Hey everyone..... I currently live in PA. My finance and I were thinking about relocating to North Carolina. He works for the Vanguard Group in Charlotte and can get transferred down there. We were thinking about moving to Concord or somewhere within the area which wouldnt make his commute far. Can you please tell me about the area..... types of people, things to do, crime rate. I have a one year old son so my biggest thing is that I need to live in a good school district.. Can anyone recommend a good school district? and a nice area to raise a family? Tell me how you really feel about the area! I need some advice i'm kinda hestitant about the idea of moving down there because I dont know anything about it and I wont know anyone down there. Please tell me anything that might be helpful in helping me learn more about where you guys live!

What can I do next?

Hi there. I don't actually live in Concord, I live in Mooresville, which is in Iredell County which is directly north of Charlotte off of interstate 77. We love it here - we moved from Ohio about 2 years ago now. I work in Uptown Charlotte and it takes me one hour to commute in daily. The schools up here are excellent and the taxes are low, which is why we chose to live here. The comments that everyone are saying are correct - the schools in Mecklenburg county are terrible and the property taxes are very high. Many people from my office do live in the Concord - University area and have a reasonable commute into Charlotte and love the area. The Concord-Kannapolis area is booming now and property is going to get much more expensive very soon as they are putting in a huge technology/bioresearch facility there. Homes sell very quickly. Good luck and email me if you have more questions!

We moved our four boys to Concord from Florida three years ago. We have since had a baby girl and this past year moved to Salisbury (about 20 min from Concord). We looked into Concord originally because we told the realtor we wanted to be able to sell quickly in case we didn't like NC. All our family is in Florida, but I love NC, our kids adjusted well and plenty of family things to do here. It only took a month to sell our house, and we made a great profit in the two years we lived there. We lived near the Speedway, off Pitt School road. Everything was close, grocery, mall, hospital.....I loved the school district (Cabarrus county), Charlotte school district (Mecklenburg County) is constantly on the news about failing State tests and how they are working on raising the scores. Also, from our understanding the taxes in Charlotte are more than Concord. I can give you the Realtors name and # if you want. He helped us find the house in Concord (while we were in Fl), then sell our house in Concord and buy the house we are in now in Salisbury. He is an older gentleman but very detailed about what you want and previews all possible houses for you to narrow them down to what you really want in a house, then shows you those houses. It saved alot of time for us.

I wish you the best and we really have enjoyed NC so far!

Yes I live in NC. I am 27 with 2 small children. I have a free playgroup that your more than welcome to join when you move down. This is a great area to raise your children. We have a historical downtown Concord that we love walking to the shops. The schools in Concord are great. We have malls, bowling alleys, movies, lots of places to eat, Wal-mart, Parks and lots more. The Comedy Zone is in Charlotte though so for stuff like that you have to travel to Charlotte which the crime rate is alot higher in. In Concord it is vastly becoming a housing development city, our population is booming. Surrounding cities are Harrisburg, Charlotte, Kannapolis, Mt. Pleasant (where I came from, great small town), need to know any specifics ask me and ill let you know.

Hey today I got a link from one of the ladies in my playgroup for schools, check it out:

C. is bordering a small town called "Harrisburg" - it's esentially where the Lowes Motor Speedway is located; there are several new neighboorhoods there, and it's in Cabarrus county so taxes are way less. I live on the Mecklenburg county side, but 3 miles from Harrisburg. I live in the University Area. My in-laws lived in a very large neighborhood that had a wide variety in housing and pricing, from townhomes to single family homes... they recently moved to Texas! The school for Harrisburg is WONDERFUL; MUCH better then CMS schools; and a lower teacher student ratio at that - also, the schools there are fairly new builds. A brand new elementary school was just built last year! RIGHT beside Rocky River Crossing - here's a link to the community site - and it has built in links to alot of other things in/around Harrisburg. http://www.neighborhoodlink.com/hburg/rrc/ Good Luck!

Hi J.,

I live in Charlotte and the schools here aren't great. But my best friend lives in Concord and works in uptown Charlotte. She moved there specifically for the school system. She loves the convenience and the schools. Everyone I've met there is very friendly and it's just outside Charlotte, so you get all the ammenities of the city without having to put up with all of the junk. This is a great area to raise a family and most people here moved here from somewhere else. I moved from the Boston area.

Good luck!!

Hello J.! My name is L. (Lacresha). My family and I relocated out here from CA this past July. My Husbands job moved us out here after closing their offices in CA. I chose to live in the Concord, Huntersville area because of the school districts. I have a 13 year old and a 2 month old baby and the school districts were very important to me. I think that Cabarrus County has the best schools around this area. My husband works down in Charlotte and his commute is about 40 minutes. The people that I have met so far are just great! I am really really happy about our move out here. I miss my family, but the people here bring you into thiers! I don't know much more about the community, but I would recommend the area.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with!
