What type of sunscreen do you use on the kiddos? I have used several different kinds on my 2 year old son and most give him a bumpy rash....it isn't a red rash but when I touch his arms I can feel small bumps like clogged poors. I make sure he gets a bath every night so I am getting the sunscreen off at the end of the day. I dealt with this last summer and it took me months of no sunblock to get rid of the bumps. Now it is starting all over again this summer. Aveeno Baby has been my best option but that still gives him the bumps, just not as badly as the others. I don't know what to try next. I hate to keep spending money on tubes of sunblock which still cause more bumps. Thanks for your help!
ETA - The bumps are definitely not there when we aren't using sunblock. It probably took me until November to completely get rid of them but prior to starting sunscreen in the past couple weeks there were no bumps there. I lotion my son nightly after his bath so I would definitely feel them.
Melaleuca's Sun Shade 30 SPF lotion and/or Sun Shade 45 SPF spray. I use the lotion too, while my husband uses the spray. It is light, effective, not greasy, blocks both UVA and UVB rays, and safer than many others which has harsh chemicals. It is great for the whole family.
Another vote for Vanicream! Neither of my kiddos could tolerate anything else before age 5. Good luck!
A dermatologist recommended Blue Lizard Baby sunscreen to us when my first was a toddler. We have been using it since (2 more kids later...) and love it. Never had a sunburn!
Do yourself a favor and get some UV-blocking shirts and pants. That way you only have to put sunscreen on his arms and legs.
Any mineral only sunscreen works for us, right now we use Neutrogena Pure and Free Baby or California Baby.

We use coconut oil for sunscreen. My 3yo son has only had sunburn once (this past weekend, when my husband didn't properly apply and left areas uncoated). Our peed even mentioned his surprise at a summer appt, that our son was the first one he'd seen all summer without tan lines. Its amazing stuff.
I've used both Blue Lizard and Vanicream. I like them both for preventing sunburn but I like the way Vanicream goes on better. Its a bit less sticky. Neither give my kid any skin reaction. Good luck!
we use california baby or badger. you can find them on amazon, sometimes target and whole foods. a bit pricey but they have great coverage. they now say you need to use one witheither titanium or zinc oxide.
We use Badger or California Baby. I have also used the Coppertone Spray (doesn't have parabins or phalates) on his head to protect his scalp. But we've also had very good luck with the UV blocking shirts/hats, like you can get from One Step Ahead. And I don't put sunscreen on him unless we are going to be out a lot.
Are you sure it's the sunblock "causing" the bumps? Or could the bumps be there and being made more visible? My son had Keritosis Pilaris when he was little and that used to happen (mostly on his upper arms and thighs).
I use a powder sunscreen that actually works great-it is pricey, but lasts a long time and is worth the money. It is called ColorScience mineral powder (I use it too). It is especially good on the face and neck where I have a hard time putting lotion without it getting in their eyes. Sometimes I use the spray on their arms and legs. Good luck!
PS-If your child is getting very warm when you go out, perhaps this is a heat rash?
I don't know where to find it, but I would look into a more all natural sunscreen. My daughter does fine with waterbabies or aveeno.
I would take him to a dermotologist and see what they think. He could be having a reaction to the sunscreen and or it could be another underlying skin condition as posted by another mom. He could have eczema or something else. They can recommend a sunscreen or give you a prescription for one or cream for the bumps on his skin. I would do this before you waste anymore money on sunscreens.
I use Neutrogena Pure and Free Baby Sunblock on my daughter. Its the only one I found that doesn't give my daughter a rash. I tried quite a few before this. Its SPF 60

The SAME thing happens with my daughter. I just noticed it after using sunscreen for the first time for 2 days last week. She has small bumps all over her face. I'm thinking maybe I will take her to the dermatologist. Her face also seems really dry. She doesn't usually have sensitive skin, my son does, but he seems perfectly fine. I'd be interested to hear how you make out.
I use vanicream sunscreen. It was recommended by our allergist. My son gets the bumps too. The vanicream sunscreen works!
