Manual Breastpump

My Medela electric breast pump was stolen out of my car Sunday night. I really can't afford to spend that much money on another pump, so I wanted to see if anyone could recommend a good manual pump. I only work two days a week, which is the only time I need to pump. Thanks so much!!

What can I do next?

If you qualify for WIC my understanding is they may be able to help you get one. It would at least be worth a call.

The Avent manual pump works as well or better than many of the fancy ones. Give it a try you will like it.

A., I have an evenflo comfort select dual automatic breast pump that I've been trying to get rid of. My husband bought it at Target, I belive it was $50 or 60 but I don't really care what you give me for it. My daughter is almost 2 and I only breast feed her for 6 wks.. If your interested you can call me at ###-###-#### or email ____@____.com.. I live in Rowlett..

Oh no! What kind of person steals a mom's breastpump?! Seriously? You know, I work at a hospital and use the Medela Symphony fancy shmancy one there. But at home, I have a little cheapy Avent that I actually like better! Mine is a single side hand pump, but it also has a electric top you can put on it. The hand pump works well, though. Maybe leave you with some carpel tunnel, but it is a really good pump :)

I love my avent manual. Used it for my first child, and just bought another one for my second.

I loved my Avent Isis. It took some practice, but I got just as much in the same amount of time as my electric.

Good luck!

I went through a few manual pumps, trying to find one I liked after my first child was born. I found that I liked my Medela best. This time, with our second child I just went out and bought the Medela at Target for $50.

I purchased an Avent Isis as well to take out of town. Got it at Target for like 60 bucks with a case and 4 bottles...I LOVE IT...with my 2nd, i use it more than my madela electric one...it is FASTER and QUIETER...if i had known how much more i liked it, i would have only used it all along...way more bang for the buck in my opinion!

I'm not sure about your situation but two little known facts: most insurance companies will pay for a pump with a prescription from the predi and WIC often has some they will give or loan the hosipital grade but give you all the tubes and stuff. You also might check with the LaLeche Leaque some of the bigger leaques have them for women who can't afford them as do some of the crisis pregnancy centers.

any chance you could file a car insurance claim to get your pump replaced? i've only used my medela pump in style, but i think i have a medela harmony or something like that that's a manual... maybe i'll give it a try and report back :)

edited to add: not to be too personal, but do you qualify for WIC? a lot of states give breastfeeding WIC moms a breastpump since they're not supplying them with formula, it's worth checking into. or, look on craigslist for a used pump in style, buy your own tubing and accessories($25ish new) and you'll be all set... as you know, the milk never touches the actual pump.

I like my Medela manual pump. The manual pump feels more powerful to me than the electric.

Bummer that someone stole your pump, I'm sorry to hear that!
I applaud you for making the committment to pump so you can continue to breastfeed - how awesome!

I used the AVENT Isis manual pump. It worked great for me, and it was pretty inexpensive. You can check on "Froogle.com" to find a good deal. I just saw one on Ebay, still sealed, for $29. I remember getting mine at Target, but it has been a few years, I think it was around $30 there. Good luck! M.

I have an Ameda Purely Yours electric pump that you can have. It is the kind that protects milk from backing up into the tubing and pump. Send me a message if you are interested.

Hi A.,
It seems that everyone agrees, but I just wanted to put in my vote for the avent manual pump. I suggest that anyone breastfeeding get one, even if they don't work. It is very easy to use. You can pump anywhere (even in the car on long road trips!) If you don't have the steam bags - I would suggest those also, all the parts and a bottle will fit in there easily and you can microwave for a quick sterilizing.
Good Luck on your decision.

I also use the Avent manual pump because I only need to give my baby bottles on occasion. It is so easy and works well. I've found that it's easiest to pump at the same time he is nursing because of the "let down". I get the most milk this way. Good luck!

I have a Medela pump I am not using. I only had one child, so it is not very used. One friend borrowed it, but only used it a couple of times. I could sell it to you really cheap if you want to replace your good one with another good one versus getting a cheaper manual one.
