interactive around 3 months. I've been back at work for 4 months now and for the most part I'm good, but some days it still gets to me. I'm sure that's not what you wanted to hear, but that's how it is for me. It did get a lot easier for me after about the first month, but some days are still hard. I'm sure it doesn't help a lot, but you are not alone.
Best of luck!

Dear A.,
I absolutely know how you feel. Leaving your baby with anyone at this age to go to work is a hard hard thing!! It does get a little easier, and you might consider that your hormones are still out of whack from the pregnancy which doesn't help.

Is there any way that you can do something from home and be home with her? Maybe you could watch another baby or child and make-up your income that way? I regret that I didn't start a small daycare when I had my daughter so I could stay at home for her first year. I had no idea how much I would love being home with my kids...
Good luck!!
J.
