Hey there,
My husband and I moved to Jax 4 yrs ago and we are still learning of places to go and things to do around here. We love to attend family events, right now we are waiting for the World of Nations event. Any websites to pass on would be appreciated. Also, I am working on getting in shape, so any fitness events would be awesome too. One day, I want to do a Marathon. I will also try searching google. Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

Hi--I live in Jacksonville, FL and there is SO MUCH going on--if you don't subscribe to the Times Union, you should (I do not work for them--but have been a 25+ yr. subscriber). Do you pick up FOLIO? Between the 2, you should know that there are so many things to choose from every weekend, you should not be sitting at home..EVER! Re: Marathons--Doug Alred at First Place Sports on Baymeadows is the local guru...if you missed the Donna Hicken & the Gate River Run, you can start training for the Jax/Outback Half Marathon on Thanksgiving day & the Jax Marathon which is about 2 wks later. The biggest drawback in Jax is the fact that the metro area covers really all of NE Florida (including St. Augustine & Fernandina). You may have to drive a little--but St. Augustine is a great Saturday trip. Have you been to Fernandina & Ft. Clinch? Have you been to Ft. Caroline? (yes there is an actual Ft. Caroline). Have you been to Metropolitan Park when it's warm (and the water is on?). Have you been to the Cummer Gallery--they have children's events. Likewise, MOSH (the Museum of Science & History) always has special things for kids. Have you been to the Planetarium yet????? Have you walked the riverwalk? Have you taken a tour of the Peterbrooke factory in San Marco? Have you been to the Zoo (it's wonderful!!!!). There's no reason you should be sitting at home on Saturdays wondering what to do! This is such a great place! Enjoy!
Suzi (my kids are 14 & 19....19 yo is at FSU/14 yo has her own things to do...you'd better get busy...in a few years, they won't want to be seen with you!) Oh--did I mention that the Symphony has a Children's program too..that includes a lot of "extra" activities like an "instrument zoo" and crafty things before the performances....the JCA & the Y have lots of kids activities going on.....

Hi there,

I just noticed someone suggesting the same website, jax4kids.com... you might also want to check out your local library...on tuesday nights, the Cummer museum is free... there's also ice skating/regular skating rinks... and of course, the zoo.

Oh, I just remembered this site too... http://www.coj.net/Departments/Recreation+and+Community+S...

And if you live by the westside, Cecil Field recreational center have programs from water pilates to float 'n flick (movies while on a float) Pools r always free for the public
