Would like to Buy a Home, but Not Sure Where

Hello Moms...and Dads"
I am looking to take advantage of this buyers market in hopes of paying less for a mortgage than I do in rent. I currently live in the Downtown Detroit area and am a Detroit Die Hard, but with all the issues here I think it's time I go elsewhere for better schools, insurance rates and services for the taxes I'll be paying. I work for Wayne County and would prefer that my tax dollars be used to secure my employment...hopefully. However, if anyone knows of great areas outside of Wayne County with great schools and the taxes are reasonable, I am willing to look in other counties as well. My main concern is school districts and diversity. I have an eight year old boy who currently attends a pretty good school in the downtown area, but as with everything in Detroit, it's changing for the worse and I have to pay for after-school care. I know there are areas where I would get more bang for my buck, recreation centers, school buses, etc. I recently learned of a Good Neighbor Next Door Program in Grosse Pointe Woods where Wayne County and City of GPW employees receive a 15% discount on purchases of homes owned by the city. If anyone is aware of any other programs/grants, that would be useful as well.
Thank You,
T.

Hi,

We live in a lovely home in Southfield that we are trying to sell. On the corner of our block is a great elementary school and on 10 mile, there is a great middle school. Our home is 1500 square feet and has a full finished basement and 1/2 of land. Deer even wonder in once in awhile! Email me if you are interested at all. I think your son would flourish here. We are 1 mile from 10 mile and Telegraph and you can get around to all places quite quickly. My email is ____@____.com R. :) Our price is 129,000 right now and we can go as low as 127,000. This has been our family home for 29 years and it is an ideal place for living with children.

T.,

I know you're feeling all too well as it has been my goal to take advantage of this market as well. I'm a single mom of two, and I put the brakes on actually doing it myself because of job stability right now. However, I want to let you know that Redford has really nice homes that are usually ranch and some bungalows. The school district is recommendable and the service is as well (as far as police, recreation centers, snow removal and so forth). My best friend and her husband has lived in Redford for about 7 years and I honestly don't think she'll ever move.

At least then you can keep your money in Wayne County as you specified. I was a Detroiter too (DIE HARD) to the bone until my house was broken into and dispatch told me "what you want me to do?" when I called for them to send out the police. I walked in and they were still there! So that was the icing on the cake for me! I never lived in that house or Detroit again! I'd love to go back but it needs to get better. Though it can happen anywhere, (if you look at the news you see it happening everywhere) I wouldn't mind coming back when it's better. But check Redford out, and if you're looking to go across into Oakland county Oak Park has what you're looking for and Southfield does as well. I don't know the distance you're willing to go, but I also have a good friend that purchased a house in Canton. Beautiful house with a great neighborhood surrounding with all of the services you specified. Look around, if you need assistance Diane Kiellian is a great realtor & her number is ###-###-####. I'm still getting things from her even though I'm waiting, and she'll inform you of grants and everything.

Best of luck!

A

Wyandotte is an excellent city to live in. The downtown area of Wyandotte is so quaint and the city is very peaceful. The schools are also very good. :) Good luck.
