How long do you wait to take a pregnancy test? I find myself being late every month but never pg. I am sick of spending $15 on tests that come back neg. I find myself being scared that I am pregnant and also scared that I am not. I just need to know that I am not alone in this feeling.

What can I do next?

I have SO been there, done that! I have irregular cycles, and my husband and I tried for almost 2 *years* before we got pregnant with our first. After about 8 months of me running out every month and getting another pg test, I decided to wait until I was 30 days late before I bothered with a pregnancy test. That got rid of about 99% of the false alarms.
The feeling of constant wonder and desire to know is pretty strong - I know I felt it every month!

You are not alone, LOL. Just try to relax. Even if you was preg knowing at week 4 you still have a long wait, most dr's don't want to see you until you are 2-3 months preg anyway. Here a lot of dr's have you get blood work done to confirm the preg before they will see you anyway.

Hi Cia - I am probably not the right person to answer this one... but...

This was my plan: I took the tests on the day of my missed cycle. If it was negative, but still no cycle, then I waited two more days and did another test. Most of the time I would get my cycle before the 2nd test. Except for the three times I have been pregnant.

I had infertility issues and could only get pregnant while taking Clomid a drug that boosts ovulation. So often the plan above was overlooked and I would take multiple tests on the same day, all negative! It became an obsession for me at some points when we were trying to conceive.

I was always so sad when the tests were negative. I would cry, and be so depressed. I wasted hundreds of $'s on those negative tests. The three positive tests made me cry tears of joy.

From your question, it sounded like you were unsure whether you wanted another child or not? I hope you get your hearts true desire.

Good Luck

Hello there Cia,

My cycle runs more like 33 days instead of 28. Maybe you should keep track of your cycles. If you are consistently having a 35 day cylce (or whatever yours is) then you technically aren't "late" for you. Does that make sense? :) Then you can know not to take the prego test until after you are actually late beyond your norm.

Good luck!

I know that whenever I was late and started worrying about being pregnant, it would come even later. Stress can make it late. I don't know if it's the same in your case, but maybe just try to relax and not think about it (easier said than done, I know).

Have you been tracking your periods? Cycles tend to change, they aren't always what they used to be. I'm no expert, but that's what I've heard. If you're consistently the same number of days late (or close to it), maybe that is just normal for you. Tracking is always a good idea in case your doctor wants to see the pattern.

A few years before my first son was born, I skipped a period. I went to my doctor for some tests and they said my hormone levels were off due to my recent weight loss (I had been dieting early that year). My cycle was so irregular for about a year, but one month it just felt different so I decided to take a test and sure enough I was pregnant.

I guess I'm saying it could be any number of reasons. But if you are really worried, try talking to your doctor. Good luck!

You sound like me.. I usely wait a week before I get one.. I did find that if you go the dollar store you can get pregnancy tests there. I rather pay a dollar instead of $15.00. Hope this helps and good luck.

I would start charting your cycles. That way you would know when you ovulate and would stop wasting your money on tests.
