2 Year Old Getting Stuck Under Fitted Sheet

My nearly 2 year old son pulls half of his crib sheet off at night and then gets trapped under it. He wakes up panicking and unable to figure out how to get out from underneath on his own. Any suggestions? Here is what I have heard so far:

-Take out the sheet all together
-Tuck in a regular sheet
-Use a fitted sheet that secures to the crib somehow so he cannot pull it off. (I don't have a sewing machine, nor am I crafty. Can you buy anything like this?)

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. Turns out I just needed a new sheet like suggested. I had been rotating 3 sheets since he was born and didn't even think that they would be worn out!

You need new sheets! The ones we had were so tight I struggled to get them on the mattress. There is no way a child could have pulled them off. No need to get expensive sheets, either. Just try a new brand and see if it's tighter.

Get new sheets so that you know that the elastic isn't shot. Then go to bed bath and beyond and get these sheet clips that help keep sheets on the bed. Wonderful tool.

wow, im dumbfounded that your 2 yr old fits in a crib! dang, I must have huge kids. I think tucking in a flat sheet sounds like a good solution.

I got stuck under a tucked in sheet once, when I was 5, and I woke up and didn't understand why or how I was trapped and I couldn't breathe and it was terrifying. After I yelled for a while my grandma came and rescued me.

Try larger sheets, and tuck the fitted sheet way underneath, so he can't pull it out. Maybe you can pin both sides together under the mattress so the sheet is impossible to pull out.

Then don't use a top sheet.

What kind of 'fitted' sheets are you using? They don't sound fitted at all... is the elastic stretched out? The sheets we have are SUPERRR hard to get on and off, they're THAT fitted... time for some new sheets mama! That's scary!

Also make sure that your crib mattress is tight enough. The sheets should tuck under and the fit should be tight enough that the sheet cannot be moved by anyone unless the mattress is picked up.
