Hi I am shopping for a jogging stroller, but can't decide if I want one where the front wheel moves or if it is even a big difference. I'm looking at doing marathons, but then at the same time would like to be able to use the stroller if I am out shopping or so on. Can someone please help me. Thank you

What can I do next?

You can get one that has a pivoting wheel that you can lock in place. I think it is best for it to be stationary when you’re running, but you’ll be glad to have a wheel that pivots for shopping.

I have a jogging stroller where the front wheel does not move. As I love my stroller, when I want to corners, I get more of an arm workout than I had really ever planned! Good luck!

My joggind stroller has a front wheel which may be switched from stationary to free with a little snap. Works well, but then again, I don't run any marathons.....

I have a double BOB and I love it! You can lock the wheel in place if you want to. I use it as my only stroller.
We found the best deal on it online.
Good luck!

I have a jogging stroller with a fixed front wheel. I like it but think I would be happier with a moving front wheel because it's a pain to use outside of running. Unless you have the space and can afford to have 2 to 3 strollers, I would definitely go with a moving front wheel. I don't know how fast and where you normally run but for my 10min/mile pace on paved sidewalks in my neighborhood I don't think the fixed wheel is necessary. Hope this helps!

BOB Revolution!!! I don't do jogging, but I bought one this summer because I do a lot of walking in forests on uneven terrain, and I regret not buying it earlier! It is a dream to use, and so worth the price. Like others have said, go to bobgear.com to learn more about it. They have some excellent videos that tell about the stroller vs other jogging strollers.

I have seen them on craigslist (they go fast), but I bought mine new at REI and got a discount by joining the REI Gearmail email list. I also joined REI at the same time, so will get 10% back on all my purchases at the end of the year. Between both of those "discounts", I got my new stroller cheaper than buying it used on craigslist or even eBay. Even though my baby will be 1 yr old in two weeks ( my oldest child stopped using a stroller at age 2 exactly), I think I am going to get my money's worth out of this stroller.

Good luck. The stroller jungle is confusing, but I don't think you will have any regrets if you go for a BOB Revolution!

Check out the Baby Jogger brand. It is awesome. I would get one that can move or lock. The locked wheel is only good for running.

I just gott a Phil and Ted and love it. My sil lives in NY where they are very popular and was able to find one for me on craigslist up there. It was much less praiey second hand, fortunately. I was out running errands all day yesterday, and was very glad to have it. I am going to be dure and let my sil know that I love my stroller. It can be a single or double stroller. Phil and Ted Vibes will fold with the second seat attached.

Do you have a price range? The very best one in that category is the Bob Revolution, but it's close to $400. Be weary of others that have a locking/swivel option. If you're serious about marathons, you need a dedicated jogging stroller with a locked front wheel. Go to www.joggingstrollers.com and read the reviews. That helped us a lot. For the money, we chose the Schwinn Freerunner for it's durability, features, wheel size, and comparability to Bob's strollers, but at half the price.
I wish I could say that we have gotten good use out of our Schwinn, but we have not. I had to return to work full time, and my husband is in Seminary, so we have this beautiful stroller sitting in our studio that's been used maybe 3 times! So sad =( Just make sure you don't spend a lot of money on something before you know for sure you will use it.
We recently moved, so I'm hoping we can try it on the walking trails near our house. Unfortunately I'll probably just end up selling it. Hehe

Best of luck in your search!

Bob Revolution hands down. You won't regret it! I got the Bob without the moving front wheel and can't wait to get my Bob Duallie Revolution with my 2nd on the way, so I can have the front wheel that moves.

We run ~35-60 miles a week pushing a 3 year old and a 5 year old. (Have been running since before either was born.) We run with a Chariot Cougar, double. When we had only one child, we ran with a Chariot, single.

We aren't really stroller people - the kids were otherwise carried or walk - but I bought and have appreciated the rotating stroller wheels - it makes maneuvering when walking SO nice. But, you need a fixed wheel for serious running mileage - or at least the ability to lock the wheel.

Go to an REI or some place that has a bunch of joggers and try them out. Really run around the block with one. Some are for taller runners, some are for shorter runners. You want one that is lightweight - rolling weight matters. You will want one that has a rain fly if you run when it is raining. The killer is that if you don't run with a stroller, none of them will feel comfortable and all of them will be work, but you'll figure out a routine.

We chose the Chariot because we also like to take the kids on bike rides and to the snow, and this stroller had a bunch of attachments to allow us to do so. Ours have seen serious use and have held up.

Also, you might find one on craigslist or some other resource for used goods, as although our running strollers have been seriously used, there are plenty out there that are still in excellent condition.

Good luck!

I personally have never used a jogging stroller as they weren't out when my kids were young, but I have heard that the one where the front wheel moves is ALOT easier to maneuver. Good luck in the marathons!

Oh my goodness, the BOB is worth it's weight in GOLD! I have had the single AND double BOB revolution with the front swivel wheel, great for everyday activities and Stroller Strides, and then it locks out for distance runs and races! Great all around stroller! High resale value for whenever you are done with it too :)

I LOVE my BOB Revolution - front wheel is loose but can be locked in place. I pretty much never lock the front wheel. I love that I can steer one-handed both running and out and about - especially at the airport. (Hand check through security, bungee closed at the gate for gate check, throw all the gear in it while we're trekking around the airport, then have it to run/walk where ever we're going. Bliss.) With the wheel loose, it does occasionally skip, but I've gotten used to it and how to avoid it. (Try not to push down on the handle and lock it more when the baby weighs less and always when it's empty on my crazy-lady preschool pick up routine.) If you're fast, which I'm not, I think a fixed wheel might be better. Honestly, when this one's locked in it always drifts. Don't know how much the fixed-wheel ones do that or not. As for marathons - I've done training runs up to 10 miles with my daughter, but any thing longer I say get a daddy/sitter to take the kiddo and have some I'm-not-just-a-mom-I'm-a-woman time! Have fun out there.

By the way - don't know how old your baby is or if you're pregnant, but the BOB has an available carseat adapter for $50 that converts into a snack tray. Though we never converted it because my daughter loved to put her feet up on the bar and it was super cute. So I was out running at 6 weeks instead of waiting until l6 months. ABSOLUTE LIFE SAVER! We used to live in a very pedestrian area and this thing was used as much as my car.

Hi V.,

You will probably need two strollers for these two very different functions. Shopping requires a small, nimble, easy to maneuver stroller while jogging requires a bigger wheel base that you won't kick while running or walking fast.

I had a whole fleet of strollers when my kids were small. I still have them if you're in the Grapevine area and would like to take a look.

The best brand out there is suppose to be the "BOB" stroller, but it is almost $400! So, it depends on your budget, i couldn't afford that! So, we bought the "Baby trend" brand stroller at Babies r us. It was about $160, it does all the same things that a bob does! I use it to walk and go to the mall or where ever! The front wheel moves, and trust me, you want a wheel that moves otherwise you have to do a wheelie every time you turn the corner!!! Which gets old...
