RE: Ovulation Predictors

I bought 30 days worth of fertility strips online for really cheap and when a got a 2nd line on one of those I used the First Response or Clearblue Easy ovulation kit (you can get coupons for both online). It saved me some money and I got pregnant the 2nd month w/ my 2nd child. I also used the kits the 1st time I get preg. and have recommended them to friends. As others have said, just follow the directions to a tee. Good luck!

I was on clomid when getting pregnant with my first child also. For my second, the dr. did not think I needed it as I was more regular. I bought a basic pee on stick kind and it worked fine. I was pregnant within a couple of months, however, I had two miscarriages before having my second child. I'm not sure if the low hormone levels associated with needing clomid are also related to holding a pregnancy or not. I think the ovulation kits are a good idea or just try sex every other day for days 10-20 or so. Good luck!!

I would talk to your OB. If you had issues before they still night be there. Just because you start your cycle, does always mean you release an egg.

I used the basic pee-on-a-stick CVS brand ones and it worked just fine. The key is follow directions to a T! They were cheap enough that I didn't care that I ended up buying a few months worth. Good luck!

Hey there. I used the least expensive brand, probably even no-name if it was available! The first time, I used a kit that had 7 - 10 strips and you pee on them and when the color matches what it says, the hormone is present that indicates ovulation in the next some-odd hours. I did get pregnant. The second time I used them, I got one of those kits that had 30 strips in them, bc like you, my cycles were on the long side and I wanted to be sure I caught it. That one worked the same way as the first, just many more test strips, in case you didn't ovulate in the 7 days. I got pregnant using that predictor kit as well. (Both came from CVS)

also, like another mom said, reading about cervical mucous and how it changes during your cycle will tell you tons about when you ovulate. just a quick check every day will help you understand your body.

I got pregnant twice using the 7 stick kits, both within three months (and I was OLD at the time with an irregular cycle). I used the Wal-Mart brand and the Target brand. I used them in the am, since they both said that was ok and that you should have had the urine in your body for at least four hours (which wouldn't have worked well for me during the day!). I agree with a previous poster that sometimes the lines were hard to interpret - is it dark enough, etc? I like the Wal-Mart ones better. If you have the time and the cash, you may want to go with a more expensive option, and also see if your insurance covers it!

Get the cheapest brand you can - they all work the same. The only tip about them is to use them at night (unlike pregnancy tests, which you use in the morning). They are much more reliable that way. The first month or two you might need to use two kits (I know!) but then you should have a sense of when in your cycle you ovulate. Also, not all women have this, but you might have some mild pain around the time that you ovulate (middlesmertz) and that's a way cheaper way of knowing too. Good luck!

I bought the CVS brand and had luck with it mainly I think because I buy the one that has 20 strips. I don't know I would have had the same success with the tests that only give you 7 sticks. With a longer cycle you start using the kit 7 days after you period and continue until you find when you are ovulating.

The best ovulation predictor I know of (and the cheapest) is your own body. I have very irregular cycles and have always been pregnant within 3 cycles just by reading my body. You have to observe your mucous discharge every time you go to the bathroom and it changes drastically when you are going to ovulate. If you are interested in hearing more specifics, email me and I will be happy to provide, but I didn't want to get too graphic if you're not interested. Hi, I have had great luck using the ovulation kits. I know one mentioned that they are all the same. The way they work it, however, the cheaper ones that when the second line appears and you read it against the test line I think aren't as good. It was always hard for me to read them and I would stare at them not knowing if it was working. I started using the clearblue easy. they are expensive but look on ebay. It is so easy to use because when the surge is predicted, it gives you a smiley face; when it is not, it is an empty circle so there is no guessing involved. it worked every time for me and I have had multiple pregnancies.
