Moving to Dayton

I agree with the girl before you, but at the same time they have their issues. I would personally stay away from Centerville, but Beavercreek is a nice area to live and they have good schools. I am not going to lie to you though. I think that Beavercreek schools are overcrowded. I would still choose them over any other school with the exception of private schools or the city of Vandalia. If I had to pick my first pick would be Vandalia. All of the schhols in the district have an excellent rating!

hi M., welcome to dayton! the other ladies offered some great advice, but if you want to see for yourself the stats on some local schools, a good website to visit is greatschools.net.
personally, i would love to send my children to centerville, kettering, beavercreek or springboro schools. i wouldn't want to offend any other moms by telling you which schools to avoid, but there are a handful i could share in a private message if you care to hear my opinion. i have lived in this area most of my life and have a very good idea of the quality of the schools in most of the surrounding districts.

Hi M., welcome to Dayton. I am from the Trotwood area and have children that go to Trotwood school district. It is a pretty good school system and other areas around me that I like are Clayton, Engelwood, and Bellbrooke. These are areas also that have homes for the amount of pets that you have. Kettering and Centerville are also good areas to live in.

Trotwood Veternarian Clinic is where I take my pets. Very nice people and good vet.(5941 Wolf Creek Pike ###-###-####) An excellent neurologist is Dr. Donald Wamsley (627 E. First Street Dayton ###-###-####) Very attentive and thorough. I see him for seizure disorder. Some others I reccomend are Dr.Michael Valle(1975 Miamisburg-Centerville road ###-###-####) and Dr. Hugh Moncrief (The Ohio Neurological Institute inc.)(30 E apple Street Dayton ###-###-####) Specialties in many different areas of neurological difficulties. And a good medical doctor Dr. John Mauer (540 Lincoln Park Blvd. Kettering, Ohio ###-###-####) My parents ans I have seen him for a long time and he is one of the best that I have had because he knows where exactly to send you when there is a problem.

I don't know any better cleaning lady than myself, so I don't usually look for one because I have to have things done a certain way . I guess I have always been a neat freak in that area!! I clean my parents home all the time because they work are older and alot more tired!!! But it is hard with kids.

The areas for schools are probably Beavercreek and Centerville. I am from Beavercreek.

if you move around Huber Heights Samaritan Pediatrics are GREAT pediatritians. My kids have never seen anyone else. I can give you their number if you are interested. Dr. Dicky is a great Vet he is on Wenger rd in Englewood. I don't think Northmont is a very good school district the elementary schools r ok but I don't prefer the middle or high schools. I have heard Vandalia Butler Schools are good.

Welcome to Dayton. Do you know which area of Dayton you will be living in? We have many wonderful public schools in our area. I worked as a special speaker so I have had the opportunity to be in just about every middle school in our county and 3 other counties in the area. Here are my favorite schools, but I also recommend that you go to Ohio's gov. web site where they give the stats. and test results from each district.

The following are on my A list:
Centerville has great teachers, good classroom behavior and size, special needs educ. and extra curricular offerings like strings, orchestra, band, and every sport imaginable. Oakwood is good too, but to live in Oakwood can be very expensive, but very convenient to downtown Dayton. Springboro has wonderful schools, but that area is booming so fast they are out growing their school's capacity, thus are constantly adding on and passing new levys to pay for the expansion. Waynesville has really good schools and a wonderful small town appeal. The only disadvantage is the distance from downtown Dayton. Beavercreek has great schools, but they too are growing and the schools are getting crowded, but they can not expand and adapt like Springboro has because Beavercreek has a large contingency of older adults that will not pass the levys to support the schools, so some programming has been cut. These schools are good and also have a small town appeal because of their distance from downtown Dayton: New Lebanon (Dixie), Clearcreek township, Tipp City, Troy, New Carlisle, Brookville, Vandalia-Butler, Tri-county North, Bellbrook, Sugar Creek and Spring Valley. Yellowsprings really prides themselves on their schools, but I have never been in them to talk, so I can not confirm, but their area is very expensive to live in and a bit counter cultural.

The following schools are on my B list. They offer a solid education, but do not have as many extra activities to offer. I would still send my son to these if I could not afford to live in the above districts. Kettering, Huber Heights, Fairborn, West Carrolton, and Miamisburg.

The following schools I would not recommend: Dayton city schools and Morraine.

Well, I hope that helps. We also have many private schools available including Montessori, Dayton Christian Schools, and Dayton Academy and several Catholic and Lutheran schools.

hi, my name is C.. i do not really know about the city of dayton, itself, but miamisburg,(never lived there, but for what i know, it is good, and a good school system, i think) and farmersville are good towns. i live in farmersville. grew up here, moved at age 18, and moved back last year. love the atmosphere this small down gives. small town, people friendly. we have a very good vet. there is a family dr here in town that i have heard great things about, some of my family goes to him. also, in the neighboring town of germantown,(about 6-8 miles away) there is a good family dr, who i have heard really great things about.

the one in farmersville is named earl ratcliff(not positive on the spelling), located on center street. the one in germantown is named krisell(sp??) fedrizzi(sp??)(female dr.)located on either rt. 4 or dayton pike. i use to live in germantown. some people love it. but i prefer farmersville, due to more of a close-knit small-town community. if you want to look them up, the area codes are, farmersville- 45325, and germantown-45327. not sure about miamisburg.

i have one going into second grade, and has attended this farmersville elementary school, and i have loved it, and she would tell you the same. this elementary was just given a school "hall of fame" award, i believe by the state. you might be able to look something up on it. this school system, which includes both farmersville, and germantown, is called "valley view local schools".

i, right now, am a stay at home mom, caring for my dad who has cancer. he is doing somewhat better now than he was this fall/winter. i have always been a stay at home mom, babysat for 27 years, have 4 other kids ages 15 to 27 years, and 3 most wonderful. precious grandbabies. i do not drive at the present time. just never got my license ever. but plan on trying to get that taken care of sometime this summer.

Hi M.. Most of the schools in the area are good, but there area some better than others. If you base things on test scores, nobody is better than Oakwood. Some other schools that you may want to consider are Kettering and Centerville. Check out the Ohio Department of Education's website...the different reports on the schools that the state completes are on there.
