My 13 year old daughter is very slim and active. she is just now getting to be 100 pounds. she plays softball nonstop and its now track season too. she hasen't gotten her period yet at all. i got mine at 11. she is now having bad stomach cramps and her back hurts too. the cramps are low near her pelvic area. this has been happening for three days now and i think it just may be her period comeing in. ive given her midol and ibprophen but nothing seems to help. Is this a sign her period is comeing in? i have contacted my doctor and he said its just normal for a girl like her to be hurting like this when her period may come in.

What can I do next?

It could be pms, or it could be a bladder, kidney or UTI. I would have her go in and have her urine tested. Then I would let her talk to the doctor. My 12 year old and I just did this because she had questions about her body and while I knew the answers I wanted her to be comfortable to speak to her doctor about it and to get a medical opinion instead of just a lay persons.

I think this is a sign she should visit the doctor.

Mine never came until 14 and there were no "warning signs" either.

Three days of cramps and back pain with no aide from pain releivers and you have not consulted a doctor? Please give the doc a call.

It might be. My daughter started her period 3 years ago and has NEVER had cramps, so each person is different.

If midol and ibuprophen isn't helping... that's a bit concerning on the first run. Have you tried a heating pad?

You say "stomach cramps" but if she's really having "stomach" cramps then this doesn't sound like period cramps which are usually lower.... between the pelvic bones.

I might suggest you call her Dr to rule out any sort of infection or PID.

It's time to go to the doctor. I had no cramps or any indication when my first period arrived at age 15. Yes, 15. Like others have said, she may have a UTI, etc. I'd get her in to the doc today. Good luck.

Maybe it's not about a period. I'd get her into the doctor and have her checked out, without just assuming that it has anything to do with her period.

Good luck!

According to our pediatrician it makes no difference when we got our's. My oldest got hers when she was 11 & I hadn't gotten mine until I was just around 15. I was however very thin & athletic though. As far as the cramping & all, my guess would be that this may be an indication of things. Best of luck to you!

Get a warm pack, for her to put on her stomach or back.
Or try Aleve.
For some people, this works better than Advil.
Or have her soak in a nice relaxing tub.

Or why can't the Doc just have her come in for an appointment? To rule out anything else it could be?
This seems common sense to me.
