We like to either head NW to Mendocino/Little River or south to Pacific Grove/Monterey. We always stay in a nice B&B. We prefer the smaller towns were we can just dink around town or do nothing at all. We haven't gone to a B&B in years. Thanks for planting the seed, perhaps I ought to plan a nice, romantic getaway with Hubs!

Love Cambria. A day spent at the Hearst castle, a palace built for love. Great beach front inns. Very romantic.

Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur. The decadence, the peace and quiet, the amazing food, and price tag are worth every penny....at least once in a lifetime.

I may be awful... my favorite romantic getaway is a beautiful break to surf, bonfire on the beach, and cozy little house to shower off in front of... grilled steaks and cold beer.. before tumbling inside. For said purpose, I was usually at Coronado... but a hundred places fit that bill.

Catalina Island is great. Avalon is so small you can explore the whole place and still have time and energy for mind blowing sex. You have to take a boat (catalina express) out of Dana Point or Long Beach.
Also consider a couples spa day at La Casta Resort in San Diego County
Laguna Beach is quaint with lost of great resorts, shopping, art galleries.
I also have to second Carmel.

Mendocino. We went there for our honeymoon. Albion River Inn is really romantic and has a great restaurant next door.

Our favorite romantic getaway is Carmel Valley, CA. The weather, the scenery, the wineries, the ocean.... The list goes on and on. My hubby and I have spent many anniversaries and even some family getaways there, and will enjoy many more
