Hey Mommas,
My midwife has recommened a doula to me who is finishing her training and offering her services for a donation as a result. We definately will want to give her something but we're wondering what the going rate is? Thanks much!
blessings,
J.

most newer doulas don't ask for payment,(they are happy to get the experience) but anywhere from $100-$300 is the beginning of the scale,

When I was starting out I had about 6 births under my belt and charged between 300 and 500. (sliding scale) and now with over 230 births I charge 800.

I hope this helps!

We paid $1000 for our doula, but she had 15+ years of experience, and was also an RN and was able to check me at our home before going to the hospital. She also came to our house after the birth for lactation support. Good luck!

I agree with Abi. Most doulas who are still in training need the experience in order to get their certification so they willling volunteer their time so don't worry about it. But even if you just get her a gift card from Target or Borders (to buy books needed for their doula "career") is just as good as cash. Don't worry about it - believe me, I'm a doula in training and I would be honored if someone allowed me to help them during their L&D!!

I was at a baby shower yesterday and it happened to come up. My friend is giving birth at Prentice and her experienced doula is charging $800.
