My girls are almost 3 and 9 and they both love them! I don't buy the accesories, but my daughter has a large play barn. They put pillow cases in it and pretend that the zhu-zhus are a family (they sell baby zhu-zhus now), and have a blast! Just watch it with the hair! Those wheels don't stop spinning if they get caught! We havn't had an issue with it, but just a warning. For $10, I'd say just get her one or two. Not a huge cost.

My daughter got three of the little rats for Christmas last year from various relatives and my husband and I bought the little house and a couple of the attachments for them to run around in. She played with them for about a week and then stopped. She still plays with the house though. She puts marbles in it and rolls them through the connecting tunnel.

Also, when they turn on, those wheels go and don't stop unless the button is pushed again so my little girl picked one up while it was still running to give it a hug and the wheel caught up her hair and just kept going and going like it was crawling up to her head, winding her hair tighter and tighter into the gears. We had to cut it out. She never hugged it again and that was about the time she stopped really playing with them.

The extra accessories were mostly a flop. We got the wheel that they run in and if more than one try to use it they get stuck. The swirly slide is just awful because it let's the little things escape into the house! Any addon that allows the zhu zhu get out of it's self contained little area is bad news. They will go find the carpet and get hair and fur caught up in their wheels which will break them. They'll get stuck under the couch. The'll get LOST. The cats will find them and try and eat them.

They are really cute but if I had to do it again I'd just skip it and get my kid a wooden marble run.

I would pass on them if given the chance again. My daughter just HAD to have them (this past Christmas). So Santa brought them, as well as a couple additions from Grandma. She has 5 or 6 pets, the entire hampster house, tubes, tunnels, balls, etc. Seriously, we drove ourselves crazy trying to get everything she had on her wishlist. And where are they now? Stuffed under her bed collecting dust. The "fad" lasted a couple weeks, some of the pets stopped working (certainly NOT from over use)...just a waste of money in my opinion.

Christmas is so far away. Unfortunately by then she is going to want a new toy and the constant Zhu Zhu ads will have diminished along with your daughter's desire to own one. At three they change their minds constantly. And if the fad of Zhu Zhu pets has diminished and she is still interested then the toys probably will be pretty marked down in price.

My grandsons(six of them) love them! They have had them for a while and they all still work..... you can't run them on carpet because the fuzz will
make them not work. Now they have Rock Star ones and Kung Fu ones!
The rock star ones have mohawks! The boys don't play with them everyday
but they do love them.. they have them on their shelves and will play with
them almost everyday. The also have almost all of the accessories too.
Hope this helps! L. Nana of 6 boys

Well my daughter loves hers. I wouldnt let her get one when they first came out because they had all those concerns about too much bad metal in them. I forget which metal. Anyway after all that my ex went and bought one for her anyway. She still loves it.

Much like most toys, my kids played with them at first and then, not so much. I would be cautious with a younger child as the back wheels are sharp and can easily get tangled up in hair especially if long.

Before there werw zsu zsu pets, there were battery toy hamsters...they don't make sounds or back up like the zsu zsu's, just go straight. Our local Deals store has them for $5 with the ball like this (but you could order one of these from amazon if you have other things to order)
http://www.amazon.com/Hamusuta-0231-Happy-Hamster-Ball/dp...

http://www.amazon.com/Westminster-Happy-Hamster-Wheel-Run...

if you only use them in the ball/wheel and not on the floor with hair/dust they last pretty long. Ours died and my daughter got a zsu zsu for her birthday to replace it. It's cute...makes cute sounds etc, but we won't be buying any of the accessories. You cam just let it run on the floor and it will avoid obstacles etc.

You should read the article posted on Mamapedia about "The Fur Berry Dilemma". Don't give into the mass marketing and peer pressure - they're a waste of money.

my 7 yr old girl got one for Christmas...had to have it! shes played with it maybe 3 times and when it says DO NOT GET NEAR HAIR it is the truth. her friend put it next to her shoulder and it snatched a good bit of her of her hair out. So maybe a 3 yr old would be better with something else because it really hurt and she was like 7.

My girls got them for their bday and they liked them for a few days but they stopped working (they only make noise now but don't move around). Maybe by Christmas something better will catch her attention! If she's still asking by then, I guess it's worth getting one since they're only about $10.

My son got one for Easter. I decided that if he still played with it by his birthday, several months later, we would buy accessories. It is now a cat toy!

We got my older daughter one for her birthday. It quit moving in three days. She bought another one with her birthday money. She is 7. She lost interest in less than a day. My three year old kind of likes it though. However, after a week we are on our third set of batteries. I am not impressed. The houses and things are fairly expensive when you start buying several of them. You might get her a pet or two, but I don't know about the rest.

umm....it depends. I bought my 3 year old two last Christmas and she played with it for about a week. Now they both still make sounds but one no longer runs. I think she would play with them more if I had all the accessories, like the car, wheel, houses etc. But that gets really pricey. I only ever got her the ball for them to run in. Again she thought it was fun for a out a week or so but then she got bored with them pretty fast. Maybe just get her one.....the actual Zhu Zhu isn't that much money (like $5) and then if she really likes it and plays with it a lot you can spend more and buy more accessories.

great question. these were all the rage in my sons kindergarten class, i didn't let him get one, but this summer he has done enough chores to earn one, for $10 i figure it was worth the chores. my concern is how long they last. i'll let you know in a few weeks. I'll be looking to see what others say, especially if the little tunnels are worth it.
