Sling Recommendations?

I have an extremely bad back due to car accidents. It is breaking my heart, but I keep having to put my 7 month old down due to my back "locking up". Does anyone have good sling recommendations? I hear the Ergo is good, but we can't handle the price right now..anything reasonable and effective out there? Even a place to get an Ergo second hand? Thank you!
ps. I know about Pittsburgh NINO, but the dates for their meetings on the website are messed up!

What can I do next?

Hi S.,

There is a yahoo group where folks trade, sell and can buy all sorts of slings and baby wearing carriers, many of them are on sale or used. The name of the group is babywearingSWAP. Hope that helps.

If your baby is 7 months old, I would try a backpack carier. They are a little harder to get on yourself but if you have a table or even the back of your car, you can do it without squatting down to the ground. AND, they love being up so high. All 3 of my boys loved our backpack (and I was a Bjorn and sling mommy until they got too heavy.)

Try craigslist or ebay for a used one. I don't have a real expensive one....it was about $100 new....some can be hundreds.

Hi S.,

The Mai Tai slings are the best for relieving back pain/pressure. They tend to be more expensive. I carry the ones from Maya Wrap and they are great, but expensive. If you are looking for something less expensive you can try ebay. I also have hear of some local WAHMs who make Mai Tai's for closer to $50. Sorry that I can't be of more help.

Hi Sue...haven't heard from ya in awhile!!! As far as the sling, not to sure...but will keep an ear open for you. Your message caught my eye about the car accidents and your back problems as I go through ther same problem. I had a car accident (hit and run) on the Homestead Grays Bridge 18 years ago. I, as well, had the same problems with holding my son for to long, and can only imagine what you are going through with a second child!! Good luck finding what you need!! G. (from Munhall)
