Second Baby Gift

Hi! I have several friends that are pregnant with their second baby (mostly those having the same gender as their first child). I was wondering if any moms of more than one baby have any suggestions for great "New Baby" gifts in this situation. I was wondering if anyone received something that they found particularly helpful/useful. All of my friends still have all their major gear from their first baby (strollers, high chairs, entertainers, etc..). Thank you so much in advance for any suggestions you may have.

What can I do next?

Having had two boys, even though my second had lots of really nice hand-me-down outfits to wear, I loved it when the new baby got a new outfit just for him to wear. Larger outfits to grow into were great too! A nice dressy outfit for getting professional photos taken in is nice to get as well. You are so thoughtful!

Diapers! You always need diapers. I make a really cute cake out of them. Other than that something for the mom to be is always nice. a massage, or food delivered after the baby comes, etc...was something I loved!

What about gifts that the momma can use?

Spring [maybe make this a two or three person gift] for a cleaning person for a month, babysitting for a month, gift cards for places that deliver [pizza, Chinese, etc...]

With my second, my friend threw me a pampering party. It was so nice to have the focus on me and get treated to some fun. I received a journal, a mug, an assortment of tea, a foot massager, a gift card to buy myself clothes(after-baby) and different bath sets and lotions. It was really awesome.

For the baby, I would say diapers and wipes. You can't go wrong.

My neighbor just had her third girl in four years... we all got together (6 of us) and did a basket of gift cards to local take-out places, babies r us, barnes and noble and a couple of "free babysitting" coupons- one from each of us.

They loved it b/c they didn't know what they needed for the baby, but diapers are always needed (Babies R Us card) and with three kids, a husband and company take-out was much appreciated. She used her coupons to take each of the other two someplace special and then to leave them all and go for a walk and coffee with her husband.

Each of us contributed what we were comfortable giving and she loved the gift!

Diapers and wipes! :) Or, a gift certificate to get her house cleaned/nails done, etc.

I am a first time mom of a 17 month old too. I agree with all the suggestions from the other moms... diapers, wipes, gift certificates, dinner etc.

But I especially like the suggestion to get the new baby a lovey, or some stuffed animal. The older sibling isn't going to want to share his/her lovey with the new baby. All kids are different and there's no telling which animal/blanket the new baby will adopt so it's great for the new baby to have a selection. My son really loved a little nap blanket from Angel Dear (google "Angel Dear lovey", you'll get a lot of hits).

Also, he had a book that he absolutely loved as an infant that I have never seen in any stores, only online. So we now give that as baby gifts for 1st, 2nd, 3rd children. "I Kissed the Baby" by Mary Murphy.

My first baby is 2. My second baby is 4 months old. Some of my FAVORITE gifts when I had my second were - meals brought to me after the baby was born, baby gear we didn't use the first time around (not having an Exersaucer wasn't such a big deal when I only had one kid - with a toddler and a newborn, it's a LIFESAVER!), and presents for my older daughter. I especially liked gifts that could keep her occupied while I cared for her new brother - a special movie, art supplies or books we could read while I nursed the baby.
You're such a sweet friend to be thinking about this!!

Someone did this for us when our first child was born and we do it for all our friends: They called and asked if they could visit and bring dinner; The brought us dinner and a case of diapers and then gave us a card with a gift certificate to our favorite restaurant! Who has the energy to cook with a newborn in the house? We loved it! If you're a good cook (I'm not) you could even make the first meal yourself which someone did for us also - hope this helps.

Baby book or baby photo album, music box for the baby's room, a special "lovey" or stuffed animal are good choices. A gift card is always useful, and if they're using disposables, they could always use diapers/wipes.
Happy Shopping!

I'm also pregnant with my second daughter and you can never go wrong with diapers and nursing pads! The nursing pads go inside the bra to keep the milk from going all over the clothes. You can also get gifts that they didn't have the first time around for example the diaper genie. If they didn't have one before maybe they could appreciate it now. Use the internet stores they are also a good source of ideas! Good luck!

