baking soda and water. You can also buy Matsenbacher's Protein Remover (sometimes at target or Home Depot). Target sells inexspensive mattress covers too.

This is going to sound crazy, but go to Petsmart and get some PetZyme! It's a spray that's full of enzymes designed to get dog and cat urine out of carpets. It works great on kid pee too!

I would use my steam cleaner with vinager. It may smell like a pickle for a bit you can sprinkle baking soda to absorb that smell. Then invest in a waterproof cover for it, that makes accidents easier to clean up and protects your matress too.

Nature's Miracle (found at a pet store).
Also, I've heard vinegar works...try it first.

Try sprinkling baking soda on the area and setting it in the sun if possible - if that is not possible = there are "urine out" sprays they make for the strong odor of CAT URINE at the pet store - we have used this on people pee pee! It works great!

Kids'n'Pets...or some other enzymatic cleaner that breaks down the uric acids and ammoniums (not to mention other biologicals) into inert componets. You really DO have to soak it though.

The other possibility is to steam clean it with a "pets" type steaming solution. It tends to work best though if you use an enzymatic cleaner...let that dry and then a few days later, steam clean it.

You'll need to do all 6 sides, don't forget. And this is a week long process (of soaking, drying, steaming, drying)...if it's not just a single accident, but a situation many months in the making. Even if you own a steam cleaner you're probably looking at 40 bucks.

In the future a waterproof mattress cover can save you a lot of work and headaches. They have the high end kind that allow air through, but not anything liquid, and are silent... or the old-school loud plastic type.

Good morning R. :)

When my dog was new to our family .. he used to pee on MY bed. He's a big dog, so there were BIG messes. One of my neighbors was a home health aide and she told me she used diluted bleach to clean urine from mattresses. She'd soak it,sop it up with a towel, let air dry and if not dry enough by the evening, just flip it. Worked great for us.

Good luck!

I use Nature's Miracle from any local pet store. It has an enzyme that eats up the bacteria in the urine...which is what causes the smell. I use it frequently on the grout in the bathroom, etc... where my little boy is messy when going.

I used to steam clean my mattress and it worked out pretty well. A carpet shampoo machine as well. The only draw back is that it takes approximately three days to truly dry, you have to set it outside to air dry. I hope this helps.

Human or puppy? The pet sections/ stores sell pleasant scented (apple for example) sprays to eliminate dog urine from carpets -- so dog doesn't pee there again. I imagine they'd work on mattress too -- give it time to dry. Also you may want to dilute w/ h2o and sprinkle w/ baking soda -- then vacuum it up out of mattress.
