Thanks to all of your advice for my son's perpetual rash I did get him in to the dr and he is being treated for a yeast infection with nystatin ointment. We've been applying it w/ every diaper change and using warm washclothes to clean him- anyone know how long it should take before its cleared up. Its only been about 2 days since we started but I'm anxious because we have tried so much in the past with no avail.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am so happy to say that it looks like we might be winning the war against this pesky little rash. It has been 5 days that we've been treating his yeast infection, I took your advice and started the desitin (which seems to help alot). Thank you so much for easing my anxiety. So good to know I'm not alone!

If you don't want to spend the money on the Nystatin, use Desitin Creamy diaper rash ointment mixed with a pea size of Monistat 7 day cream. It will have the rash gone in no time. That is what my doctor told me to use with both of my kids and it worked great! Good luck

For us, the Nystatin took a few days, but it did help clear it up. We found that using destin (or the like) over the top of the nystatin also helped along with soda baths at night.

My son used it and a couple daycare children. It depends the severity of the rash how long it will take to clear up. But don't put anything over it. Only use the Nystatin till it clears up. It is a good habit to give your children Yogurt on a regular basis. It helps reduce such things.

My daughter had the same problem, treated the same way. For her, the rash improved within a couple of days and was gone by the end of the week. Just make sure it's all gone before you stop using the Nystatin, otherwise it will come back.

LOVE IT!!! My son has only gotten a rash from being on antibotics, and it usually is horriable. This has been wonderful for him, and works almost overnight for him :)
If he gets frequent rashes, I would keep it on hand.
Also with the rash our doctor told us that really drying his bottom before replacing the diaper would help wonders! Funny enough, but we put the blowdryer on cool, and dry him off when he has a rash. Anything to make him feel better, we try!

One of the main goals with a yeast rash is to keep it dry. Yeast is like a fungus so it thrives in moist places. My doctor had me only use the nystatin cream 3 times a day and the rest of the day keep it as dry as possible and don't put anything else on it. no powder or other creams. I did this with my daughter and the rash was gone in 3 to 4 days and her rash was soo bad that she screamed when getting her diaper changed and she was starting to get blisters. and the day after we started the nystatin 3 times a day and dry the rest of the day, the rash stopped hurting her. Hope this helps.

The first time my son got a yeast infection like that, I didn't realize what it was so I was trying every else under the sun for about a month until I called the doctor and got nystatin. It took about 7 days for me to start noticing a change and then it took another 3 weeks for it to clear up. The nurse said that it took a while because it had been going on for so long. So it took a while, but it cleared up totally fine in about a month.

I am treating my daughter for the same thing right now. I started on Thursday of last week, it has been 5 days and I'd say it is 90% gone!! The doctor told me to give it a week, and if it doesn't go away to call back!! Hope this helps!

If it isn't any better at all by day 3 or 4 call the doctor again. He may need some oral (taken by mouth) nystatin to get it cleared up. Plus, my sons used to get so bad that some of the open sores would get infected and he would need an antibiotic. We would have to use both at the same time because the antibiotic would make the yeast worse, but he would need both to get the rash cleared up. It is a terrible cycle once it gets started. I am not sure how old he is (I missed your first post) but yogurt really does help if he will eat it a couple times a day! Good luck,
J.