For my second baby I loved the personal gifts- one of my favorite is my diaper wipe case with my son's name on it. it's small, but I loved that they thought of my son, and not just another baby. a gift that i have given people when their 2nd is a girl, is hair accessories and a pony tail holder. "what's in store" in merrick has an adorable one of a little girl and the clips go on her hair. You can also see if they are planning to bank their baby's cord blood. Viacord has a baby registry where you can put money towards it for their family. You can pass on this number to give them a savings of $100 or more- 888 758 5115 PEN #638- (it may actually be 800 instead of 888- i forgot).

Hi,
I'm pregnant with #2, I agree with the "something for the mom" gifts. i also have lots of stuff left from my daughter, but a few things that i would like to receive as baby gifts for #2 are: diapers, wipes, pacifiers, bottles or just bottle nipples (while the old bottles may still be good, the nipples are worn out), think of the more disposable baby items which are needed the first few months, but may no longer be around from baby #1.
These more practical things will sure make the mom happy, especially since baby #2 often means that families are on a more strapped budget.
If you are looking for bigger things, see if they will need a double stroller or a second crib.

When I had my second (although the opposite gender) someone gave me a hand print tower and keepsake boxes for first tooth, first curl and a personalized piggy bank. It was really nice to have something special that was just for my second. That is very thoughful of you!!!!

Hi W.,
I like to check to see if they have a registry anywhere. Mostly, Babies R Us or Target. It isn't hard to do, especially in secret. I find that most people do even with their second baby because maybe they saw something that they would like the second time around they didn't have the first time. I found, on my most recent friend who gave birth to her second son, on her registry a 3-stage booster seat by Summer. It is awesome and am thinking about putting it on my registry. There are also toys they might not have. I always loved receiving toys as a baby gift.

Diapers, either in a cute cake with some pacifiers and small baby items attached or in their grandest form - a huge box from BJ's or Costco or Sam's Club. Can never have too many diapers!

Hi W.. I have 2 daughters, 20 months apart. Now 17 and 16 years old. What I wanted most when I was pregnant with my second child was help with the first. lol My first helped alot with the new baby, and I think alot of that had to do with my mother. She told my 1 year old that the baby in my belly wasnt my baby, it was hers, so she had to help me to take care of her baby. And she did, and still does!! They have grown up as best friends, only in the past couple years they have started with sibling rivalry, but not nearly as bad as I have seen with other siblings.(just small arguments)
New clothes or maybe something they didnt have the first time around. Is there anything you can think of that you may have missed with your first?? or perhaps a double stroller,or a snugly (body carrier) depending on how old the first child is.? Diapers, baby wipes, new bottles, bottle brushes, new crib sheets, and bath towels, even diaper bags (they wear out also). These things are usually welcome, same as with the first child. Some things just need to be replaced with the second child!
Dont forget maybe something for the first child, so he/she doesn't feel left out when the new baby comes.
It's all about the care of the new baby, but the feelings of the first!!
good luck!

For my third child, everyone gave personalized gifts with his name on it, which I absolutely loved. Some ideas of what I got were a tote bag (from lands' end - love it!!), book case, step stool, piggy bank, receiving blanket, cuddle blanket.

I have 2 boys and 1 girl on the way and the one thing I always loved to get was "I am the little/big brother/sister" Clothes or bibs at different stages. Also dress clothes or nice outfits for pictures, I always hated to take pictures of them in the same outfit as the other was in. Gift card works, rain cover for the stroller, backpack diaper bag (always nice to have your hands free to handle the older children) Diapers, wipes, desitine, powder, shampoos, tylonal, motrin, gas drops, a new boppy cover, garbage bags for diaper pail, a new didgital thermometer, if the children are same sex different seasons, jackets, mittens, clothes for the season or even a gift card to their favorite store.

Good luck.

Hi W., I don't know if your friends have the baby glider.
It's wonderful and can be used for many months. It glides forward and backward and plays music. It can stay stationary as well. It's a wonderful gift. I've given a few and new Mom's and babies love them. D.

I've got the perfect solution. The "One Trip Tote"! It's a large, open, horizontal tote that any busy mom would love. I load it up with everything I need for the day and I just make one trip out the door. You can use it for going to school, shopping, games, laundry, pool, beach, on vacation (fits in a carry-on),party going, etc... so many uses! It's collapsible so you can keep it anywhere. It's gorgeous and sooooo useful. A way to go anywhere with ease and style. I get one for all my mama friends! Google it and check out the website. Good luck!
