Hey mama's and papas!! I've got some shrimp that I need to use up. And I have chicken.....I'm wondering....

Even though we don't buy into the Valentine's day commercialism - I would like to do something with the shrimp. Our neighbor is moving and she gave us things that won't "keep" in the move...so we have about 25 pieces of jumbo shrimp left. We made shrimp pasta primavera - the boys loved it.

So what tried and true recipes have you used that your family loves?

I can do alfredo shrimp....so if you have a twist on that - please share!!!

THANK YOU!!!

You can do dirty rice, chicken and shrimp.

I cook shrimp in a bit of butter, garlic salt and seasoning salt. Then let it cool and eat it like shrimp cocktail but it's got a good flavor!

We do angel hair pasta with parm cheese, italian dressing and shrimp.

Shrimp tacos - make like regular chicken or beef tacos.

How about a jambalaya? I have a really yummy crockpot recipe. I love the fix it & forget about until dinner recipes.

12 ounces of skinless chicken breast or boneless chicken thighs cut into 1 inch cubes
1 pound of sausage
2 bell peppers chopped
1 onion chopped
2 celery stalks chopped
3 garlic cloves minced
1 can whole tomates or diced which ever you prefer
1/3 cup tomato paste
1 can beef broth
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 tablespoon oregano
(I like using fresh use whatever you have on hand even if you only have like a herb mixture)
1 tablespoon tabasco sauce
seaon w/seasalt for taste
1 pound of shrimp
In a crockpot add it all together except for the shrimp cook on high 4 hrs then add shrimp & cook for an additional 30 mins
you can serve over rice or add rice to your desired consistency.

Here's one of my family's favorites (WARNING! This is NOT good for you, but it is oh-so-delicious) & you could absolutely toss in boneless chicken as well as shrimp:

2 jars alfredo sauce
2 cans petite diced tomatoes, partially drained
1/3-3/4 cup white wine (depending on your tastes)
1/2 sweet onion, chopped
4 oz. can sliced mushrooms, drained
1/2 lb. bacon

First I brown the bacon until crispy in a large, deep skillet. Remove & put on paper towels. In the bacon grease on medium heat (or, I suppose you could drain it out & add EVOO if you're a party pooper) cook the chicken if using & onions until just about cooked through. Toss in the shrimp & mushrooms & cook until shrimp just start to turn translucent. Add both jars of alfredo & cans of tomatoes, pour wine into jars & shake to get all of the sauce out & add the wine as well. Heat through (making sure the proteins are cooked through) & serve over pasta with crumbled bacon on top.

Yummm!!!

I love shrimp spaghetti. Angel hair pasta, olive oil, fresh tomatoes and chunks of real mozzarella, fresh basil, a little parmesan and garlic powder, toss the shrimp and chicken in there, serve with salad and warm bread!

What time are we eating?! ;)

I like to put olive oil in the skillet or wok with fresh chopped garlic, ginger, and asian garlic chili sauce. Let the oil absorb all the flavors, then toss in the shrimp and sautte until done, add noodles to the pan with a little pasta water and or white wine. Maybe toss in a little chopped parsely. It's fantastic. Makes your mouth sing.

Our favorite way to eat shrimp is to just toss them with a little olive oil and Old Bay, skewer them and then grill them for a couple of minutes on each side. Healthy, simple and very little clean up.

A gumbo?

Just google gumbo recipe. You can use both the chicken and the shrimp. I saw a good one! You can improvise on the recipe. Yum.

Toss the shrimp with butter, garlic and lemon juice (I guess that's scampi, right?) and serve it over pasta or rice. Or do a saffron broth based soup with the shrimp and serve it with crusty french bread. Or just gently boil the shrimp, cool them down and go to town with some cocktail sauce and lemon wedges for an appetizer and follow it with some fancy chicken dish (*chicken* alfredo, maybe?). I just had a pretty big lunch, but all of a sudden I'm hungry again...

I'll email you a list of WW recipes that my friend makes - same one who gave me the Cheesy Taco Pasta recipe. There are several shrimp recipes in it. Or also try Hungry Girl stuff - yummy and healthy!
