Looking for Kid-Friendly Back-packs

Hi Moms
Does anyone know where I can find Kid-Friendly, PVC Free, or Eco Friendly Back-Packs
for my 6 year old daughter. I have looked at various stores... Meijer, Dunnams, Targets
and not able to find any thing that is not made in China. I did try to google this and
came up with very high priced (very nice) but too expensive Back-packs that I have to
order. Any where in the Macomb/Oakland area would be great. I was able to find a "safe"
lunch box at Target and Meijer and that was all they had but--happy to find that. If anyone knows of a reasonably-priced back-pack that is Healthy for kids, either from a web site that you can recomend, I don't mind to order, or if there is a store that carries these products, that would be great.

What can I do next?

Does Whole Foods have anything?

Tree City Diapers in Ann Arbor had some cute ones. You can also get them online they have a website.

what about searching out a SAHM in Michigan that makes them?

I've only done searching online... But I know that Whole Foods carries some lead-free/PVC-free lunch bags (I'm not sure about backpacks but I would assume they carry those too...) I found a bunch of lead free/PVC free lunch bags and backpacks on http://www.oompatoys.com Just go to the website and then type "lunch bag" or "backpack" in the search area in the upper right hand corner of the home page for the website. Some of their things are pricey but there is a lunch bag for as little as $9.99 plus shipping. Most of the typical backpacks start around $19.99 and go up from there ("Room it Up" is the brand for the cheapest ones).

I am not sure of the content but we have always bought our 6 kids Lands end or llBean back packs. They are a bit pricey but our oldest son is about to start high school with the same one he used all through grade school. Cheaper in the long run and greener too. Good Luck!

Try Tree City Diapers in Ann Arbor. I was just there and they had some really cute ones. Treecitydiapers.com- although I don't know if all of their products are on the website. You could always call and talk to them about their products.

just a thought here but have you tried REI? or think outside the box and not get a backpack per se but an enviromentally friendly bag of another sort?

what are your particular concerns? I use the LL Bean backback and I get several years (at least 3) out of it so I feel its a great enviromental choice :) There is no lead and I dont think ovc.. it is made of nylon though it does have 3m reflective on it :)
