Opinion on Ionic Breeze Air Purifiers(sharper Image) or Other Brands

I've been wanting an air purifier for several years and so I started looking on ebay debating on buying one(or 2). I really like the Ionic breeze because you can just wash the blades and don't have to worry about replacing the filters. BUT does it work as well as they say? I don't want to waste money on this if I won't be able to tell any difference. I'd like to get the small night light model for the laundry room(where the litter box is) and then one for the living room or bedrooms(maybe rotate it weekly???)It seems like I have to dust twice a day(which I don't have time, or desire, to do) and I was hoping that the purifier would cut down on that.

What can I do next?

I bought an Ionic Breeze several years ago when we were doing some remodeling and the dust was making me sick. I think it worked great! I think I compared several brands I liked the ease of care and that they were recommended.

Good Luck,

Yes, you should change your air filters regularly (i.e. put it on your calendar to remind you) and get ducts cleaned if you can afford it...but frankly I LOVE and ADORE my air purifiers! I'm an allergy kid and I notice a HUGE difference when I don't have them on!

I went with the Ionic Pro because it was cheaper than the Sharper image version and does the same thing. I believe the first one I got I purchased at Walmart...now I have one in virtually every room. My oldest one is nearly 5 years old and still working just as good as the day I bought it. The night light models are ok to fair. I don't like them as much as the larger units (which the Ionic pro you can buy in small and large units). The wall units actually put off a high pitched noise which if you are sensitive to will annoy you and sometimes don't actually stay well on the wall because they are so heavy (they actually pull at the plug and end up falling out...at least they do at my home).

My dusting is virtually non-existant...well ok...once a month and I have 2 kids and a Chocolate lab...so yeah, I swear by these things! Beware of the ones on ebay...make sure you are at least buying a name brand...a lot are going by ionic whatever but I would stick with Ionic Pro or the Quatra by Sharper Image. I also believe Oreck puts one out now that is supposed to be good to. But bang for the buck Ionic Pro does the same thing the more expensive models do and I've never had a problem with one of mine and I own 7.

If you are concerned about wasting the money...go to walmart, buy one and try it out...if you aren't happy with it, you can return it within your 30 days and get your money back.

The BEST way to cut down on dust is to change the air filters in your air conditioner/furnace frequently. If you do it every month for a while, you'd really see an improvement.

I personally like the Ecoquest's Fresh Air or Living Air unites... They cost more & YES I notice a difference when mine. I can always tell a store or home that is running one, because it really leaves a nice clean air that is awesome!

strangely enough, our son's allergist requested that we avoid purchasing an air filter. He said that it can actually create more problems....I still find that hard to believe!

We tried the Ionic Breeze, luckily they had a money back guarantee b/c we returned it & got our money back. We really didn't notice a difference. If anything, it just made the air more dry. We have started using a nicer air filter in our AC/furnace. Good luck! If they still have a money-back guarantee, you don't have much to lose & it's worth a try.

I also have an Ecoquest air purifier and I like it a lot. I've had it for about 3 years or so and it still works great and it's easy to maintain. I purchased it through Sheryl Timm ###-###-#### who is a representative. I believe she will let you try it out first.

I noticed one response that said one way to help with the dusting situation is to change the air filters on you heater/air conditioner. This is a great hint. It will also help cut down on your heating/cooling bills. Another tip is to spray the front (the side that the air flows through FROM your house) of your filter with a furniture polish. This will help collect extra dust that is flowing through your air ducts. (mine are disgusting when I change them once a month.) It may also cause you to change the filters more often for a little while but after a few months you should be able to change them once a month. Hope this helps and is a bit cheaper than an air purifier. If you still decide to buy a purifier, I am sure you will make the right choice.

Have you thought about having your air ducts cleaned? Do you change your AC filters monthly?

My mother has just been diagnosed with lots of allergies and the first thing her doctor told her to do was to get a purifier with a HEPA filter. There was no other specification. The thing she noticed after putting it in her bedroom was that the dust left the surfaces of her bedside tables, she also thought she felt better after a few days. Just a suggestion.
