8 Year Old Hates Everything

Hello, I hope I can get some great tips for my 8 year old son. He hates everything! He hates it before he tastes or smells it. He will not try anything, when he does he puts it in his mouth and spits it out. It is such a battle and has become a huge problem. Well I guess I can say he loves peanut butter and jelly. But I dont feel he should get his own way and eat that all the time. Any suggestions?

Almost 6-Year-old Wants a Nintendo DS or a Wii

My almost 6-year-old has been pleading for a Nintendo DS or the Wii, like all his cousins and some of his friends have. My mother-in-law really wants to get him one for his upcoming birthday, but my husband and I are not sure we want him to have one. We're concerned that even if we restrict his usage of it, it will be addictive and he will be less interested in his usual activities --- reading, art, t-ball, scooter riding, music, imaginative play, etc. He's the usual energetic kind of boy but we love that he has a creative and...

Is Is ADD or What?

My 9 year old has recently been diagnosed with ADD. Since the end of her 2nd grade year she began getting notes and we had conferences about her daydreaming, talking, raising her hand to ask questions that had nothing to do with the discussion. This has gotten worse as she is now in 3rd grade and she would get a note at least 3 out of the 5 days of the week. She is loved by all and her teachers say she is so sweet and thoughtful but she would not focus, daydreams, she still asks off the wall questions at school and many times she just...

Tubes, Adenoids and Tonsil Removal

I am having a dilemma over what to do with my 3 year old. We just went to the ENT doctor today who said we should have tubes put in because of my son's problem with continuous fluid in the ears. He said they would remove the adenoids at the time if they need removed. I am positive they will need removed because he has had trouble breathing, especially at night, for awhile now. He mentioned his tonsils as well, because they are very large (they touch, and are rated at 4 on a scale of 1 to 4). I am very nervous to have his tonsils...

Hi ladies! My 6 year old started complaining about severe stomach pain in the middle of her belly two nights ago. She didn't eat dinner and was really tired. She fell asleep so I figured it was just a virus. She woke up at 5:30 that next morning (yesterday) in terrible pain and with a fever. She didn't want to walk, couldn't stand up straight well. We went to the ER and she had a temp of 101, pain that went down to her right side and the doctor immediately started talking about appendicitis. He had her sent out for an ultasound but said...

Private Schools for ADHD & School Screenings for Autistic Spectrum Kids

Wow, where do I start with this question. First a little background. I have a 7 year old girl who was diagnosed with ADHD in December. She is now on meds that has helped a lot but I think still needs some tweaking. She is now able to at least sit at her desk in public school for a short period of time and know that she has a task in front of her to do. Her teacher says that she is doing better but still needs a lot of reminders to complete a task (before she wouldn't even start a task). The school is wanting our authorization to have her...

Obsessive/compulsive/worry Type of Personality in a 6 Year Old

Hi everyone. I'd like to start by saying that my 6 year old is such a pleasant, beautiful kid. Over the past several months, we have noticed the worrying get out of hand. We have had to pull him out of activities due to his little fear of bodily injury. He was losing sleep anitipating when the next activity was going to be and would count the days. We felt it wasn't worth all that anxiety and decided to take him out and telling him (we didn't quit), but it was his choice when he will be ready....giving him control. As I have been...
