Best Diapers for Nights?

My 9mo. old son has recently been leaking through his size 4 diapers at night. He's 21 pounds and 30 inches, so I'm pretty sure he doesn't need the next size up, and the size 3 diapers are definitely too small. Any suggestions (other than cutting back on before bed liquids) for what might help? Has anyone tried the Huggies overnights? Is it cruel to let him sleep in a super soaked diaper until morning? I really don't want to start a habit of diaper changing in the middle of the night.

What can I do next?

My 15 month old has always worn Huggies and for the most part they keep it contained all night. She rarely leaks at night. My friend buys them just for night for her twin girls. I get a huge pack at Sam's club for about $30. I think there are like 186 in there. The Sam's membership fee is worth it just for the savings on diapers and wipes.

Hands down all the way, Huggies overnites. Walmart sells them in a 62 pack for like $18, Rainbow 31 for $9.50 or so and Target 31 for $9.50 or so. He starting using these and will NEVER go back to a different overnight diaper. You will be very happy with these... MY son has not leaked once since we started using them. Try these first before switching diaper sizes.

We had to use Huggies Overnights for a while, but don't forget to try switching back to regular diapers occasionally - the super-wet at night phase is pretty short.

To respond to the second half of your question, I have left my (3) kids in one diaper all night as soon as possible, even if they end up pretty wet. As long as they don't soak through, I leave it on. I haven't had any trouble with rashes or the children waking for that reason.

I've noticed sometimes that if I change their diapers immediately upon waking, they're dry. Give them 10 minutes, though, and they're soaked. So the soaked diapers you're seeing in the morning may have been dry a lot of the night.

Unlike Christine, I found that my daughter was leaking through Luvs so I switched and found that the Target brand works the best for my family. They are cheap and they work all night. Good luck!

I have the same thing with my son. Hes 14 mos and if I dont use the Huggies overnites then hes majorly soaked and I changing sheets. I think he tends to wake up more in the night if he doesnt where an overnite as well...Havent had a problem with a rash cause I usually cream him up with butt paste and creamy A&D.

I have 4 kids and have used everything under the sun in diapers.

HTH....

I have been using the Huggies Overnights since my son was about 11 months I think. he is 17 months now. They work really well. I have been avoiding changing him in the middle of the nights too and he does not get diaper rash or anything. I would suggest trying them for yourself. You will love them too.
Good luck!!!

My daughter did the same thing at about a year for us. Every night soaked through. The Huggies overnights worked great for us - no more nighttime leaks or waking up soaked through.

Hi K.,

I use the Huggies overnights and THEY ROCK!!! That's the only time I buy a name brand diaper. I have a 19 month old and she's super soaked in the AM but it doesn't bother her. I never change her in the morning. I would HIGHLY recommend Huggies overnights you won't be disappointed.

I had the same problem with my daughter leaking her diaper. I tried all the major brands, Hugguies (over nights), Pampers, Luvs and none of them worked. One days I got the Walgreens Premium diapers (in the red pack), and she no longer leaks. I love them so much they are the only ones I use. I like the tabs on them. They are made of strecthy material and not plastic. The plastic tabs on the Luvs diapers cut my babies legs. Try them, they are also cheaper. To answer the 2nd part of your question, it is not cruel to leave him in that diaper, unless he has a rash or BM. It will be worse in the long run if you wake him several times at night to change him.
Hope this helps. Good luck. :)

K.,

My daughter uses the Huggies Overnights size 4 and they're great! She has over-saturated the diaper only twice in the 3-4 months that we've been using them, but she is a huge water drinker and may have drank more than usual just before bedtime. I haven't seen any other brand of overnights besides Huggies, have you? As for sleeping in a super-soaked diaper...wouldn't you rather he be in a wet diaper than a wet diaper AND wet pjs? The Huggies have more "padding" in the front than "daytime" diapers and by morning (she sleeps 12 hrs in them) it's completely full. Anyway, hope this helps!

I use Luvs and have with both children. With my dd she is a wiggly worm when she sleeps. I sometimes but a rubber bottom like you would for training pants on her and put a absorbable mat under her. I also check to make sure both cheeks are covered. I still change her before I go to bed at night and sometimes have to change her during the night.(Even if I limit liquids) If I leave her in a soaked diaper overnite she gets bad diaper rash.

The "Huggies Overnights" are the only diaper that worked for my daughter. She was absolutely soaked every morning, but never leaked! I used the diaper cream called "Butt Paste" at night, and she never had a diaper rash.

Hi, I would go the next size up. My son went through the same thing, I just used the 5's for bed time only and kept the 4's on him during the day, the problem is that they just need more diaper to hold back the pee. Especially with boys. Just make sure they are secured snuggly. The Huggies Overnights work great now for my little guy but the weight is 38 lbs and higher, but you could give them a whirl to see if they work for him. It won't hurt him to wear them all night even if it is soaked. That would just interupt his sleep schedule and yours. If it isn't bothering him then defiantly don't let it bother you. Hope that helps! Good Luck!

I went through the same thing when my daughter was in size 4's! We did try going up a size just for night time and it worked out just fine! We did also cut back on liquids after dinner as well! She seemed to have a bladder that could hold gallons and it all came out at night!!!!! But you are right you do not want to start late night changing then it will come back to haunt you during potty training time!

huggies over nights really work well. over just the huggies supreme the ones in the dark red pkgs. alot of times when you change in the middle of the night they don't even wake up but sleep more comfortable.

Cloth! No joke, we use cloth diapers and whenever my boys were in disposables they leaked right out of them. Fuzzi Bunz are great for overnight cuz they are fleece outside, which wicks the moisture away from the baby, andi nto the absorbant core. And they are customizable, you can stuff them with an extra insert or two for more absorbancy. And they are way more comfy than a paper diaper. :)

We had the same problem with our son. We just moved him up a size at night. Kept him in 3's during the day and changed him into a 4 at night. Good luck with whatever you choose to do :o)
