I think the crayons and coloring books are a great party favor. It's something the kids can use. It would also be fun to set up an arts and crafts table where kids can color in their books. Or they can decorate their own hats or door signs with fun stickers. My kids have gone to 3 parties with arts and craft tables and they loved it. Good Luck!

They have cookie monster photos or cut outs, when they play a game they go to the cookie monster and take a cookie off of him, ( make some paper cookies and tape it on him, write the price on the back, like you won a choc chip cookie, or a tootsie pop, or you own some bubbles, if they dont play games you can reward them for being good, playing nice ect..

Cookies from the Cookie Monster, little trash trucks from Oscar, some egg shape candy from Big Bird.
If your brave and other parents are OK with it, go get the kids their very own Dorothy the goldfish (super cheap at Petco). I've been to 2 parties with fish as a favor and the kids love it!
Walmart also sells inexpsenxive sesame street story books.

I think crayons and coloring books are great for that age!
You could do little Sesame Street character toys, but I think
the crayons and coloring books are a fab idea.
Happy party,

I have found the 'punching balloon' to be a favorite with all ages. Light up sticks, necklaces or bracelets; Small inflatable beach balls; Crayons, coloring books and stickers, always fun; Boys like the foam airplanes; girls jewelry; I try and limit candy (1 or 2 pieces) but animal crackers are yummy (I think I've seen Sesame Street themed ones at Babies R Us).

I think party favors are so over done and crazy. Your idea of crayons and coloring book is fantastic (and inexpensive). I did the same thing for my daughters 2nd birthday and the kids all loved it. Another easy one is side walk chalk. Have fun!

J.,
I was just at Michael's yesterday and they have a fantastic dollar aisle right now for the holidays. I purchased Sesame Street sticker albums for $1 each for my son's preschool class! They were awesome, but they also had other Sesame Street stuff and all for $1!
Good luck and no, coloring books are not lame. Have a great party!

The last party we went to of a 4 year old, they gave out paints with construction paper and my kids loved it. His mother is a school teacher. At my son's birthday party last week, I filled up a couple of small baskets (one with toys from the 99 cent store and the other with candy bars we wrapped ourselves with a "thank you" wrapper) and let the kids choose a few from each basket on their way out. The enjoyed the power of deciding what to take home with them.

A few years ago my older daughter had an Elmo birthday party. I found Sesame Street place mats somewhere--I think KMart or WalMart. They only cost $1. I rolled them up and tied a ribbon around them. It's a useful favor that my kids are still using 4 years later!!

I think coloring books and crayons make great party favors. But something I've done before is get mini plastic buckets w/ the shovels and fill them up with bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and a few age appropriate knick-knacks. Perhaps sesame street fruit snacks, stickers, or noise maker. You can add a cute personalized tag that reads, "bucket of fun" or the name of the recipient. Use colorful paper, embellishments, and ribbon. Hope this helps!

Crayons and coloring books are great. Don't get too hung up on this stuff, really. Kids are happy to just get a little bag with fruit snacks and sidewalk chalk. You gave them a PARTY for goodness sake!

I stopped doing goody bags altogether at parties. Instead, we do some crafty activities at the party (easier when the kids get older). They make a bracelet, or paint a t-shirt and decorate a paper bag to use to collect pinata droppings. That is their take-home. I personally think that we parents are going a bit too far with birthday parties.

They have everything and anything for themes, parties, favors etc. And at "bulk" prices. Lots of teachers order from here

Crayons and Coloring books are a great idea. Please give out some cheap plastic item that will not just end up in the trash the next day. One year I found inexpensive puzzles, another I went downtown and found soccer balls. One nice thing is much better than a bag full of candy and waste.

We did an Elmo themed b-day party for my daughter when she turned 3 & the kids loved the custom t-shirts that we screen printed for them. Many of the kids wore them until they had holes in them or got too small...some even handed them down to younger siblings when they were done with them. (sidenote...my husband & I have a screenprinting business so it was really conveninet for us to do this, but if you are interested in hearing more about this, just e-mail me back :)

Crayons and coloring books are good ideas. So are magnetic numbers or letters, blocks with numbers or letters, plastic figures of favorite characters (try a dollar store), paints, little teddy bears (think "Radar") or those chenille worms (think Slimy) and story books with Sesame Street characters. Try playing games like, "One of these things is not like the others." Make up dances and sing songs. Have a counting game and talk like The Count - AH AH AH AH!

I combined Elmo with Fire Trucks.... cute theme!!

Everybody wears red, red punch, hot dogs with red ketchup, etc... put red cherries in their glasses...

Now, go to your local Fire department for coloring books and plastic fire hats. Most fire depts. have them... I bought little reading books for a buck at big lots. They were all Sesame Street. That was their take home party favor... cheap and easy!!!
