How Do You Get Out Mold!!

I am getting out our baby items for our new little one arriving soon, and when I pulled our infant carseat out of storage the straps and seat fabric had mold on it from the moisture in the basement. I have washed it twice in hot water and sprayed it with some cleaner, but I know mold can hide and you don't always see it. I don't want to use it if something can still be in it and harm the baby. Does anyone know of anything to get mold out of fabric items or do we just need to get another one? Thanks for your help.

What can I do next?

You really shouldn't use it. If u put a "brand new set of lungs" in that seat and that baby has any reaction to that mold, it can be a disaster. They are too susceptible to those hidden things out there in the world. Mold can do some pretty good damage to a set of lungs before you even know it.

Hi A.,
Congratulations on your 2nd baby. When I wanted to use the old carseat from my first child for my 2nd I called the company and ordered a new cover for it to have a clean one and to also have a different pattern. I would think that you could order the straps if they can be re-threaded and that would make it safer. Mold is tricky and if they can't be replaced then I would unfortunately throw it out. I wouldn't trust that the mold hadn't settled within the car seat.

Good Luck,
E. C

try 1 part bleach to 2 parts water and if that does not work I would toss. Mold can cause resp troubles.

I'd use a bleach solution. 1T bleach to 1 to 2c water. Mold just vanishes when bleach comes in contact with it. On a light surface it is pretty neat to watch (I need to get out more).

I have used Oxy Clean. My daughters shirt had some black mold spots on it from being left damp in the basement. I soaked the shirt in Oxy Clean and water solution for 6 hours. It still had a few spots so I rinsed it out and soaked it for six more hours, in a fresh mix of the cleaner. It came out good as new. Good luck.

I've read that white vinegar kills mold. I can't vouch for that, but I've read that. Good luck!

Order new cover and straps, or buy a new carseat. Don't risk your new baby's breathing. Mold can be very very dangerous.
