My daughter is turning 7 this month and I wondering about some good party and food ideas. I plan on having it at home because I cannot transport kids. In the past we have set up pools in my yard but she is getting kind of old for that now. We are planning for about 5-8 kids (besides my 4) I am not able to spend a whole lot of money, but I would like to do something different and fun! I was thinking of letting her have 1-2 friends spend the night although I don't know if it would be rude not to let all the kids stay...that's ALOT of kids though!! If anybody has any suggestions that would be great! Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I just had my daughter's 7th birthday party as well this past November. I had used Familyfun.com as mentioned but the other web site I use all the time for birthdays and games is called partygamecentral.com. They have tons of games for all different occasions. For party favors, I love using Target's Dollar spot when they are marked on clearance. I pick up things there for a quarter and use them for party favors or little gifts for my kids for special occasions. Good luck!!

Go to the thrift store, pick up some old hats and shawls and dress up clothes and have a tea party. Buy a few $1 tea pots at the dollar store and have various "teas" like pop, ginger ale, lemonade instead of hot tea. Serve little cakes and sandwiches and play some tea party games.

I have not read any of other peoples ideas so sorry if I repeat- but what about a movie- some days at 10:00am the theaters have a 2:50 movie for kids- or at night like in grundy they have dollar movies- if you wanted to make it a fun night thing- Otherwise I think the girls spending the night and maybe you could go to the dollar store and get finger nail polish hair spray and make up if want and have a beauthy party for them- Just some fun ideas that are not very expensive-
Have fun!

L.,
I'm hooked. I just found www.birthdaypartyideas.com
It's loaded with themes/ideas alphabetically and noted by age/sex of child. Parents write in with what they did and how it worked out. We are doing a Backwards Party for a soon to be 7 year old and although we have only sent out the Thank You's (aka invites) we have gotten great feedback already! My son can't wait to figure out which backwards games we will play! Check it out!

My daughter turned 7 in February. We had a makeover sleepover. It was so much fun making the girls looks glamorous! Hailey had 7 little girls stay the night. I had my sister come over and help do makeup, hair and fingernails. When we were done with the makeovers I put on music and let them dance and play and then we sat and watched movies with the girls. It wasn't as hectic as I thought it would be. They had so much fun that everytime I see one of the girls they ask me when I'm going to have another makeover party. For food ideas: Cheese and crackers, fruits, pizza(when the parents RSVP I always ask what kind of pizza their child likes), cookies, a cake or cupcakes (for her birthday), popcorn (for the movies), juice or pop, and candy (for the movies). I hope this helps you out. Hailey and her friends had so much fun and it was so fun watching them and listening to them. Movie ideas: Highschool Musical, Cheetah Girls, Hairspray, etc...
Music: Hannah Montana, Highschool Music soundtrack, Disney kids

My daughter was invited to "Almost Slumber Party" this year. Each parent brought their own daughter around 5:30 or so. They each made a mini-pizza, played some games, probably danced, watched a movie, etc. Each girl brought a sleeping bag, pillow, and pj's. Then, all the parents picked their daughters up around 9:30. It also gives the other parents a chance to spend time with their other children or to have a date night.

L., it may sound insane, but we just had our dd's 7th bday party and had 10 girls spend the night! She wanted a slumber party, so we did it. We decided to invite everyone to spend the night, otherwise it would be too rude/hurtful to the ones not asked. I assumed most of them would not stay over, but all but one did! We made the invitations and put 2 ending times - one if they were not spending the night and one if they were spending the night. Again, only one did not stay over. It went MUCH better than I expected. I would do it again in a second, really! My dd said it was the best party ever and she wants to do it again next year. It was reasonably cheap, compared to other parties, and it is really up to you what you spend. We played outside a lot, did do the wading pool and sprinkler, we had crafts inside, they ate dinner, did make overs, danced, watched a movie, and everyone slept in sleeping bags in the family room. It worked out great. We got some cute, cheap crafts at www.orientaltrading.com and the best bet, by far, was the autograph pillows each of the girls got. It was a blast! All the girls had a super time, my dd did, and I did. :)

What does your daughter want to do? Does she want a party?

If she does, then a spa theme is popular (glitter nal polish and homemade masks) or a sports theme with relay races is fun, especially with the olympics just around the corner. If your daughter is the class clown than a Backwards theme can be entertaining for all!

I would do one or the other: a party or a sleep over. Both is a bit much.

Buy the small individual pizza crusts (I believe Boboli makes them) and have them top their own pizzas, before you bake them.

Another idea (I think already mentioned) is to bake a bunch of cupcakes ahead of time, then have the kids frost and decorate them. This is food+activity, all rolled into one!

