Kirkland Formula?

As a mother of twins, I'm always looking for good deals. Does anyone know if Costco brand formula is okay to feed my babies? It says that it compares to Enfamil Lipil, which is all they've eaten so far, but I don't want to take a chance with something I'm given them to eat, you know? Any experience? Should I ask my pediatrician first?

What can I do next?

We used Kirkland as well as breastfeeding (and still do both). I compared to Enfamil and Similac and it appeared to be the same!

My twins are now 9 but when they were babies Kirkland was my saving grace! Diapers and formula...they were so well priced! Twins are expensive so every time you can find a deal...go with it! Kirkland saved me a lot of money when my twins were little :)
As the twins get older the expense goes into different directions...now I spend all of that money in sports! ha ha
Love them more than life itself :)

I used Kirkland formula with my last baby, and it was great! I would buy some and mix it with the Enfamil for a week or so rather than just switching formula. It's so much cheaper than Enfamil, so happy savings! :)

It is exactly the same stuff. I know it feels weird to buy the "cheep" stuff, but if you look at their nutritional content its almost identical (more the same then your babies *wink*) Also the FDA regulates this stuff and by law it has to be the same. The only thing I would consider was if they were on a special kind and not just "regular" formula then I don't think that Kirkland does that. Not yet anyway. I used the Sam's Club kind and my sis-in-law used the costco kind and are kids are perfectly fine! =0)

As a mother of twins, I also was looking for good formula deals and settled on using Costco brand formula. My twins did great on it and it was much cheaper and nice that the containers were larger. My pediatrician said that it was good, but if you're concerned, definitely ask your ped what he/she thinks.

HI,
I would recommend looking at the ingredients for both and then buy the costco brand and taste both of them yourself. If the ingredients are the same and they taste the same, go for the costco brand. You gotta do what you gotta do. :)

I always had to supplement with formula because I could not produce enough .... we only used the kirkland brand. My daughter had no problems with it and it was much more affordable than most. You should be just fine giving it to yours!

It shouldn't be an issue. Try a can and see how well the tolerate it. You'll know after a couple feedings. I spent lots of money different brands out on all my kids (the twins had reflux...and my other daughter doesn't tolerate milk products so far). See if they will let you have sample can. I don't know if they do that...I know Enfamil and Similac do.

Good Luck!

You can certainly ask your pediatrician, but mine told us that Kirkland is the same as Enfamil and it saved us TONS of money. He fed Kirkland to his son and said it was exactly the same. Some formulas are not the same, but Kirkland is the same as Enfamil. We gave it to our son for a year and he did wonderfully with it.

We recently switched from Enfamil Lipil to the Kirkland, because it is simliar in formula and less expensive. They also told me if she wouldn't ddrink it, I could return it. My daughter liked it better, no tummy problems at all and it doesn't have that icky formula smell like the others.

I've been using it for my 7 month old daughter for the past 4 months. Once I found it and compared the numbers and the unbeatable price it just made sense. The texture reminds me more of Similac rather than Enfamil in that Enfamil is more dusty an fine but besides that I don't see much of a difference. She doesn't seem to notice any difference either and she is thriving and doing very well. Never any problems with it.

I used Kirkland for my son, and had no problems with it. I thought it was similar to the Similac brand, the texture was similar and he responded the same to both. He didn't like the Enfamil, but my daughter liked that one and also did well on the Kirkland. I think all baby food have to go through vigorous testing with the FDA, so if it doesn't meet the standards, it wouldn't be on the market.

I congratulate you on your twins! My two are 17 months apart and I often wonder how moms of twins (and more) do it!

Kirkland is awesome. With my 1st I used Enfamil because I wanted to use the best. With my 2nd he had stomach problems so we tried just about everything, and with my 3rd (and last) we used Kirkland. I talked to our pediatrician about it and she pointed out that it is actually made by the same company that does Similac or Enfamil, I can't remember which one right now. There are no cut backs to make it cheaper, just a store name instead of paying for the brand name. It's a great formula.

I will vouch for Kirkland's formula.

As luck would have it, when I went back to work, my daughter happened to start getting teeth (really early, about 4 months old), and I had some trouble pumping enough to keep her all day, so we just switched to formula. We started with Carnation Good Start, which caused her to have FULL diaper loads, which to me, meant too much waste.

Then we tried Similac, which gave her the most horrible stench to both her diaper loads and just the bad air. But it was REALLY BAD air.

I had given my son Enfamil, and we were in Costco one day, so we tried a can of Kirkland. Sold! It was wonderful. There was waste, but not an inordinate amount of such, and the smell was not reminiscent of the port-a-potty at a 3-day concert in the park. She liked it and took it well, and it was a good choice for us. I never had any problems with her weight-gain, or health because of it. She loved it, and it was soooo much cheaper than the other stuff.

