Hi Cera, Since your son is only two weeks old, you will be going to a check up very soon, I would bring it up to the MD for sure. Most offfices have a nurse that can take these questions over the phone and consult with the Pediatrician and tell you to come in sooner than the next check up. Call your Ped and talk to the nursing staff. Peace of mind. congrats on your son! Deb

Hello, Anytime you are concerned about your baby you should ask his doctor. There is no such thing as being too concerned. It is good that you are so aware of his little body and noticed this lump. It will probably be nothing, but best to check. It could be glan and maybe he has had a cold or something which may have caused it to be enlarged.
Good luck with your precious little baby.

I took my older daughter to the doctor for the same thing when she was a couple of weeks old. They said it was completely normal and something like it is from your hormones that are still left in his body and will go away on its own in a couple of weeks to months.

Hi Cera,

My daughter had the same thing when she was just about the same age. I took her to the doctor and found out that it was just a little fatty tissue. It went away after a few weeks. It might be a good idea to take him to the doctor, though, just for your peace of mind.

Good luck on your new baby boy!

Sincerely,
L.

Almost all babies (including boys) lactate after birth for several weeks. Most people just don't know this happens. I bet if you really (gently) squeezed his breast, milk drops would come out. As with all breast milk it is supply and demand. Just leave the breast alone (after you discover if it is infact milk creating the lump) and it will go away. When the babies are born, the hormones that cause US to lactate are in them too. It seems odd, but, all humans have mamory glands and can produce milk. Don't be scared!

You should have it checked out. No need to panic but have it looked at by the Dr. I know you're concerned (you're a mom!) but being scared doesn't help, getting it checked out might. It most likely isn't anything but have your little love looked at and put your mind at ease.

It is totally normal. I freaked out when my son developed one, but the pediatrician said it was the extra hormones during pregnancy working their way out of his system (or something to that effect). His lump very quickly disappeared and we never had a problem.

I would definitely have it checked. My girlfriend discovered a lump on her 3 day old baby and it turned out to be a staph infection. Get it chesked ASAP. I don't mean to scare you but better to be safe than sorry!

I wouldn't worry about it; my son Elijah had the same thing and his pediatrician explained that it was a build up of estrogen in his system from me and would disappear as he got older and, sure enough, it did. My son is now 28 months and the lumps are gone; they've been gone for a long time. When Elijah had the lumps, they didn't bother him either. If you're still not comfortable, take your son to his pediatrician and have his doctor comfirm there's nothing to worry about. Good luck!!
