How to Throw a 3 Year Old a Birthday Party?

I don't know how to throw my daughter her 3 year party (October 25th). The last two years have been close family only, and I was fine with that. But since my B-day in mid-August, Arden is running around singing happy birthday to herself almost every day...the time has come. Thing is, all of the 1,2,and 3 year old parties I've attended have been for both parents and kids (and I mean BOTH parents). These are typically held in the late afternoon/eve, and invlove lots of alcohol, the guys gathering to themselves, and the moms taking care of...

My 4-Year-old Constantly Wants Me to Play with Her: Advice?

Hi, Just wondering how other moms have responded to their young kids when they want you to play with them. Lately my 4-year-old daughter is constantly asking me to play with her (usually pretend-play), and gets upset when I have to do other things like housework. She seems to have lost the ability to entertain herself, and it's driving me a bit crazy. She has a younger brother (19 months), but he's too young to really play with her the way that she wants to. Any ideas on what to do?

Need Air Travel Tips for Traveling with 4 Year Old

My husband and I are traveling to Washington D.C. with our 4 year old daughter to see his mother for Thanksgiving. I haven't flown since '94 and this is my daughter's first flight. I need any advice that will make things go smoothly at the airport for check-in and security and for the flight. I know we'll have to take the car seat as well as our umbrella stroller. She'll need a stroller since we'll be spending all day at the museums and walking back and forth from the Metro stops and I know she'll get tired of walking.

2 Yr Old Afraid of Shadows...

Lately, my DD, who will be 2 next month, has been talking about shadows and how she is afraid of them. My husband and I used to make shadow puppets when she first discovered shadows (about a year ago) and she never seemed bothered by them. Now, she talks about being afraid of the "big shadow." I have tried to show her how shadows are made, even point out what is making shadows (our bodies, the plant, her bed, the dog, etc) and she seems fine, but when it's bed time, she acts afraid. I try to reassure her that there is nothing to be afraid...

Seeking Advice Regarding Traveling on a Plane with My Toddler Son.

HI to all moms and moms to be. I would like to seek some advice for anyone who had the experience of traveling with their toddler on a plane.I was given an opportunity to visit my mom who has been sick in the Philippines. My family there has not seen my son since he was born. We will be leaving about a month from now and I will be traveling alone with my toddler for about 18 hours with 1 stopover on the way there and 2 stopovers on the way back here. We will be staying there for 3 weeks. Does anyone know if I have to bring my own car seat...

Birthday Present for 4 Yo Girl

Hi, I'm in the midst of trying to find a present for my friend's daughter who will be turning 4 years old this summer. Her daughter loves dresses, princesses, barbies, etc. The hard part about buying her a present is that she seems to have so many toys already (e.g. princess dress up clothes, barbie dolls, purses, barbie cash register, toy laptop, barbie tricycle/scooter, tea party set, books, DVDs). Any ideas?

How to Further Challenge My Gifted 3 Year Old

My daughter is 3 years old and is very gifted in the area of letters and reading. Before she turned 2 years old she surprised one day. She pointed to a letter in a book and told me what it was. I never knew that she could recognize her ABC's-only say them. Then, I asked her what another letter was and she told me that one also. I randomly asked her what the letters I was pointing to were and she almost knew the whole alphabet. So from there on out I would test her and ask her what certain letters were out of signs, newspapers,etc....

Am I the ONLY Mom Who Didn't Send Her 3Yo to Preschool?

Haha. It seems like everywhere I turn, all the 3 YOs are in preschool already. I have a LOT of friends and family back home with kids the same age as my DD, and every. single. one. of them are in preschool. I have actually gotten quite a few snarky comments from them when they find out my DD isn't. (Which immediately stopped when I posted a video of my DD reading a story by herself. Lol.) Don't get me wrong... I think preschool is a great program, and I don't have anything against sending your younguns to school at this age... But as...
