Ok, I have seen this question many times, and didn't read the answers. I guess I should have, but I mainly have wood floors except a few places, well my child threw up in one of the rooms with carpet, got the stain out, but the smell is a different story....YUK!!!! Any tips on removing the smell? Thanks Moms!
I had that problem just recently! PetSmart sells a spray-on product which contains enzymes. I'm not a scientist, but somehow, these enzymes break down the "matter" remaining in the carpet and eliminates the smell. It worked on dog messes and human vomit for me.
I've found the BEST EVER solution to carpet stains and smells is a cup of hydrogen peroxide, a squirt of dish soap, and a tablespoon of baking soda. Mix together and pour on the spot...you can cover it with a towel or cotton rag, and let evaporate on its own. NO WATER! This works amazingly well, too, for cat urine, which is very, very difficult to get out of carpet.

Baking soda. Cover the "affected" area and let it sit. Depending on the amount of smell, you might need to do it a couple of times. The longer you let it sit the more smell it will absorb.
I would sprinkle plain Baking Soda in that area and let it sit for a day or two then vacuum.If you have a rug cleaner like a Bissel green machince use it first then let dry completely then do the baking soda.

Good Morning C., yeah it is yucky.. You might try sprinkling baking soda on it, work it down into the fibers a little and leaving it a while. I have used water & white vinegar spray also to get spoiled milk out of my car carpet. Used to go to a dairy farm for milk the gallon jug busted.. Ewwwwwwwwwwww

baking soda usually works pretty well. If that doesn't there is a product called sol-u-mel that will get out any odor but it is through a catalog company that I could order for you if interested.
Nature's Miracle pet cleaning enzyme should work. You have to soak the carpet all the way down to through the pad. It's made for cleaning up after pets (so available at pet stores), but it should work on anything organic.
