Stroller for Child over 50 Lbs

I was going to suggest a Maclaren as well. Mine is an absolute workhorse, and while my oldest hasn't topped 50 lbs yet, I have no doubt my Mac will be able to handle it.

Ooo - coolness. I did a quick Google on "stroller weight limits" and found out that at strollers.com you can sort by type and weight limits: http://www.strollers.com/

Just use the left side bar to sort "strollers by capacity", select single, and then scroll *way* down on the left to sort by weight - they show 116 strollers in the 50-70 pound range, and 30 in the 70 pounds or more range.

The best bet would be to go to a wheelchair place because they will also specialize in pediatric strollers or ask around and see who would be the best to get the stroller. I am a physical therapist and it would definitely be beneficial to continue with a stroller but it is hard to find in a typical store but someone who specializes in pediatric wheelchairs and strollers will be able to help. If you live in texas close to Abilene I can give you the number to someone who is really good and can definitely help.

Maclaren Techno XLR would fit the bill. It goes up to 65 lbs. It's a little pricy at $350, but I just purchased a 2008 model on www.babydealz.com for about $275. Only difference from 2009 are some of the color options. I received it yesterday and have inspected it thoroughly. It's in excellent condition. All other Maclarens are recommended up to 65 lbs. You can see one at Baby Earth in Round Rock.

There are other brands that are appropriate for the weight, but none as compact as Maclaren that I have found.

I don't know of any over 50lbs, I have always used the umbrella strollers.. maybe just keep looking at those. And I'm so sorry that you are worried about hateful comments, I think this website should only be for encouragement. And I personnally have two girls 7 & 9 who would love to be able to stay in strollers forever.. so don't get discouraged. God Bless.

I have a MaClaren (probably not spelling right but I don't want to go look at it in the car). It is their umbrella stroller and I love it. I bouhg tit for the same reason. Quick trips into places. I believe it holds up to 75 pounds but I am sure you could check for sure online. It folds up small and can be left in the car without being in the way. I got it at Costco for around $100. Bless your heart sweet mommy- I have a ADHD/Sensory Integration 6 year old at home and know exactly what you mean about "issues" when it comes to a stroller. Try the Jeep brand of umbrella stroller. I know they sell them at HEB. Take a trip to Babies R Us they will have the knowledge of them and you can see what you want and then either buy on line or whatever. Good luck and don't forget to take some time to take care of you!

We have used our Baby Jogger for everything. Our 5 year old was 66 lbs. and it was great. It also worked in the snow and ice in Colorado. We bought it at Sun and Ski Sport. My son and husband would run from our house to downtown, with my son in the stroller, every weekend so we used it alot.

We have a VERY tall 4 year old daughter who likes to lay down. We switched out our two "cheapie" strollers I call them for one great Maclaren. We LOVE it! I did the research online to figure out which one I wanted and then searched the city to find one for my daughter to actually sit in. We went thru two styles before we found the one we LOVE. It had to recline and had to be tall enough for my 6'5" husband to push without kicking the wheels all the time. Once we settled on the style I searched the internet for the cheapest price including shipping!

We purchased the Maclaren Techno XLR (ours is an older model) But WE LOVE it and so does our daughter!

PS My daughter also needs to be in the stroller for EVERYONE's safety!

We have a Maclaren Volo that we've been VERY happy with. (We actually have two of them, and just use an attachment kit when I need a double.)

The friends we go to Disney with recommended it. Their son sounds like yours, but he's 6, and probably weighs closer to 65 or 70, now.

When I purchased ours, I told the salesman about them, and to further the demonstration, HE sat down in it, all 230 lbs of him. He explained that the 50lb rating (I think that's how high it goes) is for "shock weight" and as long as your 50lb child isn't JUMPING in it, these strollers will bear much more weight.

SO, on our last Disney trip back in May, with his little sister riding in his Volo, our friend's son got tired of walking. He rode in ours for a while, until my daughter got tired of walking, so we put her in his LAP.

Aside from not having a cupholder (we added a clip-on), you won't regret purchasing a Volo.

BOB, nuff said. BOB is the only stroller I know that can handle the weight of an older child and yours sounds like he needs a BOB!

Maclaren makes an industrial strength umbrella stroller but I can't remember the model name, you should be able to google it. I believe they are a British brand so expect to pay about $100 and invest some time in finding a local retailer. Or, you can always order online. I'd suggest finding their website and then going through whatever channels they give you to find a local retailer. or search for maclaren stroller on amazon. They have a lot fancier models for more money but I would keep looking until you find something around $100 and that will be the umbrella version. It will be slightly more for one with an awning. You could also check ebay, occasionally you can find them there. Good luck.

Hi I have a child with austim and ADHD. What help me was asking my physical therpist that my son sees. She gave me a book to look through and than I had to ask my doctor if insurance would pay for it. It was called swifty stroller i think you can google it and it will come up they are a bit pricey. I hope this helps.

How much do you want to spend? Look at One Step Ahead. THey tend to have some of the harder to find items. I would search company websites and see if they even offer a product to fit your needs.

My 9 year old still uses a stroller b/c he is legally blind along with other disabilities. His stroller is a Metro from a special needs catalog like Allibations (maybe even that one). It holds up to 100 lbs and we have had it for years now. He got it when he was 4 or 5 years old. It was quite pricey but the state department DARS paid for it. You might want to look into it since your son is legally blind. That's how we have our caseworker.

My son rode in a stroller when we went places until he was about 6 year old. He would take a few toys along to keep himself occupied while I did my shopping. He's over 7 now and often rides in the buggy when we go to the grocery store. I don't mind because I don't have to worry about him wandering off from me or start picking stuff out to buy.

Same for me, going to Disney and there is no way to even walk from the parking area to the front gate with a 4 year old who's over 50 lbs.
