Do you think I should look for a boy doll for my son, or does it really matter if it's pink or boy or whatever? your thoughts?

What can I do next?

I just bought a doll for my 16 month old son on etsy.com. It is made of organic materials and is also good for teething. If you go to the site and enter dolls for boys all kinds of great homemade items will come up, much better than a store bought one and you probalby won't see another on like it!

My five year old has 2 dolls, one is a Diego and the other a boy Cabbage Patch Kid. He loves them. He also has a bunch of stuffed animals that he can't live without. I wouldn't go with a girl doll just because I thought it was better to have a boy that mine could identify with. My 18 month old boy has also started to play with them when his brother isn't looking!

I honestly don't think it matters..as long as your hubby isn't paranoid aboutthat type of thing.

We have a few dolls that were our's when we were growing up. Funny thing that mine are in prestine condition, my husband's are a mess. Our son likes both..

We also got a pink stroller at a garage sale.. ha ha !

Our #2 son would snatch the neighbor's doll and pull out its eyelashes (they were maybe 8 months old). I ended up making a doll for him with all sorts of learning details on the clothes, spending many hours on the project. He promptly used it for barter to get the eyelash doll back!

His daughter now plays with that doll so I made a girly outfit for it so it can be whatever she wants it to be.

I have two little girls, so I may be way off base. However, I wouldn't worry about getting a baby doll for your son unless he asks for one. In all the baby dolls we have in our house and have bought - I don't remember seeing any with "boy parts" (even at the store), so you may end up opening yourself up to explaining the difference between the p****** p**** that a girl has and a boy has. You don't say how old he is, so I'm not sure if your ready for that talk (we didn't get into it with our daughters until they were between 2 and 2 1/2 - but each house is different).

Go for it!

It's important for little boys to play with things like dolls and dress-up and for little girls to play with tools and blocks. As parents, we don't want to completely define gender roles in our children.

Having said that, my 2 year old son has two boy baby dolls and lots of dress-up hats (cowboy, policeman, fireman, etc.) He has a shopping cart that he races around the house like a maniac!

Boy will you get some answers to this one! :D I'd say Diego if you have a young boy. If your son is older, I'd say... I've never met a little boy that didn't turn a doll into a weapon!

Good luck!

My son likes to push the doll stroller, but I think that is simply because boys are drawn to wheels! I think it's cute if he actually puts something in it, but one day he had a doll and carried it nice (18m) and on thanksgiving he took that same doll and smashed it to the floor and made some manly "growl".

So..I would look for a truck :) My son plays with that doll stuff because we have so much of it and he is young and doesn't care (and shouldn't) but if I were to gift that to him,...well then that might not go over well.

I had 5 boys and each one recieved a doll when I brought home a new baby. I made sure they had diapers and bottles so they could practice being daddys while I was caring for their new brother. Yes sometines they got rough but that was a teachable moment on being gentle to babies. They all lost interest after a while. But it helped make them all gentle with children.

Does your son distinguish between boy and girl stuff? My 1 1/2 year old has a doll that has a purple outfit (not sure if it is suppose to be boy or girl)and my other son who is 3 1/2 prefers the boy dolls better (which basically is any doll not wearing pink to him)

If he gets a sister some day, you'll see what he'll do with one. As a mom of 2 boys (who are not nearly as rough and tumble as most boys), they would rip its head off and throw it across the room and knock things over with it... But they love their stuffed animals and build-a-bears and still sleep with them at 4 & 7. He'll probably gravitate to the boy toys anyway. I never had to teach my boys how to make the cars go or the noises they make with them. And at 18 months old, my oldest took the end of the paper towel tube, put it on his hand and pointed it at me making shooting noises. And they never ever had gun toys. Go figure!

Enjoy your wonderful boy! They are such a joy!!!

I have triplets (bbg) that are 6 yrs old now. When they were younger my son, Logan wanted a doll. I found one at Meijer that had short blond hair and a blue outfit (could have been a girl or boy) and bought that. Logan still plays with Baby Bobby on ocassion. :) He will find him and sleep with him for a few days before he forgets about him again.

My son also had to have an unbrella stroller for his baby.

They use to have the Boy Buddy doll but I don't know if they still do. You can get inexpessive twin dolls that are small for smaller children. Also it is perfectly normal for boys to play with dolls. Kudos for the support. It teaches boys to be caring and nurturing.

Lh; i think its just as important for a boy to play with a doll as it is for a girl to play with cars, or the like, any way i raised three sons, and they loved their my buddy doll, they took him everywhere, that was years ago, im sure my buddy is still out there, but go ahead and get one, it dont matter, but if the child carries something pink and is a boy people think your child is a girl, so if you can get them a blue thing, any way have a good day and enjoy life, D. s
