Looking for a Tutor for My Children Novi Area

I'm looking for a tutor for my 2 children, one child is in Kindergarten and my other is in the 6th Grade, both of my children need tutoring in reading and math. I need a tutor with very reasonable rates. I've looked on Craigslist and the rates were $20-$30 dollars per hour. Being a single mom I cannot afford those prices. Saturday mornings would be the ideal time for us.

What can I do next?

Hello. My name is D., I'm 19 years old and I would be more than happy to tutor your kids. I graduated high school with honors (Cum Laude) and doing pretty well in college. I do not have any certification, however I do attend school at Eastern Michigan with aspirations for obtaining a degree in History Education. I am competent in most liberal sciences as well.
So far, I have earned 27 credit hours in Liberal Arts studies and after this semester I will have earned 12 more for a total of 39. I have recently lost my job so I will have a lot of time to help. I am available throughout the week after 12:30 p.m.

Contact your area Community Colleges the yoften offer free tutoring through their Education department....also check your area high school for teenage tutors they will not charge as much and your children would probably learn more from them, and you may get a sitter out of it...

My Middle School has teacher hours after school for Math but they also have signs up all over the school w/ a number to call and there are HS students who tutor as well. I agree w/ below call the office and see what they say. Not sure why a Kindergartener would need tutoring but you need to ask your K teacher......my Elementary also has teachers that come in early in the AM and tutor before school there are 2 teachers that I can think of that do that. I recommend some place like Sylvan Learning Centers we have a good friend who teaches for them. Some things are just habits or examples we set like we read following dinner every night from 7-7:30....I know it is hard I work full time too and balancing everything is difficult. Good luck!!

Have you contacted the school? Sometimes they have tutors that they recommend or teachers that due tutoring on the side. When my son was in 6th grade, his teachers alternated weeks and stayed after school one day a week to help kids with their homework, this had the added benefit of letting him get stuff from his locker if he forgot it, or, get papers out of a class room, if he needed a new paper. You could start by emailing his home room teacher.

Good Morning T.!

There is a retired Math teacher from Walled Lake Western High School who offers free tutoring at the First Baptist Church of Walled Lake on Wednesday afternoons. The church is locate on Pontiac Trail south of Maple behind Lynch's Funeral Home. The number to the church is ###-###-####, or you could leave an e-mail at ____@____.com

For the kindergartener... I may be wrong about this, but have you talked to the teacher about strategies for helping them? I guess I am just wondering that if they are already struggling and they are in Kindergarten... maybe they are not developmentally ready to be in school yet? Some kids can use an extra year before they start school... especially with the extensive curriculum that they are responsible for these days!! Kindergarten is NOT Kindergarten anymore... it is 1st grade material!!
Just a thought.....

Good Luck! I hope this helps!
Peace,
B.
