Post Pregnancy Jeans

Embarrassing question but I will ask it anyway - I find that since I had kids (3) I am unable to find jeans or any kind of button/zip pant that fits properly. I don't really have excess weight - just extra skin around my abdomen from being stretched out during pregnancy. If I try on pants that fit in the legs and bottom, then I have rolls of skin protruding from the top of the pants. If I go a size bigger to avoid the muffin top problem, then I have a baggy butt, etc. I guess I could do more toning in the abdominal area but that won't reduce the excess skin issue. Where do you find pants that work? I know I can't be the only one with this issue- please help!! I need to get out my daily sweat pants!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Re: High waist jeans/pants - I tried on a pair of Land's End high waist jeans (they are back in style this year) but the same problem occurred - so that's what triggered this question. If anyone has jeans that work for them with this problem I would be happy to hear what brand

It's not what size you are choosing, it is the style and cut that is the issue.
You need to look for pants with a higher waist band. Wearing a low slung or "hip hugger" waist is not going to work because that style will just push that stretched skin up and over the waist band. If the rise isn't high enough when I look for jeans I could go up 3 or 4 sizes and never get rid of the shelf of skin all the while being a tent everywhere else. I have had 3 kids as well. If it doesn't come to around my belly button I can't wear them.

i've found that lee jeans have the most options when it comes to accommodating our individual bumps and rolls. and they're softer and stretchier than some.
there's a downside to that. my lees feel great when i first put 'em on, but after a few hours of wear they stretch out a little and i have to keep tugging them up.
still easier than the unforgiving hold of traditional jeans.
i used to wonder why all old ladies wore stretch pants. now that i R one, i totally get it.

Where are you buying your jeans? Are they junior - misses - or women's cuts?

I ask because these sizes are really cuts more than sizes. Junior's are usually odd sizes 5-7-9-11-13 and so on, misses' are usually even sizes 6-8-10-12 and women's will usually say 6W -8W- 10W etc. Junior cuts are narrower through the highs and hips than misses and women's are cut even fuller than misses. As we age our bodies change the hips and thighs spread out a bit more and we lose muscle tone thus the fuller cut. Even though there is little difference in a junior 5 and a misses 6 you will notice the cut is fuller in the misses.
You also need to take a good look at your body. Are you long waisted or short waisted ? I am short waisted from the shoulders to crotch I can wear a petite, in leg length and sleeve length I need a medium/tall to a tall. I am 66 inches tall (5' 6") exactly half of that is my inseam from crotch to floor. Finding the proper rise cut (the part of the pant from crotch to waist) is an important part of getting a good fit in a pair of pants or jeans. Since I am short waisted a slightly short cut on the rise is the best fit for me.
I know this I a lot to absorb at once. If you know a good seamstress she can help you determine body type. Back in the day I used to sew all of my clothes from jeans to evening wear. It was the only way I could get a good fit.
Since you are a northerner like me look into getting some camisoles that are also shape wear for the winter. And work those abs so in the Spring you can uncover a whole new body in time for swimsuit season. ;-)

I am assuming that this is were the term "mom jeans" came from. You need to find some that have a higher waist so that your belly doesn't hang out and over the edge.

As our bodies change so do the styles of clothing.

They are not jeans, but I found that pants at Loft in their "curvy" cut are perfect for my post-2-babies body.

Morning, I like Joe's Jeans.. you will pay up a bit, but they are well-made and last a long time.. Their "honey" cut as they call it, allows for more room.. I am short-waisted and have a tough time finding the right style.. with Joe's, there have been a few that fit quite well.... like any jeans, I have had to try and sooooooooo many different styles and cuts... Also, the Catherine Jean, which Nordstroms sells has been another good fit.. I like both brands because as someone who is 5'3, they brands offer petite sizes...
Also, while I am not fat and nor do I have a large butt, I am also not someone who can wear skinny type jeans.. Again, both brands offer a variety of styles and aren't just for the tall skinny person...try not to let it get you down if you have to try and several sizes.. that is just par for the course. it's not your fault some of these companies just use one prototype for their clothing.. people come in all shapes and sizes.. but some companies still insist on lumping everyone together..

good luck

My 3rd child is 1 and 1/2 now and I think this problem isn't going away for me either.

I am still doing the hair tie trick with some of my pant/jeans that I like. You don't button the top button but you loop an elastic hair tie around the button and through the button hole. It extends the waistline a bit but helps keep the zipper up (unlike just leaving them unbuttoned and falling down). Then I just wear long shirts over it... sigh

Having babies means your body has changed - and for most of us - it's never going to get back to where it was before you started having babies - unless you have a tummy tuck, and get your bust and butt lifted.
I started wearing stretch pants (not skin tight) before our son was born - I like them!

I just had my second baby 3 months ago, and sadly, none of my jeans fit because of the loose skin/fluffy tummy problem. Even my rainy day fat jeans. Sigh. I have no advice, I just wanted to tell you that you're not alone! I'll be reading all the answers you get.

I really like the high waist lee jeans. Also, they have those things you see on tv that you wear under your clothes that hold in the muffin top. You could try those.

I would suggest going to a "denim shop" where someone can fit you.
I'm not sure what you have around you, but here we have things like "The Denim Bar", etc... where it's multiple brands/fits/sizes of different jeans. You work with the store sales folks to find something flattering for your body. Not all "high waisted jeans" fit the same...etc...

I've taken a few friends that were in your predicament, and they had great success.
(I was also in your predicament, but I had a tummy tuck to undo the damage...)
