Something Portable for Sleepin

I need ideas for something not to expensive that's portable for sleeping. My 2 year old is fairly tall for his age, he's outgrown the pack and play he usually sleeps in at my parents. He tosses and turns and likes to sleep in odd positions on the bed, so I'm not comfortable with a cot type bed. I think he'd fall off. There are no regular beds he's able to sleep in at this time. I found some things called ready beds (inflatable sleeping bags)but they're only for 3 and up (no side rails and a pillow type attachement, which I don't think will work with my son since he's not using pillows yet. There are some for 2 years (my first ready bed)but I can only find them in the UK, no one in the US seems to sell them. ..so I guess I need some other alternatives.

Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

If it's portable you're thinking of, a sleeping bag works great. When my daughter sleeps over at Gramma's, she brings her sleeping bag and sleeps on the floor on a puffy blanket underneith. She loves it and really, when kids are little, they can pretty much sleep anywhere. (they're not like us, waking up with pain if we sleep on the floor.) Having a sleeping bag is sort of a novilty for little kids anyway. Plus, you can get one that's a cool theme, spiderman or whatever, and you can even have them pick it out.

As far as a perminent solution, We put my daughters mattress on the floor (Less of a drop if they were to roll out), and eventually,...we added the box spring underneith. We will eventually add a frame to it. (We skipped the toddler bed entirely and opted for a regular twin mattress. We thought it was a waste of money for a toddler bed only to upgrade to a regular bed in a year anyhow.)

You can buy a nap mat like daycares use.

Otherwise a good ole fashioned sleeping bag works.

I never used a pack n play with my daughter she slept in her infant carseat and then a nice little bed on the floor wherever we were visiting.

Alot of people have 2 year olds in a bed with a bedrail and use pillows.

Usually if they're to big for a pack n play they're ready for a bed. I don't think there is really a in between other than toddler beds.

My kids loved sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag. Not expensive at all, and they said it was like camping. They have lots of fun designs for boys and girls, Cars, Spiderman, Princesses, Hello Kitty...Way too many to name, and I'm sure he would like it!

Good Luck!

Walmart has youth sleeping bags for $8.99 -- I would go now as I'm guessing their camping stock will grow thin as winter approaches. I know that WalMart has these as I just purchased one for my 2 year old (well, almost 2, his birthday is the 15th of this month) who outgrew the PacknPlay this summer! Hard to beat the price, but if you need to go even cheaper, I'd guess you could even put a piece of foam (rolled up for travel) on the floor and use blankets. Good luck!

I was just a Menards (of all places) and saw inflateable sleeping bags. I looked at this for my 2 yr old, too. I don't know the age appropriateness for these though. May be worth checking out. (Although it may be what you already mentioned above?!?!)

There are four different portable beds that I know of.
One is from Leaps and Bounds. Their website is www.leapandbounds.com and the sku# is 09661
Then Sensational Beginnings and one Step Ahead both have similar styles for the inflatable and the same one from Peapod Plus. Their websites are www.sb-kids.com and www.onestepahead.com
The Sku#'s for One Step Ahead are #13763 and #12734
The Sku#'s for Sensational Beginnings are T3111X and T54002X
I know what is is like to sleep with a toddler that tosses and turns when traveling, not fun. I tried getting her to sleep on the floor on a sleeping bag, but she did not go for that at all, she wanted up on the bed. Needless to say I didn't get much sleep that trip.
I hope one of these fits your needs.

I do day care, and when the kids have outgrown the pack-n-play (either because they're using a toddler bed and are pretty good sleepers at home or because they've tried to climb out), I move them to a sleeping bag on the floor. They each have their own, and I usually have a few blankets handy as well, in case it gets unusually chilly. I understand your hesitation to use anything up off the floor, just in case he falls off or something, but I've found the regular sleeping bags to work out quite well. I'm sure you can find them in a variety of places, but I got mine at Toys R Us, and they were pretty reasonably priced as well. Good luck!

Would an air mattress work for your family? Something like the aerobed? My son is all over the place in his bed when he sleeps and he has outgrown the pack-n-play. When we visited grandma and grandpa the last time they had an aerobed for him and it was great. Only a few inches off of the ground if he tumbled out, easy to inflate, and portable. They are not inexpensive, but I think well worth it if you travel a lot.
