My son has white spots on his toungue from the formula we are giving him. I forgot what it is called, but we have gave him water but it is not working. We even wiped his mouth with a soft towel and it started to bleed a little. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you moms for all of your help and helpful suggestions. I had a doctor's app yesterday, but the office was out of power. I went to the healthfood and got a infant culture that is used in yogurt and the thrash is going away. Thank you ladies, I will take him to the doctor when the office retains power.

I agree with everyone else, it sounds like thrush. My son had that. A simple medicine from the Dr. will take care of it. Not to worry, it's common, and easily treatable. Good luck!

Sounds like thrush, you will need to take the baby to the peds office and get some gention violet (spelling).

I agree that is sounds like thrush and will only go away with treatment from a doctor. It is not necessarilay from the formula, may breastfed and bottlefed babies get it. It is common and typically does not cause serious problems, but can make eating uncomfortable for the baby. If you are breastfeeding and you develop it on your nipples, they will appear very pink/red and feel painful and burn when you nurse. You will need to treat your nipples with medication too. Definitely see you baby's doctor to get it taken care of.

Sounds like thrush (same thing as yeast and candida) to me too. There are natural remedies that have fewer undesirable side effects. You can use Gentian violet- don't remember dosage, your doc should know. Nistatin can be prescribed if you want to go that route.

If your babe has been on antibiotics that is a likely cause of the thrush. Be sure to boil anything babe puts in their mouth- pacis, bottles, toys, etc, at least daily until the yeast is gone. Good luck!

Hi C.,

This sounds maybe like thrush? Kind of like a yeast infection in the mouth. My daughter had it once when she was an infant and it's treated with a medication though I forgot the name of it. I'd get him in to see your pediatrician and make sure that you boil all of his bottle nipples and pacifier and pretty much anything that has come into contact with his mouth since this began. I don't know if your also breast feeding but if you are, be sure to mention it to the doctor because I beleieve you can get it as well. Good luck! If it is thrush don't worry too much about it. From what I understand it's fairly common in infants and doesn't pose serious risks but you definitely want to get it treated sooner rather than later. Once I got the medication for my daughter it was gone fairly quickly.

without seeing him, I agree it's probably thrush. Nystatin is the medication you want. or another antifungal. DO NOT give him antibiotics!! It will make it worse. If you are nursing, you can get it too. Not all that uncommon--doctors see it all the time. You didn't say how old he is, but if he's eating solids, yogurt with live active cultures can help prevent this in the future.

Sounds like Thrush. The doctor will prescribe Nystatin to give him orally a few times a day. If you are breastfeeding, you will also need to be treated. Make sure you boil all bottles and pacifiers until everything is gone! Good Luck!

I agree with the other two mom's. My daughter got it not when she was nursing but at two. But be careful. If he can suck his thumb or any other fingers it can spread there too. Definately go to the doctor and get the medicine. It will clear up in a few days.

What your son has is trash. My daughter had that when she was about a month old. I took her to her doctor and they gave me medications to clear the trash off her tongue.

It sounds like you are referring to "Candida" but without seeing him it is difficult to know for sure. If it is indeed Candida, I would suggest NOT giving him antibiotics or any prescription drugs. My midwife suggested ACV. You can go to a health food store or Organic store and find "Organic Apple Cider Vinegar." Dilute it with boiled water and wipe the tongue with a paper towel saturated in the mixture. Wait for it to cool. Also, nursing should help. Make sure to keep your breasts clean as if it's Candida, you probably have it too. A couple tsps. of Organic ACV will help you as well. If it doesn't clear in a couple of days it may be time to take him to a Naturopath or a Ped that won't push drugs on you. I've never known any baby to get better with medication.

All the best.

have you taken him to the dr. It sounds like Thrush. A lot of babies and kids get it. The mouth can bleed with it. If it is his formula I would take him off of it. What kind of formula is he on? It could be a number of things. Is he eating ok? No matter what it is I would disenffect your house. I don't like to use bleach so I use Germacide from Shaklee, it is safer for your kids and since I started using it my kids and daycare kids aren't as sick as before. If you have any questions please let me know.

My son had the same thing, and I thought it was his formula also. It wasn't it was thrush. Alot of neborns get it, it's some kind of yeast infection in their mouth. You'll need an antibotic to clear it up.

Thrush Mouth. Not to worry! My baby girl had it and it is not painful, just yucky to look at. Immune system is compromised but can be fixed quickly. Talk to doctor and look online. Again, not a big deal. Good luck!