There's nothing wrong with just renting a family-friendly movie and have everyone sit in the a.c. and watch it.

Lastly, kids sleeping over has to be all-or-nothing. You will be opening a can of worms if some of the kids are invited to sleep over, while others are not. (The exception would be if your daughter has boy friends coming over. To send all the boys home, and let the girls spend the night, would be OK.)

I believe the website is birthday express - you can order themed party decorations/games & it ships pretty quickly. I got High School Musical for my daughter with pin the tail and we hooked up a little kareoke machine - the kids had a blast with that. Then water balloons. All the kids had a blast! We did have 1 girl spend the night - I don't know that the other kids even noticed - she showed up first and we put her overnight bag in the closet so it wasn't obvious..... Good Luck!

Check out FamilyFun.com. I have gotten great inexpensive party ideas there. All kinds of themes to choose from, fun creative decorations and games, food you name it! My daughter's best party was a pasta party. The girls made and decorated their own chef hats, created their own pasta dishe and just loved it! It was cheap and memorable! I am sure there will be some fun summer ideas.
As for the few sleeping ver...I wouldn't only because I know how it feels to be the one not invited to stay. Plus, at 7 a couple hours of excitement is just enough! If a sleepover is something you want to do...either invite the 1-2 friends and make that the party or invite them all! For me...the party would be enough for one day...sleepover anther time.
Have fun!

At this age they are wanting to be grown up some but still so young. You can make it a theme party like the 50's sock hop or you could make it an around the world party where you have dishes from different countries and everyone dresses up like someone from a different country. I was a girl scout leader for this age group and they are pretty simple to keep happy. Games, crafts and cooking were always the popular things to do in the meetings. You could even do a little "camp out" where you pitch a couple tents and have ghost stories around the back yard fire pit, make s'mores and sing camp songs. Then the girls who stay the night can even sleep out in the tents.

When our daughter turned 8, we had a Dress Up party!!! Have a helper and then do all the girls hair, nairs and ALITTLE make up. Then have a fashion show! HAve the girls bring an outfit to show. Some fun activities to do with that is to get those foam crowns at a craft store, about #1 each, some fun things to glue on , and they can wear those during their "Show".

A good place to look is at FamilyFun.com. They have alot of fun activities to do in the summer that can easily work for parties!

Have fun!!!

For my daughters birthday we made fabric decorated flip flops. I called the parents to see what size of cheap filp flops the child wears and went a bought everyone sandals. Then I got a couple yards of fun fabric and cut them in strips, long enough so the girls could tie them on the shoes. then around the sides of the flops we did design like dots. This way it is there activity at the party and there party favor. Hope this helps.
HTe girls at the birthday party for my daughter LOVED these!

My daughters both LOVED this idea. We had a backwards party. I used construction paper and made invitations so that I could write everything backwards (I spelled the words backwards and the letters so that you could hold it to a mirror and read it). Everyone was to wear things backwards and there was a small prize for the most things backwards (inside out and backwards counts for 2 points). Girls wore there ponytails on the FRONT of their head, wore earrings backwards, clothes, etc. The cake was the easiest cake I ever made. I backed a cake and frosted it, it didn't matter how well the frosting looked because I put it upside down on the serving plate and had the unfrosted bottom showing. I stuck the candles in the sides of the cake. Everyone that came loved it. We had all the girls spend the night so we made PJs to wear for the night. I bought adult plain t-shirts from Hobby Lobby and some paint fabric pens and lined the inside of the shirts with brown paper grocery sacks and let them make their own PJs. We just played games and watched movies all night. One game I made up because the girls were getting restless was to give them each a piece of paper and let them draw another girl in the party without letting anyone know who you were drawing and then everyone guessed who you drew in the end.

Good Luck with your party!

We did a Libby Lu type party doing their nails, hair w/ glitter spray, and make up. We served fancier tea party type desserts instead of traditional cake and if you're doing lunch little finger sandwiches and hors d'oerves.

Last August we did a outdoor/backyard party for my 6year old daughter. I had a inflatable slip in slide it's bigger/better than a regular slide. You can rent them, buy them etc...

We had waterballoon toss, and various fun games outside, we barbequed let the girls run around.

We did invited every girl to spend the night I think that was 8 or 9 girls at the time but only half wanted to.Some parents didn't feel comfortable with the idea.So we had pick up your child at 8pm or pick them up the following morning at 11am. So I think we had maybe 4 girls spend the night it was really not that hard. They didn't bother me at all they played upstairs all night.

I thought that would be our cheapest route having a party like that but I soon found out it wasn't. Supplies, food, and treat bags ran me over a $150.00 easily

This August my daughter will be 7 and were thinking more along the lines of a bowling party or taking 1-2 friends out for a girls days. Shopping, lunch something like that.