I'll give you another Costco recommendation - the baby wipes. I was such a snob about keeping with my Huggies wipes, but I actually liked the Kirkland wipes better. They were so much cheaper, and they were way more durable, not to mention easier to use in the pop up container where they ACTUALLY popped up! Once we bought them, I never regretted it and never looked back.

And I'll tell you something else about baby wipes - they get kool-aid out of carpet, if you get to it quickly. And they're super handy to have around the house. We kept a pack in every room. It's like having an instant bathroom at your disposal. :)

I used the Sams Club brand which is exactly like enfamil except it probably just has a different label!(My mom works at a drug store and she told me a lot of the generic stuff is made by the original company) The Sams Club formula is only $19.00 for a huge can!!! I highly reccomend it!

Have you read the ingredients on the formula? My vote is against formula altogether. There are healthy alternatives that do not contain so many formulas.

The Kirkland formula is wonderful, and is actually packaged by Enfamil with the Kirkland name, so it's exactly the same. In addition, the Kirkland diapers are excellent as well...very comparable to Huggies.

I think the every baby is different. I tried it for my son, but it made him constipated. But the good thing about Costco is that they will take everything back - I just explained that my baby couldn't take it. I went through several formulas before I found the one that he could take. One curdled in his stomach. Another Smelled. We ended up using the Good Start formula - not the cheapest, but we all want what's best for the baby, I suppose that's why there are so many different types of bottles.

My little girl used Kirkland formula. A guest PED we met at the hospital said it was made for one of the name brands. My daughter breast fed and supplemented with the Kirkland brand ~ that is all she knew. No problems and we have a healthy 3 year old at the top of the growth charts.

Hi A., Kirkland formula is just fine, so many of my daycare babies moms have used Kirkland, and their babies are just as healthy as babies on simulac, or infimil, here's the thing sweetie, you are not really paying for different ingredients, yu are paying for the name. I have an almost 5 month old in my dayacre and her mom uses Kirkland. Hope this helps. J. L.

A.,

I am the mother of a 17 year old, a 17 month old and a 6 month old. The 17 year old was on Similac and did okay. The 17 month old was on Nestle Good Start in the hospital, because that is what the ped in the hospital liked. Once we got her home, we started her on Kirkland and she did wonderful, she thrived and is still doing well, now on whole milk. The 6 month old has had tummy problems with a lot of spitting up since day one. We had her on Kirkland since the 17 month old was still on formula then and we had it in the house. We recently moved and the ped here uses Enfamil. So, we tried to switch her to that both milk based and soy based. The spitting up subsided to a point, but never went away. After about 3 months on Enfamil, we have now switched her back to Kirkland and she is doing great. She is in the 75% as far as length and 65% as far as weight. We will continue using the Kirkland formula. The other stuff is just too expensive. I took the 6 month old in for her shots and was given samples of Enfamil from the peds office. We use that at my parents house during the day, as I take care of my gms with alzheimers and use the Kirkland the rest of the time. It works wonders. No more profuse spitting up and she has less of a sour stomach then before. Best of luck!

With my first child my ped. said that I should not switch formulas unless necessary but with my second child and new ped. she told me that because my baby was strickly on Enfamil that she may need a bottle or two a day of similac to help with constipation. But never said anything about using a store brand.

It' okay to use per my doctor and my friends doctor - also, the target brand formula is okay to use (my son is on this since it is actually cheaper than Kirkland brand and Kirkland doesn't have the Gentlease formula). My friend's daughter is on Kirkland formula. Neither of our kids had any problem switching from Enfamil - it's all the same anyhow. The only difference I could tell from Enfamil and Target brand is that Target brand does not bleach the powder to make it white which just seems more natural to me anyhow! When it comes down it, just ask your doctor!!!

all formula is basically the same. like simalac also makes a non name brad forluma same with enfamil (parents choice). its perfectly safe. the formula that worked best with my daughter was good start (it was like 9 bucks for a small can and it was like 20 bucks for a big can). its super gentle and was the only one she would tolerate. i hope this is helpful and if you want to talk to your babies dr then do so it wont hurt anything. good luck!

My doc started my baby off with Similac and I had ran out of formula, but Enfamil sends me free formula like almost every month so I tried to give it to my baby but he knows the difference even Similac with soy he knew the difference, I would stick with what you started him with because the new formula might not agree with him, or maybe try the new formula for one week and see how he likes it.

I mostly breast fed, but the formula I did use was Kirkland. My son would throw up Similac, and Enfamil was sooo expensive. Kirkland was great.

Also, the little boy I was babysitting up until a few weeks ago, ALWAYS had Kirkland. He did not breast feed basically at all. (I think she said she tried for 6 days.) Anyhow, he is healthy and average weight/height, now at the age of 2.

Wish I would have known about it with my first after I stopped breast feeding. I thought I had to use Emfamil as my doctor had samples of it in his office so it must be the best. With my second I asked my best friend. She used with all 3 of her kids. I tried it and my son did fine on it. Saved lots of money and when isn't that a good thing. Good luck!
