I am looking for a store where I can get fresh organic produce and food stuffs and also a place that may have more gourmet type ingrediants than a regular grocery has. We moved here from KC and I don't know the area well.

What can I do next?

There'sa famer's market downtown near 10th and Jones in the Old Market area. There's also one outside the Wild Oats at Village Point which is 168th and Dodge. There is a Whole Foods in Regency, which is right of Dodge at about 90th (near Westroads) and another Wild Oats at 78th and Dodge. Good Luck!

Also lots of Bakers and Hy-Vees out west have more extensive organic produce and healthier aisle selections, like you find at Wild Oats or Whole Foods or even trader Joe's

Hi R.!

I am sure you have already received info on the locations but I thought I would email you just in case. The Whole Foods is located in the Regency area which is about 100th & just south of Dodge. There are 2 Wild Oats - 1 is at Village Pointe (168th & Dodge) or @ about 80th & Dodge. There are also Farmer's Market downtown in the Old Market every Saturday & also in front of Wild Oats @ Village Pointe on Saturdays also.
Welcome to Omaha!

I'm not sure what area of Omaha you live in - but there is a Wild Oats at Village Pointe (168th and Dodge), and there is also one at 78th and Dodge. There is Whole Foods near I-680 and Dodge - back in the Regency Shopping Center.

The main reason I wanted to respond to this is that my husband and I were re-located to Omaha from the Kansas City area 3 years ago. It was a very tough adjustment, but now we love Omaha. We miss our families, but this really is a great city.

I agree with Maren's review...HyVee (at least the one at 170th/Q) has a pretty impressive organic/natural foods section! But nothing beats Whole Foods - I love that store. Now if only Omaha had a Trader Joe's and a Bristol Farms...I'd be in heaven! Thank goodness Costco is coming next year!

Dear R. A.,

Fresh, good tasting, unprocessed vegetables are hard to come by but I'm all about the farmers markets and fresh produce stands too. Hope this helps.

Farmer's Market: Village Point 168th & Dodge (Wild Oats parking lot)
[There's also a ton of roadside vegetable stands right now that carry great farm fresh produce]

Wild Oats: 78th & Dodge and 168th & Dodge

Whole Foods: 114th'ish & Dodge (Regency)

There are also some farms that are open to the public. Wenninghoff is one that comes to mind. It's located North of Dodge. Can't remember the address. Sorry.

Welcome and take care.

Blessings,
G.

Hi R.--
We just moved here from Boulder (I'm originally from KC) and I, too, have been going crazy with te lack of good grocery options. We are vegetarians and were spoiled in Boulder with WO, WF, and many local organic health stores. Thanks for posting this--I look forward to the responses, too! Pam
p.s. did you try the Farmer's Markets? I know there's one thru Oct in the old Market on Weds and Sats. Also, we get some wonderful free range organic eggs from a farm about 10 miles out of town (makes a nice drive).

There are two Wild Oats stores in town-- one at about 78th St. Just south of Dodge; The other in the Village Point Shopping Center (168th and Dodge.) The west side Wild Oats does a weekly Farmers' Market-- and there is another one in the Old MArket (about 11th and Jackson). Plus, there is a very large Whole Foods at 102nd and Dodge (Getting there is a little easier now that the Dodge construction is done in that area but it is still too easy to get confused by the signage.)

You are very lucky here in Omaha. The Old Market in the riverfront section of town has a farmer's market every Sat a.m. You have Wild Oats and Whole Foods if you don't mind the prices, but most fortunately, look for the roadside stands that are frequent in the area. One that is a constant is over in Council Bluffs, Lake Manawa exit, in the Southeast corner of the Menard's parking lot.

I think Whole Foods in Regency (just South of Dodge across from the Westroads Mall) has the largest and best selection of organic produce and gourmet foods.