My daughter is turning 8 soon. For her birthday party last year we had a hollywood theme. I bought a red carpet at Factory Card Outlet and we had her friends dress up fancy. We took all of their pictures on the red carpet. I had them decorate autograph books that I made and then they each autographed their books. It took a long time! We also bought clay and had them put their hand prints in it like on the walk of fame. For her cake my sister decorated the cake with a star and put her name in the middle. We also played a game where they have a name of a movie character on their backs and they have to ask their friends questions to guess who they are. The party was a big hit with all of them.

Another fun one that requires less work was the year before we have a cookie decorating party. They each had an apron you could have them decorate it at the party or put each name on before they arrive. I made sugar cookies and about 6 different colors of frosting. (that I made with food coloring) They each saved a cookie that they decorated to have with milk instead of also having a cake. I thought that would be sugar overload. I went to Sweet Celebrations and bought neat sprinkles for them to add on and small boxes like you would get at a bakery for them to take their cookies home. It got a little messy, but I bought a plastic table cloth and just rolled it up and threw it away when the party was over.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Hi L.! I just have one suggestion, and it's good all the way through the teens! Make or buy either a sheet cake or cupcakes and also buy all kinds of cake decorating stuff -- tubes of different colored frosting, sprills, M&Ms or Reeses Pieces, CANDLES, etc. Then put the kids around a table where a sticky floor won't be the end of the world and tell them to start decorating! For younger kids cupcakes seem to work better and each child gets her own candle to blow out. Have fun!

My daughter has always loved crafts and enjoyed sharing that love with her friends(even the ones who didn't really like to do crafts did so at her parties because it was an activity offered). We have always had the same types of games most we made up and they knew she would play them each year.

We have a sign in book for everyone to sign and jot a birthday wish in.

We put numbers under their chairs for them to pull off and pick a small wrapped prize many trades happen until everyone is sure they like their prize and then everyone opens them.

We fill a kid size water bottle with m&m's and have everyone guess how many are in it. The one closest get the bottle of m&m's.

We give everyone a plain bag to decorate with stickers and markers.

We pick easy crafts for them to make and then they can take everything home in the bag they decorated.

They draw on the driveway with sidewalk chalk and this year they made a really long hop scotch game!

They played DDR and other video games.

They love the oreo lick off! Many couldn't resist eating the cookie before the icing was gone.

We have played musical chairs, hola hoop contests, jump rope contests, relay races, bean bag toss and water ballon toss. It has been based on our party location which games we have played over the years.

I think your daughter is going to have fun with any of these games. I have always allowed my daughter to invite a few girls to sleep over and it was just kept between them. Everyone knows you can't possibly have all the girls sleep over. I would just make sure the sleep over guests are aware that everyone can't sleep over this time and it wouldn't be nice to point it out to those who couldn't stay this time.

I think your daughter will just enjoy having her family and friends around to celebrate her day!

We just went to a party with water balloons and they were a huge hit. My kids all said they even liked them better than the inflatable bouncy room that was rented. And water balloons are as cheap as entertainment gets. Setting up a sprinkler for them to run through is fun, too. I picked up a slip and slide on clearence the other day at Toys-R-Us for $4.99 or you could use a roll of plastic lining from the hardware store. (That's what I used as a kid.) Just keep moving it around for the sake of the grass.

I used to be a day camp counselor for kids this age and one of their favorite games was water duck duck goose. Instead of using your hand to tap heads, you carry a large, fully saturated sponge to drip over heads. When you get to goose, you squeeze. The "mush pot" in the middle is a baby pool of water. There are lots of traditional games that can be altered to fit water.

Have fun,
S.

When my daughter turned 7, we had a 70's themed birthday party...the kids and adults alike had a lot of fun with this! I went to walmart and picked up a 70's disco cd set for 4.88 and bought a disco ball at kohls for 10.00. The kids were told to dress accordingly. All of the food served was food popular or originated in the 70's...we had fluffernutter sandwiches (peanut butter & marshmallow creme), cheetos, for the cake I just made two round cakes and layered them, frosted them with yellow frosting and used to oreo cookies as eyes and decorating frosting to make a smiley face. I drew a full size person with an afro and bell bottom pants, cut out face and took a picture of each child behind it, so we made gaudy "groovy" frames for the kids to take home. I also sent home goody bags with various candy from the 70's. We did end up having a sleep over, so for breakfast we ate...70's cereal...Count Chocula, Franken Berry... We all had a blast and everyone still talks about it - my daughter is now 9 1/2!
