Red Chapped Skin Around My 2Yr Old's Mouth & Under Her Nose, How to Treat IT!?!?

My 2yr old has had a running nose and has been outside off and on. She has been licking around her mouth and under her nose and now her skin is red, chapped, & painful. I have seen other children who have done this, but have never experienced it myself with any of mine. How do I treat this to make it heal and how do you keep a two yr old from licking it and making it worse?

What can I do next?

Aquaphor works wonders for chapped skin. I've used it for my son since he was 6 months old (he's 5 now) and it has always worked for us.

Aquaphor is made by Eucerin, so just look for it with their lotions. It is like Vaseline, but seems to be more water soluble.

Vitamin E oil is wonderful for healing my lips. Try putting a coating of vitamin E oil on it first, then cover that with Aquaphor. Obviously you want to clean it well before putting anything on it.

Lansinoh - it's the ointment nursing mothers use on their chapped nipples and works wonders. Put it on her nose/lips before bed, it'll be healed after a couple days. It works better than aquophor because it's thicker, and it's safe in case she swallows some.

I agree with the Aquaphor suggestion; you usually find it near the vaseline, either in the area with monistat and the like or with the first aid stuff.

Just be careful that this doesn't turn into impetigo. If she breaks out in red bumps that are open and maybe oozing, take her to the doc for some antibiotic creams. My daughter is 7 and still has issues with this.

Good luck!

Hi J.!! I use Renew and Lip Balm...they work great. They are also very safe and the best of nature and science so it doesn't matter that she's younger and will "eat" most of it off. lol Renew is probably the best thing to use for dry skin problems, etc.

Good luck!
